I really didn't see all the criticism here. This is only a remake in the Texas Chainsaw massacre kinda way. It's not a shot by shot remake, and because of this could be a totally different movie. So I thought it always had potential.......

Actually... [not really a spoiler, but hiding it just incase]

You've hit it right on the head with that one. It is a totally different movie. The only overly similar aspect, besides the zombies, is the mall. Everything else is 100% different. A different title would've been justified.. though, they probably wouldn't have pulled in as many potentials with out the Dawn title tacked on.

...and, just because I need to rant on how great this movie was... [more of a spoiler]

Everything about it was great. It had all the little things like cameo's from original Dawn stars, and even Tom Savini. They named the huge store within the mall "Gaylen Ross" which is the name of the actress who was in the original movie. The zombie baby! Kim Porier getting sawed in half with a chainsaw!! And the ending.. oh my god, the ending! Let's just say, I hope you guys are the types who stick around for the credits.

I can't believe that no one else here caught the pre-opening screening! Anyways, who's going to see it tonight?! I've got my tix. :D

I'm going in a little bit.

I have no expectations, I just know it's not a remake. It's not even a re-envision. I'm treating it like an entirely different series and storyline.

I'll give my thoughts when I get back.

Ok I just got back from seeing it, literally, got home and logged in to smartmarks. Hahaha.

Anyway this flick was awesome. I pretty much was watching the previews before the movie, doing my best to forget there ever was another Dawn of the Dead. If you can do that, seperate the two films, then I think you can enjoy this one for what it is.

I am not sure why people who have seen it already thought there was no character building. Sure the extra people who come along halfway through don't get much consideration, but I felt the core group received enough tension for my liking, PLUS, I mean it is the end of the world and all, so does it really matter what everyone else did prior to this catastrophic event?

I might go in depth later, but for those of you have seen it.......Did you stick around during the credits If so Read On.......

SPOILERS::::::::::::::::::::SPOILERS::::::::::::::::::::::::SPOILERS:::::::::::

.

.So how about that shit, they get to the island and there are already zombies there!?! Hahaha, and how about that Zombie head in the cooler? Question Also, did they come to the conclusion in this film that the Dead was awakening through infection via a bite from another zombie, and not people who died naturally? I think that is what they were trying to get at after the Old Lady and Meki Phifer shot each other and stayed dead........

I saw the movie this afternoon and I too enjoyed it. I especially liked the human interaction and growth between the survivors trapped in the mall. However, there were a couple of plotholes left throughout the movie that were never solved.

Edit: How do you create invisible quotes for spoilers???

Why didn't the producers ever disclose how the infection started? I saw the press conference with the CDC at the beginning. But the producers never disclosed how the infection came about. Also, why did some people turn into zombies immediately after becoming infected while the process took hours for others?

I think how fast you turn is determined by how bad you're bitten....obviously it's going to take longer to die from a little bit then say getting your jugular torn out :D

FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER!

Not one minute of this film is scary, not a damn one. It's HILARIOUS! I haven't laughed this hard in years.

I'm sorry, but this movie drags and when it tries to be scary it's just funny as hell on Earth.

Apparently when there is no more room in Hell, Hollywood will make hilarious remakes.

I agree with 2Gold.

They had the opening scene that rocked...and now I see why they put it on TV...

Then a song by Johnny Cash to go with the opening credits...

THEN they had NOTHING. Boring, and...somehow illogical for a horror film.

Bad. Bad. Bad.

And I was really looking forward to it.

Just got back from it. Fun, fun movie. I think everybody in the audience enjoyed it, if not for the action and gore then for the funny moments. But remember going into the movie: this thing is hardly scary. There are some tense moments, but the thing is more "Zombie horror" than just "horror." Resident Evil 2 (the game) was scarier than this.

So, did they definitely die at the end? It looks like it, but since it wasn't shown I guess they can always say they lived for a sequel. Everybody cheered when the blonde girl got sawed in half. She was only on the screen for a couple of minutes and yet everybody wanted to see her die.

Best scenes? Head in the cooler, Big truck continously running over zombies, target practice, and "Wait, he's writing something?!" :Holds up board with blood all over it: "Run!"

Yeah, Blonde girl just shows up and starts modeling and having sex and I was like, "who the hell are you??? Do you have a name or do I call you Slut #1??"

The line read by Ken was sooo wooden, my god I felt almost sick. It would have been better if Ving had just said the line.

One thing I couldn't figure out is HOW the HELL did they get into the mall??? One minute they are walking towards and the next they are in a store breaking open a window. What the hell??

As for the ending....they give you clues as to what happens. If you watched the clue, you have the answer.

None of that was spoilery was it???

I enjoyed it for the fact it was hilarious but I wouldn't buy it or see it again. The zombies scenes would have been better with Chariots of Fire playing over them. I had hopes the running zombies wouldn't make me feel like "House of the Dead" but they just weren't scary. It's hard to take a zombie seriously when he's running like a track star complete with the leg kicks.

Regardless of whether or not you liked this awesome movie, you had to be impressed by the lounge-singeresqe version of "Down with the Sickness" by Disturbed, right?

I mean, come on, that made my fucking night.

That was Richard Cheese btw.

He has also done Rage against the Machine, Linkin Park and LB.

And my god, that just re-affirmed my opinion this film was a comedy.

You don't get bit and then turn into a zombie. What happens, is that once you are bit you are infected, and once the infection kills you (or once you get killed while you are infected), the moment that you die, you come back to life.

Every single time someone become a zombie, they died before hand. Have it be right when they were bit because their neck was torn out, or have it be they are bit on the arm, yet do not become a zombie untill they die of the infection or are killed while infected.

I LOVED this movie. It was one of the most entertaining films that I've seen in years. It had gore, laughs, a few cheap thrills, some cool scenes, and on and on and on. I really loved it, and I will own the DVD as soon as it comes out.

There were a couple of things I had against it, but nothing that would make me say I disliked the film as a whole.

The end credits are awesome also, but I DO have two questions about the credits.

In the flashes, am I crazy, or do they not show the "smartass" I believe his name was Luis. He was killed off before they got on the boat, so why would they show him on it at the end? Also, where did that brunette on the boat come from that took her top off right as the credits ended? I don't remember seeing her at any point in the film.

I loved the ending credits, it was a very cool way to finish the film off, but those two things just had me wondering.

Luis shows up at the end because the nice mall security guy is messing around with his camcorder. The shot of him with the nude brunette (nice) is footage that was already on the camera.

I still think it was a good movie. And 2Gold, what clue?

Luis? His name was Steve...

..and I don't see how anyone can call this a bad movie. It had just as many "stupidity" and "funny" parts as the original did, plus the gore, and just like the original it was FAR from boring.

Anyone who thinks that the original is remotely scary is either under 12 years of age, or is just plain old kidding themselves. And don't misconstrue that, I LOVE the original. I'm just saying.. you can't judge any of this on "scariness."

I guess it's just a matter of taste, though. Personally, I'm a zombie guy, regardless of whether it's big budget or b-movie, comedy or serious. If it's got zombies, I'm all over it. ;)

I really liked it, as for it not being scary and it being to funny....quite frankly, as much as I love the original Dawn it wasn't scary either and was quite comical as well...the remake was a bit more in that area but I think that was also due to the larger amount of people.

question, how was the gore in this? was it on par with the original? or was it more "bloody" than gory?

On par if anything. Mostly because the blood didn't look like bright red paint this time 'round. ;)

As im planning on seeing Ladykillers and Eternal Sunshine next weekend, so I dont have time to see the entire movie again. What was after the credits?

They had some boat problems but eventually landed on an island. They got off the boat and the dog ran off barking, sounds were heard and then zombies came out. They attacked and the camera went out shortly after :D

I just got back from seeing the movie. I enjoyed it. I haven't seen the original yet so I didn't have any pre-conceived notions going into the film. Hopefully I can rent the original sometime soon.

Anyway, I don't think this movie was intended to be a comedy. It was almost like a mix between horror, action, comedy, and some drama thrown in. People in the audience weren't really scared for the most part (although they were startled by some scenes).

I really felt for Mehki Phiffer's character. To see your wife become a zombie and know that you have to shoot her, then seeing your child born a zombie has to be tough on you. I can see why he snapped...

Also, for some reason I really hoped Andy would make it out alive.

Mehki Phiffer's character was a piece of crap, I hated him from the very first scene that he was in. Then as the film went on, I hated him more and more untill I eventually was hoping that his kid would rip through gals torso and kick his ass.

Go baby death beast go!

I don't think it was his performance, maybe you just don't like him as an actor. Let's be honest, how long was he really in the movie ? He didn't have a huge major role.

There were other characters that we didn't need.

No, it isn't him as an actor or his performance.

I just despised his character.
