Guest TJH Report post Posted February 28, 2004 I have heard rumours that John Kerry served in Vietnam. Has he ever mentioned it, and, if so, does anyone have any statements that he has made on the issue? I would like this cleared up before I make up my mind as to who would make the better President. Thanks Tim
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 Sure you'll get yelled at for posting unfunny fluff (timing is the key here), but I chuckled. I think it's just an urban legend myself, TJH. And on another point, I find it interesting how Bob Dole's impressive war record seemed to be glossed over by Big Media in '96, yet Kerry's 5-month stint in Asia has turned into some kind of epic that is at the cornerstone of his campaign. This sure makes me go hmmmm...
Vyce 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 Now, now, kkk, Kerry DID serve in Vietnam, which gives him perfect justification for protesting against it. ....As well as completely disrespecting veterans..... ....As well as refusing to grant necessary monetary aid to our current troops..... Are you DARING to question his great PATRIOTISM?!?!

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 This makes twice now that I've seen Village Voice used as an actual source. It is normally the kind of publication that one would toss aside as "lefty trash." I guess desperation really can make miracles happen.

It's just odd that THEY would be releasing this story and not, say, a conservative publication. If it was even on NRO, I'd have totally ignored it. -=Mike

Vyce 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 I know I'm the only one who watches MAD-TV, but they did another skit (in wake of the Michael Moore one they did a few months back) that I found funny - Mike, you would have liked this one too. The skit was what if our president was decided via American Idol? With celebrity judges - including Bill O'Reilly fulfilling the role of Simon Cowell (and it really WAS Bill O'Reilly in the sketch). Anyway, one of the cast members played John Kerry. Kerry: I'm John Kerry - I'm a Vietnam war hero. In the Vietnam War, I did things that were heroic. Sometimes my voice drones on until someone slaps me on the back. *Bill walks over and slaps him on the back* Kerry: Thanks. You know, that reminds me of something I did in the Vietnam War.... *questioning begins* Bill: Mr. Kerry, would you consider yourself aligned with the politics of Ted Kennedy? Kerry: I know Ted Kennedy. I've known him since not long after I was in the Vietnam War, in which I fought.....

kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Wow, that actually sounded funny. Bill had the guy who did Bush on his show Friday night. Too bad I'm not sifting through countless hours of unfunny programming of MadTV just to see a Mikey Moore and JFKerry skit...
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Wow, that actually sounded funny. Bill had the guy who did Bush on his show Friday night. Too bad I'm not sifting through countless hours of unfunny programming of MadTV just to see a Mikey Moore and JFKerry skit... It was actually like, in the first thirty minutes. I watched it then switched to the start of SNL. The Family Feud skit that followed was alright but only had one really funny line. "The only time it got this bad was when we had the Bush family versus those Queer Eye guys." The appearance by the Dean guy made me think there was going to be a scream, but it was a joke based on that AIdol guy who's become popular for bombing so badly. Then again, it does seem odd that you talk about "hours of unfunny programming" but watch O'Reilly pretty regularly. But hey, it's only to get to Hannity & Colmes in the next hour, right? kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Then again, it does seem odd that you talk about "hours of unfunny programming" but watch O'Reilly pretty regularly. But hey, it's only to get to Hannity & Colmes in the next hour, right? I think the last time I watched H&C they had Kelsey Grammer on and he said he was a Republican. Wait, I stand corrected -- I saw the segment when they had John Stewart on, but that doesn't count because that was toward the end of the show, and most of the time that's the best part of that program. I have Hannity on as part of my radio "channel rotation" (two talk radio stations, and two sports talk radio stations, plus my tape deck) on the way home and that is more than enough for me. (And speaking of comedy, Hannity had Ed Asner on his radio show this past week. Man was that segment golden.) I would say I watch O'Reilly 3-4 per week. I tune out whenever there's a story I don't care about like Laci Petersen or a CHILDERN AT RISK segment. In addition, The Factor is not meant to be funny (but often is) and MadTV is meant to be comedy (but often isn't, imo). And how can you tell me MadTV can produce the same kind of comedy that Carrie Fisher interview had?! Oh, and "Haf mo' parent/teacher conferences wit yo' kidz." In addition, I usually turn on Dennis Miller afterward and go to sleep with that on. Man is that show doing too bad...

That interview was great. Hannity: Stay tuned for more news, fair and balanced... Stewart: AHAHAHHAHAHAH!!! YOU GUYS STILL SAY THAT!? And how can you tell me MadTV can produce the same kind of comedy that Carrie Fisher interview had?! Well, that's true. Still, they had a Paula Zahn impersonator who, like Paula Abdul, is giving props to everybody. Paula: OH MY GOD THAT'S BRILLIANT! THANK YOU THANK YOU! Bill: Paula, he didn't say anything that anybody else hasn't said! He's for healthcare, so what! I'M for healthcare! Paula: You are? *trying to climb on him* Bill: Uh, no, wait, have a copy of my new book, "Who's Looking Out For You." *Paula proceeds to make out with the cover* I think in the segment where Kerry was constantly going on about the war, Al Roker was about to cry, Paula Zahn was asleep, and Bill was signing books and not paying attention. Guest thebigjig Report post Posted March 1, 2004 I find it funny how O'Reilly is always bashing SNL for not being as funny as it once was... yet he appears on the worst sketch comedy show on tv today? Kind of pathetic if you ask me... at least he only appeared in one sketch so he doesnt appear to be a complete sell out and another note... Dole made a pretty big deal about his war record back in '96, but I guess that's okay since he's a Republican and only Republicans are patriots that love our country... I will contend that Kerry mentions it too much and is becoming a running joke I also find it priceless that to be deemd a TRUE veteran in so many of your eyes, you must serve a required amount of time... going over there for 6 months, saving some lives, and getting shot a few times doesnt count unless you spent a maximum 3 years... otherwise it's not that big of a deal' If the roles were reversed, and Kerry's history was actually Dubyah's history, and WE on the left were attacking it with the "it doesnt matter what he did cuz he only was over there for 6 months and that isnt a big deal" standard, you would be having a caniption (sp?) fit decrying us as commie america and veteran hating bastards

I find it funny how O'Reilly is always bashing SNL for not being as funny as it once was... yet he appears on the worst sketch comedy show on tv today? Kind of pathetic if you ask me... at least he only appeared in one sketch so he doesnt appear to be a complete sell out Look at what network carries SadTV. That's all I needed to know about this unholy alliance (I'm talking about O'Reilly and MadTV, not you and I). and another note... Dole made a pretty big deal about his war record back in '96, but I guess that's okay since he's a Republican and only Republicans are patriots that love our country Yes, Dole did pimp his war record but it's nothing like what is going on today. I can't help but bust out laughing every time I hear that "V" word now. I guess that's okay since he's a Republican and only Republicans are patriots that love our country Here's the way it works: Republicans love the U.S. and want to throw children, the elderly and minorities in the gutter. Democrats care and are a bunch of commie wimps. That's the way it's been for as long as I've been around. you would be having a caniption (sp?) fit decrying us as commie america and veteran hating bastards Please. We're doing that now. Oh, and Bob Dole's war record >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> John Kerry's. And by the way, did you know John Kerry's (wife) served... up a bunch of pink slips to Heinz employees when their union jobs got shipped overseas? Too bad Kerry wasn't president because then all those "working" men and women would have had three months' notice of employment termination...

Well, we got over it in 1992. And 1996. Heck, if the left attacked Dole and Bush Sr's record because it wasn't that long, it'd have been a HUGE improvement over Kerry's "Many people served in Vietnam in many different aspects" line from 1992. -=Mike

I had to endure all that BS that went on in '94-'96 with Republicans wanting to kill everything under the sun and with Big Media talking about all these draconian cuts that would kill children. (I said it before here -- when the GOP went from talking about cutting the National Endowment for the Arts to giving it MORE money that's when I lost hope in the Party.) Now these same Democrats are whining like a bunch of little bitches about "WAAAAAAH DON'T YOU QUESTION MY PATRIOTISM!" Don't dish it out if you can't take it, I say...
