Guest Fire and Knives Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Eh. The system will function the same way no matter who's sitting in the Oval Office telling us he did not embezzle those funds/accept those contributions/promise a tax cut/have sexual relations with that woman. Why should I give a shit? K.
snuffbox Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Unfortunately, Bush chose to anger the Middle East/Muslim crowd and anger/dissapoint many of our allies. Wow, that's an interesting take on things. What did those Muslims ever do to us anyway? Wow.

Wow, that seems to violate, well, the experiences of anybody near one. -=Mike

Bush invaded the region without thinking of putting a puppet gov't that the public would agree with then told the world to Fuckoff and gave the contract of rebuilding the region to the company that the VP has ties to. 3. WMD's could'nt be found as easy as finding Waldo 4. Dropping bombs

razazteca Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 does it matter when Jeb Bush could be President in 4-8 years?

Let's go for the rest: 2. This has been gone over --- more than a few times --- here. You're 100% wrong here. 3. WMD's could'nt be found as easy as finding Waldo Funny, NOBODY doubted their existence before. Not a soul. 4. Dropping bombs I suppose we could be more like the governments over there and just torture all of them. Maybe we should have lobbed nerve gas at them. -=Mike

It can be gone over a million times here - it doesn't mean that Haliburton weren't given a lucrative contract. I doubted the existance of WMD's.

I have no idea which other company could do the job, no doubt many others. I don't have an anti-American agenda at all - I love America, it's just their corrupt, war mongering government that I despise.

You surely don't mean when Israel was attacked by about 7 Arab countries and defeated them, do you? What war has Israel instigated? 2) *Sigh* One last time: Haliburton won the competitive bidding for the contract for ALL emergency military work (which Iraq is) several years ago. They've been used by SEVERAL administrations (including Clinton's), so their prestige is hardly because of Cheney being VP. 3) Nobody who matters doubted it. -=Mike

What war has Israel instigated? Mike, please, it's not like Israel was attacked by 7 surrounding Arab countries, defeated them all, won land from them and then RETURNED MOST OF THE LAND as a simple gesture of peace and goodwill only to have the surrounding countries banish their own citizens from ever returning to the land in order to manipulate those people into fighting and killing Israeli citizens in a politically motivated vendetta to destroy Israel and its Jewish people, now. Oh, wait...that IS what happened...
Jobber of the Week Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Haliburton won the competitive bidding for the contract for ALL emergency military work (which Iraq is) several years ago. They've been used by SEVERAL administrations (including Clinton's), so their prestige is hardly because of Cheney being VP. This is not the problem. The problem is that that their business dealings have been sketchy enough that the government is opening a fraud probe into their activities. Certainly if the criticism was only "OMG GIVING CONTRACTS AWAY CANT YOU SEE CHENEY WORKED FOR THEM" then that wouldn't be happening, now would it?
Guest thebigjig Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 yeah and the VP is also on trial for a bribary scandal as well... funny how it's not really in the news... flash back to 98 and this would've been up front in the headlines Damn that LIBERAL media

There is more reason to be skeptical of Halliburton than there was back when we first started saying "LOL CHENEY HAS CONNECTIONS"

Guest thebigjig Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 If the case in question shows that Cheney is big oil's bitch, then yes it is relevant Now, I cant find a link... I heard it in passing on NPR(you know, pinko commie scum news source according to Anne Coulter) news a few months ago, and it was just a simple comment that mentioned that no one seems to be reporting on it. I've performed a few google searches, but I cant pull up anything... I'll keep searching and if I find something from a credible source, I'll let you know

A simple search of "Cheney bribery" on Yahoo News reveals what I think you were talking about. The report is dated Feburary 4th and it talks about Halliburton (not Cheney himself) taking kickbacks in Nigeria.
Guest thebigjig Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 yes, while he was the CEO of the company... that is what the scandal is about. Researching further, it's a french claim, so maybe it's not reliable... either way, it's a serious claim regardless that isnt getting much media attention
Guest thebigjig Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 I believe so yes... I cant really tell how serious it is... probably not if the french seem to be the only ones interested... but looking back at how the republicans were ALWAYS trying to dig up stuff on the Clintons and their business practices pre-1992 (whitewater for example) I just find it odd that no one seems to be demanding investigations and independant council investigations on some of Bush/Cheney's business dealings such as this brown and root matter and of course the Harken Energy stuff

This reminds me a lot like the whitewater scam the Clintons pulled that got dug up during the 90s. The whole ordeal was so confusing and convuluted that it was difficult for people in the SEC and Justice Dept. to follow, let alone the average joe shmoe so while it got some press it didn't get a lot of attention or grip people's attention. In fact it was so confusing that SNL did a hilarious parody with several big artists (imitated by the cast) performing a song explaining the whole thing (the image of Flea in his underwear jumping up and down singing a song explaining how the Clintons manipulated cattle futures still makes me laugh). But the point is, this is not exactly the easiest thing in the world to follow and its a very iffy pin on Cheney anyway so it won't grab much media attention.
