The Eddy-Brock segment from Smackdown gained a whopping 746,000 viewers, by far the highest gain on the show. Lesnar's interviews used to get minimal gains, but with Eddy, they're doing huge ratings. Eddy is safe as can be.

Hopefully, Vince's love of ratings outways his hatred of small wrestlers. :)

GO EDDIE~!

This is Vince McMahon we're talking about here.

Brock has improved a lot on the mic - but with Eddie in a segment, he can't go wrong.

It wasn't Eddy, you fools, it was the mariachi band bringing in the ratings! Push them, team them with Hardcore Holly to beat the crap out of that Mexican guy.

I'm still skeptical... ratings will not mean a thing compared to ppv buyrates... if no way out comes back with a good buyrate, then Eddies push is safe... but if it comes in low, I give him no more than a few months with the belt

Actually, the 750,000 viewers gained was for the first Brock/Eddy long interview 2 weeks ago, not the one last week. Let's see how this week's did. If it did similar, the buyrate for No Way Out may end up better than expected.

I don't think that this No Way Out PPV should be taken into huge consideration when it comes to Eddie's drawing power. There wasn't really anything else of note on the card, and I'm not sure how many people would buy a PPV for just one match alone.

yeah but thats really nothing new... look at most of the ppv's during the late 90's where pretty much everything revolves around one match, the main event... but I see your point

I can say this:

I always go to Hooters to watch the pay-per-views. There was a huge crowd there for Royal Rumble. I had to park at the Burger King across the street. I wasn't expecting that many people to show up for No Way Out because: 1) it's not a Big 4 PPV and 2) it wasn't really promoted that well. But I'll be damned if that crowd there wasn't LARGER than it was for Royal Rumble. My friends and I were shocked. Folks, it looks like Eddie is indeed proving his worth.

Smackdown's rating is going to be very interesting.

Did the marks think Eddie had a chance to win? Look back a month before. You had Hardcore Holly getting a superpush and Brock pretending to be terrified of him. We all knew he had no chance of winning but do the marks know the difference? I know Eddie is leagues ahead of Holly and the marks even seem to agree, but did that result in more buys? We shall see.

Eddy's push won't be safe unless he grows six inches and gains about 50 pounds.

I got a question does the WWE actually think when someone is doing a promo friends call their other friends who aren't watching the show and tell them to turn to the channel the show is on?

Used to be commonplace in the 80s with Flair promos. That's why they usually went long.

Sometimes, whenever Austin would have a dueling promo with either the Hart Foundation or Shawn Michaels, I'd call some wrestling fan buddies and tell them to turn it on. Let's face it though, the main event scene in 1997 eclipses that of today's. I think the reason for Eddy's connection to the fans is because he "lies, cheats, steals" and he has a good ability to show what his true emotions are.

In 1996 when they played a video saying Ultimate Warrior was coming back for WM12, I called my friends.

Has anyone heard whether or not Eddie is being looked upon as a long term champion?? I'm getting the negative vibe that he's just a transitional champ... and the real question is what IF Eddie is a draw? What if the ratings jump to new levels due to his latin influence? Would Vince really be that stupid to ignore it? I would hope not... but I've seen stranger things

I don't think Eddie is a transition champion. It makes utterly no sense to job him to Angle at WM. If he was just a transition champion I don't think they would have had the confetti and balloons. As I've said, we know what Kurt will do with the title as either heel or face....and to be honest it won't likely be much in terms of drawing big money. I know someone pointed out that Angle's first title run drew big money, but that was also during the time when Austin, HHH, The Rock, and UT were around so who could tell if it was really him drawing.

Right now Eddie has a chance to draw some real money, they'd be morons not to take advantage.

but this IS WWE we're talking about here... I hate to resign myself to the typical bitching smart mark, but I've seen enough stupid decision in the past two years to make me a skeptic... I was a WWE apologist for a long time, but I've become so cynical lately that whenever I see something great happen, I automatically think "enjoy it while it lasts... because they're gonna fuck it up in the end"

Giving him the title was great... and if they stick with him, they have a potential cash cow on their hands
