Guest glennsoe Report post Posted February 13, 2004 This guys must be able to "see into the future" !!! If you all remember back in August 9th of 1999 when Chris Jericho appeared for the first time in the then called wwf and he gave a pretty good promo on Raw ! This is in parts of what he said, and this is where it gets interesting; * "Now let's go over the fact's - Television Ratings; DOWNWARD SPIRAL - Pay-Per-View buy Rates; PLUMMETING - Mainstream Acceptance; NON-EXISTENT - Reaction From The Live Crowd; COMPLETE AND UTTER SILENCE As i said, this is a coulpe of things he said in that AWESOME promo, and boy did he ever hit the nail right on the head ?? - Glenn -

KTID 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2004 Incase anyone happens to be interested: "What was once a captivating, trend-setting programme has deteriorated into a cliched - and let's be honest - boring snoozefest that is in dire need of a knight in shining armour. Let's go over the facts. Television ratings: downward spiral. Pay-Per-View buy rates: plummeting. Mainstream acceptance: nonexistent. Reactions of the live crowd: complete and utter silence (due to) the steady stream of uninteresting, untalented, mediocre sports entertainers." - Chris Jericho is about two-and-a-half years early on his evaluation, Raw, August 1999. razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2004 It is indeed the end of sports entertainment as we know it as this crazy canadian virii will destroy everything in its path. Run to the stores people and stock up on your WWF & WCW videos before it disappears. THE SKY IS FALLING AND HELL HAS FROZEN OVER.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 13, 2004 I think you're dismissing this thread way too easily. I think the original poster's intentions were to show that history is indeed repeating itself. Back then we were all sick and tired of seeing Austin/Taker all the time, they had become stale. Now its Triple-H who has turned(not is turning) the promotion stale with his unwillingness to waiver and drop the title to somebody who isn't named Shawn Michaels or Goldberg(and that title drop was just so he could honeymoon). So basically who's going to be their new Knight in Shining Armour? Personally I'd love to see Raw start giving the ball to Jericho, Benoit, Christian, and Hardy because I do believe they can run with it.

King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2004 As i said, this is a coulpe of things he said in that AWESOME promo, and boy did he ever hit the nail right on the head ?? Can we rename this thread OMG I'VE ONLY JUST REALISED SOMETHING !!!! Things have been this way for a few years on and off. Hell, like RVDMARK's post says, this was first brought up in about 2002...probably before. As for Jericho...what nationality are his parents, because that counts towards his nationality. His nation of birth doesn't have to be the one he's recognised by.

If you were to ask AS, then Jericho is American, but anyone with any sense knows he's Canadian. Well, technically, Jericho was born in New York. and a number of America's founding fathers were born in Britain. As far as the next "knight in shining armour" for the WWE...it won't be Christain unless he bulks up more, Matt I can see as a upper carder on Raw but not a major player. Honestly Edge, Brock, Orton, Cena are the WWE's future like it or not.

Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted February 13, 2004 Doesn't mean I like Orton but he's going to be pushed as a top flight star wether Smarks like it or not. I don't like the guy much myself but I think that most Smarks are far too hard on the guy. Yes he's being pushed too far too fast. But I don't have any major problems with him. He needs some polishing on his in-ring skills and acting of course.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 13, 2004 I think one thing that was unjustly done was everybody ignored the match he and RVD had where Orton was basically doing the match with a mild concussion. If you've seen the Cactus Jack/Sandman Texas Death Match where Sandman gets a concussion early on you'll gain alot more respect for what Orton was able to do in that match. Although the finish kinda sucked, it was still one of the better matches in past weeks.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Doesn't mean I like Orton but he's going to be pushed as a top flight star wether Smarks like it or not. Being pushed towards a top position and reaching it are two different things. Gunn--never could pull it off. Luger--nope. That's what Orton is right now, as far as I'm concerned. WHAT does he have that sets him apart from anyone else on the roster? WWE tried it with lots of guys, but if the audience says "WE DON'T GIVE A DAMN" they can try and try and try until they accept that some guys just ain't got "it." He needs some polishing on his in-ring skills and acting of course. So, he has what? "The look?"
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 14, 2004 SOH cant act or work a fucking match and has a MUCH better look...Why didn't he get the Orton Push then? Oh yeah, Orton wears Kneepads.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 14, 2004 Actually Luger's push did work. My parents took me to Boston to see him in his MEGA-BUS for the Luger Express tour and I'll tell ya the area was packed. They had to block off streets...closest I got to him was like 7-8 rows back and he looked every kid in the eye when doing the pan over wave to make you feel apart of what was happening. Back then he was over like mo'fucka'

Raw's ratings were plenty high while Nitro's were quite on the low end of the pole. That's the genius of it.
