Super 8 Field Announced

From ECWA's website, this year's list of the Super 8 participants.

-Tyson Dux

-Rocky Romero

-Ricky Reyes

-John Walters

-Mike Kruel

-Austin Aries

-Christopher Daniels

-Nicho (formerly Psicosis)

Interesting and somewhat disappointing field this year, IMO weaker than last year's in terms of star power. Walters is the obvious choice to win, and probably will. Dux is very entertaining from the WWE B-show matches I've seen of his. Daniels in this tournament is awesome, of couse. I really don't want a shell-of-his-shell Psicosis in the tournament, but regardless he should put on an entertaining first round, and hopefully he'll do the job. Aries has had some really fun matches in IWA-MS, so I'm glad he's getting this shot and I want him to go far. Kruel is the ECWA champion, IIRC, and is kinda "bleh." Haven't seen any of Reyes and Romero so I can't comment.

Zack and I have talked about going to this show recently, and no matter what it should definitely be a good time if it happens.

I was at the Super 8 in 2002. It had:

AJ Styles

Donavan Morgan

Red

Jamie Noble

Xavier

Matt Stryker

Bobby Rude

Pepper Parks (I think that was his name)

That lineup runs laps around this year's lineup. Lots of laps.

Well, you've got the starpower (Daniels, Nicho), the up-and-comers that people have heard of (Walters, Aries), and the people who can make a name for themselves with a performance (everyone else).

Should be decent. Walters over Daniels.

Nowhere near the star power of the previous Super 8s, but I like the field here for the most part. Never seen Aries or Kruel so I can't comment on them. Daniels is Daniels, I.E. super of the good, Nicho should be entertaining enough, Walters is pretty good and almost undoubtedly going to win this thing, and the Havana Pitbulls are a damn good tag team, though I don't know how they'll do in singles. Should be pretty solid all in all.

Rocky and Ricky are both really good. Walters is good, Daniels is great, Aries is good, haven't seen Dux, and who knows if Psicosis can put on a good show. My bet is Walters over Daniels in the finals.

I'm going to come from way out of left field and say it's going to be Aries over Walters in the final

Wow. Pretty surprising field. I am surprised Daniels in it again. This is his 3rd time I belive. No huss or Shelly? Boo.

Also, Nicho is damn out of shape.

Mike Kruel is also good. I've seen a couple of matches and he is good at getting the crowd into it and is technically sound, but he is more of a heavyweight.

HAVANA PITBULLS! Great choice there. Both are ultra talented. I expect them too steal the show because people in the east aren't that familar with them.

Walters over Daniels in the finals, or maybe somebody will go over Daniels in the semis. Jim also likes too pull out surprises for matches. Remember Chance Beckett? Nobody saw him going into the finals

I'm surprised that Jacobs isn't in it either. Maybe he'll be at the show in some capacity though, since they do tend to stack this card. Plus, I wanted to make a pass at Becky Bayless.

As for what Jay said, I'm def. going, as I'm road tripping with a friend who works as an announcer/interviewer and is friends with ECWA owner Jim Kettner, so I'll have backstage access to the show, and hopefully plenty of pics. We're also bringing a video camera, and can film whatever we want except the actual matches.

Zach, you crafty bastard!

For the last couple years, ever since I read about the 2000 Super 8 in PWI, i've wanted to go, but stuff keeps popping up. ARGH!

At least I'm going to the swank Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup in july

Heh, I just got invited on a whim. All there was to it was:

Friend: "Yo Chris (my real name for the two of you who don't know), wanna come to the Super 8 tournament with me this year?"

Me: "Sure thing."

Easy as that. If the tapes my friend has are any indication, it'll be awesome, because he was there in '02 with Styles, Noble, etc. as well as the previous year with Spanky, Billy Fives, Jayson Reign, etc. and we were watching the promos/interviews the other night. If you thought Red was bad on TNA, imagine a promo where he talks soft, mumbles, and never ever looks at the camera.

Please, I'll tell you whats fun, is trying to start a conversation with Chavito, not knowing he just went through 6 drinks and really really needs to take a piss.

Or talking with Chuck Palumbo about his Snuka wannabe days and his "damn frizzy hair"

or playing some baseball with Gillberg.

yeah, thats right...I can namedrop too :)

Hehe, you wanna name drop? Hogan introduced himself to ME at Nitro in 2000, when I was backstage with the guys from my company. In fact, Rando still busts my balls about this to this day, because in true Hogan form, he said "Chris, I'm Hulk Hogan, how ya doin' brother?"

I can imagine David Flair being a cool guy.

Bill DeMott, Chuck Palumbo, Chavito, Danny Doring, Samoa Joe, and Julius Smokes are also hella nice. Bill deMott talked with me for a little bit, and just seemed geneuniely happy that I was talking to him. Danny Doring was just cool as hell, I don't know how it happened, but whenever Doring works a show in Maryland, he is over like anything. Smokes was just awesome: during the show him and the crowd exchanged so many insults, then during intermission, there he is laughing and goofing around with all the white crackers he just insulted.

Tyson Dux? That's like the dude who's been on Velocity a few times? The one who does that little dance that's actually worth marking out for?...

So...can he like wrestle? He never did anything too impressive ring-wise on Velocity...

Daniels and Psicosis seem so out of place on this list...Like they're way more experienced, or at least more known, then the others...

Yeah, thats Tyson. Tyson in the ring just reminds me of Jimmy Jacobs in so many ways. If I remember correctly he works around the Canada/Maine area for like BCW I think. He is one of there bests.
