You never know.....I'm sorry, I didn't know how to finish this statement where it looks positive.

I think Simon is a great off the bench left handed bat and Mondesi used to be good.

At least they have a guy who wears a huge cross around his neck. You'll win in that catergory!

Well if you aren't impressed by this I heard they are bringing back ORLANDO MERCED!! I think I heard they're supposed to sign Ugeth Urbina too. At least they have a plan they've followed the last 2 years where they sign guys who were good about 5 years ago. It actually worked a lot better than it should have last year.

Was Simon traded to the Cubs last year?...

Yes, shortly after hitting the sexy sausage chick with the bat

I'm with Michael Wilbon, he should have hit them harder.

Simon was only on a one year deal and when they signed Lee from the Marlins, they had no use for Simon or Karros. I think they should have kept one as a safety net in case of injury but maybe they have some other youngster waiting for a shot.

The Marlins got a steal with Choi I think. He needed to be dealt though cause he just wasn't advancing as a Cub.

During one of the "sausage races" (basically, people dressed as sausages running around the infield), Simon reached over with his bat and tapped one of the sausages, who fell on their ass.

Simon was made to look criminal by some, while some of us laughed and thanked everything that ONE player in baseball had taste and wanted to end the stupidity.

Michael Wilbon and I agreed "Should have whacked them harder with the bat"

I won't ask why people dress up as Sausages.

Yes, I am from Pittsburgh.

Me, too.

We outta hang out at PNC Park and watch our "competitive" team.

Ah, I know. They are gonna be sooo "competitive" this year. There won't be a hotter race in MLB this year than the Pirates fighting ahead to gain sole possession of LAST FUCKING PLACE!!!!!!

Nah it'll be the Brewers trust me on that one. In fact I'm willing to bet.....come on do you really think I was gonna bet on last place in the NL Central.

Give me $15 on Milwaukee

They'll both be traded at the deadline for prospects.

I would not be surprised. When are some of those prospects from the last few years going to start showing up?

As for last place in the Central do not count out the Reds. You know the Astros and the Cubs will make the playoffs this year, they have the Reds, Brewers, and Pirates to beat up on every other week.

Bullshit. The Reds have a great lineup (possibly as good as the Cards) and a great bullpen (better than the Cards). The pitching stuff has alot of questions, but when Acevedo, Lidle and Claussen is healthy, they can all be very good. The Reds will only be in last place if last year happens again, meaning ... a 3rd of the lineup and the whole pitching staff goes on the DL - yes, you heard me - about 90% of the rotation went on the DL last year, and about 80% of the lineup did. The Reds are a MUCH better team than the Brewers and Pirates, and don't be surprised to see them finish above the Cardinals, but hey - the lower the expectations, the better it'll feel.

You'll have a SS/2B this year by the name of Freddy Sanchez who can hit over .300

I still hate that trade

Who is great in the Reds lineup?

I have given up on Junior, Adam Dunn has been in a two year slump, they said in the paper today that Austin Kearns still is not healthy, Sean Casey is a .300 hitter but you will be lucky to get double digit home runs, Larson cannot hit at the major league level, Jimenez was good last year and hopefully he will keep it up, Willy Mo impressed me but he will not get playing time, Olmedo and Castro are better with the glove than the bat, Larue is decent, and Larkin is washed up.

The bullpen is solid. Haynes and Wilson are garbage, Claussen and Acevedo could be good but have not done it on a consisten basis yet. Lidle was a very good pickup though.

That's funny -- Simon got traded, couldn't find anyone else to go to, and went back to the Pirates, probably to get traded later in the season.

I heard a pitcher the Pirates traded to the BoSox might return -- I forget the guy's name, but it was the starter, not the middle reliever.

Oh, and has Kendall been traded yet?...

Kendall had a surprisingly good year last year(.325/.399/.416/.815) however considering he'll be making $7.5 Mill this year and increasing to $9.5 next year, I don't think that any team would be willing to take him just because the salary is so much and do you mean Jeff Suppan?

If you've given up on Jr, then sad to you. Whatever.

Junior is still a great hitter and is healthy. He can still knock 40 HR. Adam Dunn has the power to hit 50 and is healthy, he's been working with the new batting coach, and you can surely expect him to put up big power numbers. Austin Kearns is 100% healthy, so I dont know where you got your little info from, but the last report was that he is fully ready for the season and is now at Spring Training. That came right out of the GM's mouth in a chat. He can hit .300 and hit 30 HR. Sean Casey, who is also fully healed (hes been hurt the last 2 years) can hit .300 and hit 15-20 hr, yes .. he does have that power. His shoulder has been giving him trouble the last 2 years, and has caused him to dramaticly decrease his numbers. LaRue is coming into his own, and has power to also hit 15-20, but his overall average is a question. Jimenez came close to winning the MVP in the fall league, and you can expect him to have a breakout year. Larkin can still hit, but that is if he can stay healthy. Larson is a question. He KILLS the ball in Triple A, but he hasnt proved anything on the major league level yet, hes been given one more chance though. All the Reds scouts say when he learns to make contact in the bigs, he can hit 30 HR.

01. Jimenez, 2B

02. Larkin, SS

03. Griffey, CF

04. Kearns, RF

05. Dunn, LF

06. Casey, 1B

07. LaRue, C

08. Larson, 3B

I'm sorry if you don't see it, but that is a great lineup when they are all healthy. Kearns, Griffey, Casey and even Dunn has all been hurt for the last 2 years.

Rotation wise, Paul Wilson is a fine #4 on many teams. He had one of his better seasons last year coming back from injury. Not sure what to expect from him, but he was a good spark last year and is a solid vetern pitcher. No worse than the 3 guys in the Cards rotation after Morris and washed up Woody Williams (he had an awful 2nd half - expect that to flow into this year). Cory Lidle, like you said, was a very good pickup and is a good pitcher. Claussen has all the potential in the world, and so does Acevedo, who gets very little coverage and love. He was GREAT last year. Jimmy Haynes stinks, and should be released - yeah. Aaron Harang, we don't know yet. He came into camp yesterday much thinner than he was. He teamed up with Jacque Jones, to name just one this off season and got himself into much better shape. Maybe that'll help him.

Bullpen is filthy with Wagner, Reitsma and Reidling. Those guys have nasty stuff.

I've said much of this already in another thread, but when it comes to stating the facts and defending my team, I'll do it over and over.

I'm not wearing blinders, and I'm not a fair weather fan. I've watched this team since the early 90s grow and become almost dismantled. The ownership here in Cincy is AWFUL and cheap, but I do know the core of guys we have right now is very solid, and I can EASILY state that we will not finish last, and we will certainly give the Cardinals a fight for 3rd place.

After that, who knows.

Wow, nice cheap shot there kid. I didn't know you were so in love with Suppan.

If you are replying to KK's post, then quote him so the confusion is avoided.

How do you figure I care about Jeff Suppan? He's a horrid pitcher

Then there is no reason to get all upset and take a cheap shot at me since we agree he sucks. I don't understand you.

It was a misunderstanding. If you are gonna reply to a person about 4 posts above, then quote him so nobody gets confused.
