I've read articles and reports that suggest Berkowitz knew exactly what he was doing, and he played the psychotic disorder card in order to escape the death penalty, or at least to fool the system into thinking he was not responsible for his actions. If so he took responsability for 3000 murders, but there's no way he did that many. For that to occur he would have had to be in 5 places at once for a few of the cases. I think he killed quite a few but I doubt he was in the hundreds. Especiialy since he was locked away for 15 years after he killed his mom when he was a minor. All the best known and best "loved" killers weren't really all that prolific, it matters more how much of a character somebody is. And Ottis Toole was way more interesting than Henry Lucas. He did this to try and make a love slave that could never leave him. After they died he would eat their flesh as he believed they would always be with him after that. John Wayne Gacy - The Clown from Stephen King's It was based on Gacy who often dressed as a clown and performed at the birthday parties of young neighborhood children. He then went on to kill at least 33 young boys and men who came to him to get a job at his construction corp. He burried the first 30 under his house and when he ran out of room decided to start tossing them into a nearby stream. The smell of decay that came from his house often made nearby naighbors vomit but Gacy never even noticed it. Before kill the young men he often had sex with them, but denied up to his execution that he was a homosexual. 7.) Otis Toole - Homosexual man with an IQ of 78 I believe(I'm not going to check it, either way he was considered retarded). He raped, murdered, and ate his victims. He was also a Satanist so from time to time he was seen running around graveyards with dismembered body parts on him like accesories. He looked like your typical Slack-jawwed yokel from pics I saw. 8.) Gary Leon Ridgway (The Green River Killer) - Ever imagine what that guy from the Twilight Zone that survived in the Omega Man would be if he killed people? Well you're in luck! Minus the glasses and 20 years and this is who you have. When he wasn't painting building proffesionaly he was off abducting women, raping them, and leaving them along the side of the Green River in Seattle. I admit I haven't read up on him completely so if you think he deserves to be ranked higher you may have a legitimate beef. Either way until he's executed he'll finally have all the time in the world to read his books! 9.) Ted Bundy - Possibly the smartest of all the serial killers I've read up on. He had the ability to become an excellent attorney, instead he chose the path of murder. Whether it was his mother never really interacting with him, his college sweetheart repeatedly turning him down, or a mixture of both, he decided to take out his frustrations nationwide. If I recall correctly he killed women in California, Washington State, Utah, Oregon, and finally Florida where he was captured. All the women had 2 things in common. 1. They were all brunnettes 2. They were all early to late 20s...basically years you would be in college He used his knowledge of the law to weasel out of the death penalty a few times. Then comes the funny part, he's charged for a murder that doesn't fit his M.O. at all and gets the death penalty. You can find pics of him after he was executed all over the place. Either way his path of destruction where he raped women till their insides were basically destroyed while strangling them ended. 10.) I think the difference herein lies in the fact that all these weirdos killed theese people directly, while Stalin, though known for his thuggish behaviour ,only ordered the killings of many of his former compatriots, not to mention being complicit in the liquidation of the Ukrainian peasants through what was basically forced starvation.
