Midway Arcade Treasures sequel

More Midway Arcade Treasures unearthed

Second classic compilation will include the original Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Narc, Total Carnage, and more.

The retro-game craze continued today at the 2004 Midway Gamer's Day in Las Vegas. During one of the presentations, representatives of the publisher revealed there will be a sequel to its popular Midway Arcade Treasures.

The second classic compilation will feature more recent games than the first, including the original Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, NARC, and Total Carnage.

No other details were given on Midway Arcade Treasures 2, but GameSpot will have them as soon as they become available.

The possibility of finally getting an arcade-perfect (save for loading times) MKII interests me, and Total Carnage and NARC kick ass. However, what else might they put on? NBA Jam TE? Rampage World Tour?

Save NBA Jam TE and Rampage World Tour for volume 3 :)

well, I checked the arcade games Midway made on Gamefaqs--except for the ones I'm not familiar with, I don't see too many other "classics." BioF.R.E.A.K.S. and War Gods, for instance.

There's no way they would put NBA Jam on there, due to all the licensing issues involved. I wouldn't be surprised to see Arch Rivals, though.

As for what other games could be on there, don't forget, Midway also owns the rights to all of the Atari arcade games from the mid-80's on, so they have an innumerable amount of games to pick and choose from.

I'm surprised they didn't save MK and MK II for their own MK Kollection with MK3. Weird to use such a huge franchise with other games.

I already have the arcade versions. I want EXTRAS. Lots and lots of extras. Concept art, interviews, footage from the filming...

I guess whatever rights problems they had with Acclaim and the old actors is over.

Narc is cool.

I would buy a collection with Wargods.

I don't think Midway even has the rights to NBA JAM anymore.

Goddammit... I want the rest of the games from the PS1 run of Midway arcade ports. The ones I know of that didn't make the cut for Arcade Treasures were Moon Patrol (licensed from Irem), Crystal Castles, and Gauntlet 2.

I'd also be interested in several other games that haven't been ported successfully to a console before, such as APB. The only home version of APB that I know of was for the Atari Lynx handheld system. The Tron series would make this an INSTANT buy but I don't think they want to pay Disney for the rights to release it as a home version.

As for the already announced games, MK 1 and MK 2 both rule and it would be GREAT to finally get a version of NARC that wasn't total ass like the NES version. I can live without Total Carnage but it isn't a bad addition to the set.

Cruis'n Exotica

Midway made it, but I think Nintendo may own rights to it...not really classic though, is it?

Revolution X

You've gotta be kidding me. That game sucked. Plus Aerosmith probably wouldn't want that game resurfacing again.

WWF Wrestlemania

Great game, but widely available as a PS1 title. However, if they made it look as good as the arcade game I wouldn't mind it being included. Plus, it probably isn't legal to have all of the original characters in the game--Bret Hart, Bam Bam, Luger, Razor aren't in WWE (and the last two are drug fiends worried more about the law these days), and Yoko's no longer with us.

I would buy a collection with Wargods.

I guess it doesn't hurt for an anthology disc to include a comedy game.

A friend's parents bought me War Gods for Christmas one year. I knew there was an N64 game under the wrapping paper because of the shape, but I expected something better than War Gods. The friend whose parents bought me the game alreadfy owned a copy, and I despised it. I almost felt like crying, and I was like 13.

Luckily, KMart was ignorant with their exchange policy back then, and I exchanged the )opened) game for something much better, a tactic which no store would allow in this day and age.

I later acquired a used copy of the game just because it was only $4 and I am always trying to expand my collection of games (numbering 200+, 30+ for N64 which is good considering my near-terminal unemployment).

Wargods has ties to MK though! The actors for Sonya, Shao Kahn and more are in WG. That makes it cool by default.

No, it doesn't. :P

You mean as in they posed for character portraits? Because if I remember correctly all the War Gods characters were polys, so they aren't really in the game so much as they were put in goofy costumes and photographed for the select screens.

They're polygons, but their textures are taken from the actors. They hype it as "digital skin". Brian Glynn IS Warhead in WG.

Sorry Sakura-chan, but War Gods just is *not* cool, MK ties or no.

Anyway, is it me, or do the original Williams Arcade Classics on the PS1 play better than the Arcade Treasures? I was expecting more extras than what they what they put on there, but just for the retro factor this is good for me, though there are some games that do not play well in the translation, such as Spy Hunter. Its a perfect port, but the controller does not work well with that game. Then again, I thought the same thing when I got it in emulation.

Arch-Rivals would be perfect for a Volume 2, Narc isn't a bad choice, and I would love to have MKs I and II, though there should be quite a few extras, just for those two games, considering the history.

I once played War Gods on Nintendo 64.

10 agonizing minutes later, I was ready to take it back to the video store.

Hasn't Mortal Kombat III just been announced as another addition to this compilation? I'm sure I saw that over at MKOnline.

Either way, two Mortal Kombats on one disc is enough for me to buy it.

MKO says TeamXbox claims MK3 is part of it, they're not sure if it's legit yet.

If MK3 is part of it I want UMK3 too.

The only Midway game I'd ever want to touch is NBA Jam TE and that wont happen anyway.

It is a pity that it won't, that was a great sequel...

Sorry to bump an old thread, but GameSpot posted a list of the games on the compilation, and it's suitably awesome:

• A.P.B.

• Arch Rivals

• Championship Sprint

• Cyberball 2072

• Gauntlet 2

• Hard Drivin’

• Mortal Kombat

• Mortal Kombat II

• Mortal Kombat III

• NARC

• Pit Fighter

• Primal Rage

• Rampage World Tour

• Spy Hunter 2

• Steel Talons

• STUN Runner

• Timber

• Total Carnage

• Wizard of Wor

• Xenophobe

• Xybots

STUN Runner! I love that game.

Hey, looks great. Rampage didn't age so well, but World Tour is a cool update. Arch Rivals is in, which doesn't make up for the lack of NBA Jam T.E. but is still great.

No real complaints about the list except for Shit Fighter being in.

Do we have a release date set, yet?

The release date is apparently set for October 4th.

Although it gets a real bad rap on the internet, I have to admit I'm incredibly excited about the inclusion of Primal Rage.

It was original...that much you gotta give it.

Hopefully they include the CGI intro to the PS1 version, but I doubt it.

It needs to be UMK3.

Primal Rage being in is really cool. Primal Rage II would be such a great extra....

Me too, I used to I really loved that game. That whole line up really rocks.

Yeah. Nearly finished but never released.

A couple of working boards exist and are floating around somewhere.

It's definitely going to be on PS2 and Xbox. The GameSpot preview today said it would also be on GameCube, but I read a couple of months ago that Midway is pulling GameCube support, so I'm not sure. I e-mailed Midway to find out, and hopefully I'll get an answer in the next few days.
