George W. Bush's lost year in Alabama

Recommended Posts

Seems like Bush didn't make that great of an impression. Especially on people like Blount's son.

Some of the interesting quotes from the article

Referred to as George Bush, Jr. by newspapers in those days, sources say he also tended to show up late every day, around noon or one, at Blount's campaign headquarters in Montgomery. They say Bush would prop his cowboy boots on a desk and brag about how much he drank the night before.

During this period Bush often socialized with the young ladies of Huntington College, located in the Old Cloverdale historic neighborhood where he stayed. Bush even dated Nixon's daughter Tricia in the early 1970s, according to newspaper accounts.

Many of those who came into close contact with Bush say he liked to drink beer and Jim Beam whiskey, and to eat fist-fulls of peanuts, and Executive burgers, at the Cloverdale Grill.

"He was an attractive person, kind of a 'frat boy,'" Blount said. "I didn't like him."

He remembers thinking to himself, "This guy thinks he is such a cuntsman, God's gift to women," he said. "He was all duded up in his cowboy boots. It was sort of annoying seeing all these people who thought they were hot shit just because they were from Texas."

he was assigned to train as a pilot on the F-102 Delta Dagger, a plane the military had schedule for the scrap heap

There's points where the article skews a bit.. although it doesn't side with the Moore POV of Bush being a deserter.

It's an interesting article. The stuff about Bush and busing and Sparkman is another subpoint on this. About dirty tricks and playing to the more racist parts of the state.

What's a cuntsman anyways? some Alabama term or something?

Perhaps, but the meaning appears to be self-evident, no?

Anyway, we all know Bush did his share of drinking in his younger days. Whoopee.

I live in Alabama and have NEVER heard the term "cuntsman."

But, as mentioned above, it's pretty obvious what it means.

Oh man that is so becoming part of my regular vocabulary.

Perhaps the compliment to scrumtrulescent.

"It was sort of annoying seeing all these people who thought they were hot shit just because they were from Texas."

Um... no. Wow, they truly do live in their own world where the rest of the United States actually doesn't propogate the texan stereotype of ignorant tough-feeling hicks.

Honestly, same thing can be said of New Yorkers.

Or Bostonites, to be honest.

Or people from Philly.

I must say, the term I've always heard is "cocksman". The meaning is pretty much the same.

The people are like this everywhere....shit, the local Wisconsin hillbillies think theyre hotshit just cuz theyre 'cool' in the 'Sconsin Hills. People carry their localness everywhere, its just a fact of life. Texas, Boston, Cali, New Yawk, Minnesota, Wyoming, etc etc etc. Who gives a shit if he acted like a wanker back in the day? Im sure John Kerry and Howard Dean and Al Gore and on and on and on all acted pompous during their college days just like George Bush. The only exception to this might be a Bill Clinton whose meager youth may have made a bit more humble during his college years. Just my opnion on that though, I really have no idea, I just think his boorishness came later with his political successes.

Honestly, I assume success simply allows you to truly show your demeanor.

Success doesn't make people jerks. They were jerks before.

Well I'm sure those good ol' boys would have liked it SO much better if W. went out socializing with men.

Not that there's anything wrong with that mind you...

Get on the ball, Mike.

We're Bostonians.

Thank you.
