Who will win the World Title at WMXX?

Right now, the plan remains to have a Chris Benoit vs. Triple H World Title match at Backlash in April. This again shows that Shawn Michaels probably will not win the World Title at WrestleMania XX. The question is, will Chris Benoit or Triple H leave 'Mania with the belt? Most insiders believe that Triple H will retain the title at WMXX before losing it to Benoit in Benoit's hometown of Edmonton at Backlash.

There is talk that Triple H will take time off following Backlash to work on a movie. It should be noted that whenever Triple H has had things come up forcing him to take time away from wrestling, he has still managed to keep himself in the main event picture via vignettes or other means so it is unknown whether he will actually be away or not.

WP -- Interesting. I thought the Observer said most people were specualting that Benoit would win at Mania. As of the current situation now, I'd rather have Benoit vs HHH at Backlash than Benoit vs Michaels.

Before anybody flips the heck out --- let's read the title again.

"Speculation".

Just trying to stem the flow off at the start.

You know what? I don't even give a fuck about who wins the goddamn match anymore. All this speculation is pissing me off. When people start responding to it with negativity, it just gets worse.

I'll watch the match at Wrestlemania, and if fucking Gobbledy Gooker does a run-in and wins the belt, I still won't give a fuck.

Whoever wins the Eddie/Angle match will more than likely have an effect on who wins the three way. Do you actually think they would have a face/heel win both matches?

I'm just about ready to just flat out say that both HHH and Eddie retains at WMXX.

I really dont think Vince will have WMXX end without a face holding up the world title.

Assuming that the Raw three way is the main event...HBK or Benoit will win at Mania.

And all these rumors are getting pretty ghey...how many different 'news stories' have we heard about this match so far? ;)

I think that Eddie/Angle will be the main event at WMXX.

Not with just 3 weeks of buildup.

The story of this year's WrestleMania is Benoit's chase for the title. You could argue that it began at the Survivor Series - so that's a good 4 months right there.

I'm not sure if, with all the ME talent in big matches this year, they'd let the same guy ME two years in a row. It's not really fair to someone like Benoit.

I'm basing it on what they've said on TV. They've only said that Benoit is going to WrestleMania to try to reach his dream of winning a world title or whatever, they haven't mentioned main event with him yet.

With Angle/Eddie, they keep saying it's the main event over and over again. Making such a big deal out of Angle going to the ME two years in a row, shouting it over and over about Eddie defending his WWE Championship in the ME, and all of that.

I haven't seen anything yet to make me think differently about it.

The story is NOT Benoit's title chase.

They've made it very clear on RAW that the most important things in order are:

1. HBK finally ending his feud with HHH.

2. HHH is being screwed by having to face 2 men.

3. Benoit wants to win the title.

He's been overshadowed since the moment he set foot on RAW.

What are you talking about?

ALL THEY EVER SAY is Main EVent of WrestleMania 20. HHH says it all the time. IT's ALL he says.

I've heard it far more on RAW than on SD where they also say "Main Event of WrestleMania 20".

Well I must have missed it, because I don't remember them even refuring to HHH/Benoit/HBK as the actual ME. I guess I pay more attention to what the commentators say, I dunno. I've never heard them mention it.

But it's all over SD, they've been making a huge deal over Angle/Eddie being the ME.

To be fair, HHHe said it about the Booker match as well.

I hate to sound 'anti-Benoit', because I'm not. But, unfortunately, the pops on Raw for Benoit last week just don't warrant a World Title reign. He gets the odd Benoit chant now and then, and a decent enough upper mid/midcard level pop, but nowhere near World Title level.

That's why I doubt this'll main event over Lesnar/GBerg, and I also doubt Benoit'll win the title unless people start taking to his out of ring stuff quickly.

I just flat out refuse to believe they'll end the show on a downer by having a heel win the final match on the card.

So either HHH will lobby to have the Raw Title match on last and drop the belt, or end up lower down the card again and retain.

And I hate to sound like a generic Smark, but it's all the WWE's fault. He ran away from Lesnar and his fat, balding GM friend on SD!, came to Raw, and was booked as little more than a nuisance to the HHH/HBK feud. I no longer care about Benoit's title chase.

3. Benoit wants to win the title.

No, Benoit doesn't want to win the title. If he wanted to with "the title" then he would have stayed on Smackdown. Benoit wants to be "the best" and he wants to be recognized as "the best" at Wrestlemania. That's the _whole basis_ for him jumping. If we are to believe now that he just i)wants the title, and ii)is happy winning it where ever, then either it is a lie, or his reason from jumping to RAW was a lie.

People keep on confusing this for whatever reason.

Edit: I personally would rather Benoit be belt-happy. That means he would have stayed on Smackdown and continued the kick-ass feud with Brock which got him a lot more heat than anything he has done on RAW.

Now that was a shitty ending if there ever was one.

WrestleMania 2000

I KNOW it's happened before, but that was when the company was getting great buyrates for the PPVs and could afford to throw such a curveball at the audience (which I believe paid off with the subsequent Backlash buyrate). However right now the company doesn't need to be taking any risks like that, and it will be hoping a lot of irregular PPV watchers buy WMXX 'just because' it's WMXX. It makes sense to end the show on a 'happy note', as this is more likely to get this demographic to continue purchasing PPVs.

Plus, it's WMXX, the blow-off of all blow-offs, supposedly. How crap is having a heel win the ME?

That was different. Taking the title off of Trips just as he was getting a TON of heat for retiring Mick Foley would've killed HHH. Then who does Rock feud with?

Plus, this is the biggest Mania of all time... the face will pull it out.

Considering WWE's track record...I doubt it.

The best thing to do before HBK pinned Benoit on RAW was for Benoit to win at Mania and then beat HHH again at Backlash.

For full-on Damage control, Benoit should kill Michaels at Mania. Like KILL. Enough to put him on the shelf for at least a month (Michaels can rehab his ACL). Something big, something back-related. Just put him away. Then HHH can come out after Mania and say "I always get the belt back, I got it back from Michaels and I got it back from Goldberg, you're not the exception Chris, and I'm going to take it back at Backlash". Then after Benoit beats HHH he can go on to face Michaels who is pissed off that he didn't get a chance to get his revenge on HHH at Mania. There's a lot of cards you can play in that feud to keep it going until Bad Blood. Benoit beats Michaels at Bad Blood and goes on to Summerslam (which is hopefully in the Skydome) to defend his title once again.

Of course, this runs the risk of making Benoit a heel, but that risk has always been there since Michaels got involved and is still positioned as the #1 face..
