So this just left me curious on what was the first two? thanks d the story of the first two is basically what Ash tells at the begining of AOD. The Evil Dead is the only one that's a true horror movie, and a pretty good one at that. Ash is pretty much a sissy here, he does get some balls as the movie progresses. Evil Dead 2 starts the same as part one, because the first 10 minutes are a remake of the first movie, after that it's all different. This one adds a lot of comedy to the mix, it's never really scary and it's fun. Ash is pretty funny here, if just because he gets beaten SO freaking much through the whole movie, everything happens to the poor guy. Groovy movie Army of Darkness forgot about the horror part completely and added a more adventure feel, Ash is at his funniest and most bad-ass self here. i own all three on DVD, one of my favorite horror series, and my favorite hero. I'm gonna tell you which DVD versions are the best for each movie, because that's a always a question when someone talk about this trilogy. - The Evil Dead - Book of the Dead Edition - Evil Dead 2 - The only one available - AOD - Boomstick Edition Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 Evil Dead 1 as far as Ash goes is a gradual progression from useless wuss to someone not useless and not a wuss but with less friends. In Evil Dead 2 he's less useless at the beggining and more...weasily comes to mind, but I don't know if that's right...and goes to being more badass and less weasily (for lack of a better term). The cover sucks, but it has restored scenes, alternate versions of finished scenes (which you can restore at the proper points), plus there's commentary from Bruce, Sam, and someone else (it's been a while). Basically, the series started when Raimi, Sam, and some other college friends filmed "Within the Woods" on a Super 8 camera. It was mainly to raise money to film The Book of the Dead (Evil Dead's original title). In it, Ash got to be the zombie. And yeah, Evil Dead is a more straightforward horror movie. Evil Dead II is somewhere between a true sequel and a remake. It's kind of meant to replace Evil Dead storyline-wise and set up Army of Darkness. It's a mix of horror and comedy which I prefer in a lot of ways to AoD. AoD is pure comedy. I don't care for Evil Dead 1 much, but I have the other two on DVD. Guest JMA Report post Posted March 4, 2004 I get kind of annoyed when people refer to AoD as a quote "campy B-movie." Hell, it's a lot better than some of the so-called "dramatic" films out there. I look at it as a sort of "thank you" to the fans of the "Evil Dead" series and a tribute to a character many fans love. AoD also seemlessly blends many genres (action, fantasy, horror, comedy, ect). All three films have their own unique charms. The original is a GREAT horror movie. The sequel/remake has a good blend of horror, comedy, and action. And AoD basically has something for everybody. The first four "Action Pack" movies were really good, IMO (the fifth was more of a clip show). As for AoD being "campy," it doesn't really fit in with the traditional definition. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2004 The only thing bad about AOD is the not-so-special effects. I had seen the first two several times but it took me til about 3 years ago to see AOD. If anything I got a few laughs out of the effects, which really didn't degrade well at all. I still like Evil Dead over Evil Dead 2 and AOD but I don't have any DVDs. I love the movie, and it brings back fond memories of seeing it with my first real girlfriend (not counting junior high bullshit) in my freshman eyar of high school about 6 years ago. It was one of her favorite movies and has become one of mine. I've been labeled as some sort of sinner for never having seen the other 2 movies in the trilogy, but now that I have a DVD player, I plan on getting all of them for my collection. As a side note, Bruce Campbell came to my hometown last year, but I couldn't go meet him because I had a commitment to be at the show of the wrestling organization I was training with. Damn you had to go all technical on me with the big words. It did have one liners and not-so-special-effects, its not as bad as the Batman & Robin movie with gov ARNOLD but Army of Darkness was never serious to begin with. What's the difference, BTW? I know I was disappointed when I got the DVD and found out it only had one of the endings instead of both of them. The VHS had both of them. Are they the same except for endings, or each has different bonus features? And although I like ED2 the most, I like them all. It's rare when a series has two good sequels, let alone two good sequels in different genres. Hopefully Campbell's upcoming movie "Bubba Ho-Tep" will get release around here, but if not I guess I'll have to wait on the DVD. I'd really like to see that and Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. Besides the Necronomicon case, the normal version also doesn't have two featurettes, "Fanalysis," and "Discovering Evil Dead." Does anybody have the Army of Darkness: Limited Edition Director's Cut DVD? I have the Boomstick Edition, and I'd like to know if the LE has anything that the Boomstick Edition doesn't. Are they the same except for endings, or each has different bonus features? they both have different features. - The Director's cut you have has a commentary, while the theatrical doesn't. - besides the ending, there are a few more deleted scenes added to the movie. - The theatrical DVD has a cool Making of Featurete.
