Lesnar update

by Dave Meltzer

[email protected]

Brock Lesnar quit the WWE last night at the TV tapings in Atlantic City. Lesnar, 26, will face Bill Goldberg at Wrestlemania in what will be his final match unless he changes his mind in the next few days. We'll have more on this later toady.

This might mean the Goldberg vs. Lesnar match might not even be ON. Go for broke on the speculation of THAT tidbit. We might not even get the matchup.

At Mania, you'll see to unidentifiable pairs of legs under the Austin ATV that will be sold as Brock/FGB.

we all knew Angle was coming back...

Austin was equally surprising as this one and somewhat more legit since Austin had the neck problems anyways...so it was believabe that Austin was done for good.

Brock just came out of left field...we assumed he was just frustrated and would get a few weeks off to relieve the pressures like Bret did and others as well...

Well, obviously this is great as far as most people are concerned since it screws over the evil empire and their big match, so woo-hoo, or something.

I'm just curious...What would Bob Sapp's asking price be?

In the Hogan Range? MORE?

Pwinsider just said that since Brock and Sable were a couple they are not sure how this will affect her.

ok that there destroyed any minute credibility that dirtsheet had with me, and this story as well.

Sable and Brock? Surely a lie.

Actually I remember hearing that they were romatically linked a while back.

Back in the fall that was reported.

Nothing new.

I took that to mean that Lesnar could still change his mind about quitting from now until Wrestlemania, not that the match wouldn't be on.

*shrugs* I take it differently, and frankly, I could see Brock walking on the match, if it is scripted up like JD98 (like so many of us immediately thought). I kinda think he would leave, hence why I said that.

MORE ON LESNAR LEAVING AND WHAT IT MEANS TO HIS MANIA MATCH WITH GOLDBERG

by Dave Scherer @ 1:52:32 PM on 3/10/2004

We have some items to follow-up on concerning the Brock Lesnar leaving WWE story.

First and foremost, I have gotten some email from people asking me if I think that Brock and Vince McMahon are working an angle on the boys and the internet. Nothing in this business would surprise me, but in talking to a number of people in WWE, no one seemed to be thinking that way. Four people I talked to, that work for the company, said that they hadn’t even considered that it could be a work. They all agreed that if it were a case of those two working the boys, it would cause irreparable damage between the boys and Lesnar/McMahon. Plus, there is nothing to gain from it and Brock has been legitimately miserable of late. Therefore, no one thinks Vince would be stupid enough to do that.

I also heard that Brock told the wrestlers that the business had taken its toll on him and that he wanted to be able to walk when he is forty. That struck a lot of people as odd since he’s only been in a few years and is only 26.

I have also talked to a number of people in the company who think that Brock is insane to think that he can go from being a non-football player to trying out for an NFL team. To say people are stunned at his career choice would be an understatement.

One of the big questions in the locker room is how this will affect Sable, since she is Brock’s significant other. The running joke backstage was Brock would only be allowed to play for a team that allowed Sable to be a cheerleader. Sable was said to be not at all happy backstage yesterday, but not just due to Brock’s announcement. I will have more on that story later today.

From what I have heard, WWE is meeting today to discuss what to do with the Lesnar-Goldberg match. Obviously, with both men leaving after WrestleMania, it puts them in something of a quandary as to how to book the bout. What actually makes the most sense is to put over the non-wrestler in the match, Steve Austin, as the star. Sure, he doesn’t wrestle but at least he will be there next week.

then he's in for breach of contract and loses that lofty purse.

Lesnar has a wife but they are separated,Brocky's been doing the dirty sanchez to Sable since last year.

Wait, I thought Brock was living with his baby's momma. I didn't know they were actually married. Also, I thought he and Sable were just friends, not lovers.

Hell, by signing Lesnar, you'd probably get some good publicity (all publicity is good remember) as it would probably make headlines across the sports media.

Then there's JR who is just in loooooove with football and football players and mentions both all the time on RAW.

I expect Brock to be back in time for SummerSlam. If not, WrestleMania XXI. If not then he'll either not be back for years or probably never.

I think he was justified in his complaints. We all complain about our jobs - anyone who says that isn't true is a dirty liar. I also agree regarding the Holly/Gunn thing. I'm sorry, but it's been clear that Goldberg/Lesnar has been planned since November, likely before. That was around the same time Holly came back and proceeded to punk out Lesnar every week FOR TWO MONTHS. How is Lesnar supposed to match up to Goldberg if he's running scared of this balding bucktoothed roid monkey who had NEVER main evented anything before in his life? Had it been Chris Kanyon (and please, before anyone starts, I've never been a big fan of him) that had his neck broken by Brock it would have been forgotten. The 6 minute win at the Rumble and the 2 minute win on Smackdown were more pyrrhic than anything else. Don't forget NWO where Brock ran away AGAIN from Holly. Why? Of course, it didn't stop there. I'm sorry but that match with Gunn was bullshit on so many levels. Gunn is the male Torrie Wilson (i.e. bimbo) who is only supported by DX marks who wear dingy "Suck It" T-shirts and just can't let it go that the gimmick is dead. There's no reason why he couldn't get the Matt Hardy from this week's RAW treatment when he faced Lesnar. He is a Velocity talent, a jobber, and he's destroying Brock's shoulder and putting submissions on him just a few weeks before Brock is facing Goldberg and going up against Austin? What the fuck was that???? It might have been a decent match fundamentals-wise, but in WWE-land things have to be put into perspective (that is, fuck loyalty) especially when there's big PPV paydays invovled. Many a fan think Brock is a big pussy. As for Taker, I don't think it's unreasonable that he's having doubts. Their 2002 feud doesn't even match with their 2003 feud in terms of atrocity. It didn't end at No Mercy where Brock needed 4 people running-in to win. It ended at the next Smackdown were Brock lost to Taker three times (the last time eating the pin), so Taker can have a match with VINCE McMAHON, A NON-WRESTLER. Yes, he is so unreasonable to not be peeing himself in anticipation for Taker's return. If he's supposedly the franchise player of the future, PORTRAY HIM AS SUCH. If there's one thing that wears thin on people, including myself, is wishy-washy booking. Brock was the closest thing to decisive booking, up to a certain point. And that point usually was Taker or some Office Darling du Jour.

However, Brock is putting the carriage in front of the horse by quitting and talking about the NFL. The NFL is not going to roll over for this guy. Football dominates RAW in the ratings and there's no reason why they should be aflutter for a wrestler. He is not going to get a free pass, and he was a wrestler in college, not a football player. If he thinks he's not going to struggle then he has another thing coming.

Good luck to him in whatever he does. He'll need it.

I'd leave the door open for a Lesnar return.

Have Goldberg turn heel mid-match and let Austin help Brock win.

Um, Choken One, firstly, I know he'd lose the purse. As I said, if it is scripted like JD98, I could see him doing so. It doesn't mean he will, but I could see it happening.

And since it has been assured that Austin is going to be the one put over because of the match, doesn't the burial already start with that match? I mean, since neither man will be able to get vengeance on Austin, how does that make them look? Both men are considered big stars will look nothing less than ordinary unless this is seen as a huge and massive screw job (Montreal like) which really would probably turn off a lot of people in the process.

And hell, by just leaving, don't you think Triple H will be kind enough NOT to take as many shots as he can at Lesnar? Or anyone else for that matter? You better believe he'll still get the shots. Just not as bad as if he left before his match at Wrestlemania would. He'll still get a partial burial when he leaves.

Well, Triple H runs the company, so whatever he wants to do is what will happen.

What we have here, folks, is proof that Brock is smarter than Kurt Angle.

we knew that the second Brock went "Wait a Sec...I'm injured...Maybe I shouldn't wrestle tonight"...

If Austin did stun both guys and declare himself the winner. He would get even more over than he is.....come back for one match to say a John Cena or someone of the like, put them over and there's your new star. I think they will move Orton back to SD! anyway.

Ideally Orton is suited for Smackdown where they can lie and tell us he's getting heat when he isn't...

Yuh huh...cause a written contract and financial security doesn't come close to unemployment and an uncertain future.

Yeah but Brock's a millionaire now... if he's smart with his money, and invests, he could retire now and do nothing the rest of his life and live well
