Karnage Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 First of all, the game is going to have 70+ wrestlers and authentic arenas. Some of those arenas announced so far are Madison Square Garden, Skydome and Boston Gardens. The commentary is now a three man commentary with Bobby Heenan, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbysko. Some of the match types include Table, First Blood, Ladder, Steel Cage, Battle Royal, Iron Man, Hardcore, 6 and 8 Man Tag, Elimination, Handicap, and 3 and 4 Way Dances. Oh yeah and Bret Hart is going to have a wrestling tutorial mode. This is the roster so far. This is just the officially announced wrestlers, theres still more to come like the wrestlers seen on some of the screenshots. Dory Funk, Jr. Sabu Terry Funk British Bulldog Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat Jerry "The King" Lawler Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka Hacksaw Jim Duggan The Sheik Ivan Putski "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert King Kong Bundy Dynamite Kid Abdullah The Butcher "Superstar" Billy Graham "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff Iron Sheik Nikolai Volkoff Bobby "The Brain" Heenan Rick Martel Mr. Fuji Rocky Johnson Kerry Von Erich Owen Hart Harley Race Bret "Hitman" Hart "Rowdy" Roddy Piper Big John Studd "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart Ultimate Warrior Jake "The Snake" Roberts Dusty Rhodes Diamond Dallas Page Sting Randy "Macho Man" Savage The game is coming to XBOX and PS2 only and so far is looking pretty good. They have ditched the whole "LJN action figure" look of the wrestlers as seen in the first two games and the gameplay has this thing called "Ready to Brawl" controls. Here's some fresh screenshots from IGN.
Jebus Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Cool...Curt Hennig! and the SmackDown! arena!?!?!? Can they do that?
Guest Krazy Karter Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Cool...Curt Hennig! and the SmackDown! arena!?!?!? Can they do that? I think it's "SHOW DOWN" with the Smackdown font. Clever.

Use Your Illusion Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 From IGN.com: What is it about big sweaty men in tights that gets the attention of the American public? It's been an obsession decades in the making. Whatever the reason, this love for this universe made of fake-and-bake, baby oil and Speedos has extended to gaming with publishers like EA, THQ and Acclaim giving the "sport" a go. The latter publisher will add another wrestlefest to PlayStation 2 and Xbox libraries later this year, Showdown: Legends of Wrestling. As clichéd and marketing-talk as this may sound, if wrestling had an All-Star game, this would be it. Over 70 of some of the coolest, craziest, greatest wrestlers of all time fill up the massive roster. Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Sting, Hulk Hogan, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Ultimate Warrior, Dusty Rhodes, Mr. Fuji--tons of names that most of us remember growing up. Now they're all in one game. There are some classic match-ups, too, 15 total with eight unlocked at the outset. The create-a-legend feature, with all new textures, is even more tuned to allow for almost limitless possibilities; we're still working on making the perfect virtual Fran. We'll get back to you on that one. Matches, for those who sweat the details (get it?) include Table, First Blood, Ladder, Steel Cage, Battle Royal, Iron Man, Hardcore, 6 and 8 Man Tag, Elimination, Handicap, plus 3 and 4 Way Dances. And whatever mode you do choose you'll get three-man commentary with Tony Schiavone, Larry Zbyszko and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. A wrestling tutorial from the "excellence of execution", Bret "Hitman" Hart will make sure you don't suck--well, maybe. UYI
dubq Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Holy crap! I didn't even know he was confirmed for this game! Wicked! All we need now is Rick Rude!
Dobbs 3K Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I'm pretty sure Rick Rude is in the game too
Guest Askewniverse Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 All this game needs now is Brian Pillman. EDIT: took down the Savage-Steamboat pic. You can see it in the post below.
dubq Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 WrestleMania III! All this game needs now is Brian Pillman. He was in the previous games, so he should be in this one too. I mean, if they've still got Putski in there, then Pillman should be too, right? RIGHT???

Dobbs 3K Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I'm sure RVD isn't in because of his WWE contract. I would bet Pillman is, though it's kind of weird they haven't mentioned him yet.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Pillman and Rude have both been seen in screenshots.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Some great looking pictures here
Karnage Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 I don't know what is up with Gamespot, all they give me are red Xs.
Use Your Illusion Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Holy shit, they nailed Hennig's model about as well as they could have. I'm in love with how Stinger is looking in those pics as well. Fucking unreal. UYI

RIGHT??? Well, RVD was in the previous games, but he doesn't seem to be in Showdown. Because he was only signed on those games. Then he signed with WWE.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 I kind of want to get this game. I really hope there's a way that you can have authentic music in this game.
Downhome Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 If only the gameplay is worth it. You can have as many features as you want, all of the wrestlers in the world, but if the gameplay sucks ass then I could care less about it. *crosses fingers*
Downhome Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 This makes me happy. http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=280919
snuffbox Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Anyone know what this 'ready to brawl' gameplay mode is all about?
snuffbox Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 I kind of want to get this game. I really hope there's a way that you can have authentic music in this game. It appears to be new music composed by Jimmy Hart
Perfxion Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Well, you can write off hearing alot of the "WWF/'E" Owned themes and really, what theme did people like Superstar Billy Graham have?
MrRant Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 I kind of want to get this game. I really hope there's a way that you can have authentic music in this game. It appears to be new music composed by Jimmy Hart Hopefully they will allow ripping tracks.

It appears to be new music composed by Jimmy Hart I hate the way that Acclaim acts like this is a selling point for the game. It's [the music he did in the previous two games] got to be some of the crappiest music I've ever heard in a wrestling game.
Jebus Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 He wrote "Sexy Boy" and for that Jimmy Hart deserves our undying love and respect *bows*
snuffbox Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 He wrote "Sexy Boy" and for that Jimmy Hart deserves our undying love and respect *bows* no
Use Your Illusion Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Well if you don't want to give him props for 'Sexy Boy', recognise the greatness of Hogan's WCW theme, 'American Made'. That had a young mark UYI dancing around his living room whilst stopping momentarily to 'Hulk Up'. UYI
