EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2004 From 411 PPV Buyrates & Main Events For All Past WrestleManias Posted By Ashish on 03.12.04 See how WrestleMania has done over the years and who has drawn... The following are the buyrates for the past WrestleMania PPVs (going back to 1987). As of last year, a 1.0 buyrates translates to roughly 400,000 buys. That figure does not apply to earlier years. Note that WWE is hoping that WrestleMania XX draws at least 1,000,000 buys (roughly a 2.5 buyrate). WWE has not drawn that high a buyrate for WrestleMania since 1991. WrestleMania III 1987 Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant 10.2 buyrate WrestleMania IV 1988 Main Event: Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiase 6.5 buyrate WrestleMania V (1989) Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage 5.9 buyrate WrestleMania VI (1990) Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior 3.8 buyrate WrestleMania VII (1991) Main Event: Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter 2.8 buyrate WrestleMania VIII (1992) Main Event: Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair | Hulk Hogan vs. Sycho Sid 2.3 buyrate WrestleMania IX (1993) Main Event: Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna 2.0 buyrate WrestleMania X (1994) Main Event: Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna 1.68 buyrate WrestleMania XI (1995) Main Event: Shawn Michaels vs. Diesel | Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Lawrence Taylor 1.3 buyrate WrestleMania XII (1996) Main Event: Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels 1.2 buyrate WrestleMania XIII (1997) Main Event: Sycho Sid vs. The Undertaker | Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin 0.77 buyrate WrestleMania XIV (1998) Main Event: Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin 2.3 buyrate WrestleMania XV (1999) Main Event: Steve Austin vs. The Rock 2.32 buyrate WrestleMania XVI (2000) Main Event: The Rock vs. Triple H vs. The Big Show vs. Mick Foley 2.35 buyrate WrestleMania XVII (2001) Main Event: Steve Austin vs. The Rock 2.18 buyrate WrestleMania XVIII (2002) Main Event: The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan 1.60 buyrate WrestleMania XIX (2003) Main Event: Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar | Hulk Hogan vs. Vince McMahon | The Rock vs. Steve Austin 1.40 buyrate

Guest Brian Report post Posted March 12, 2004 I don't think the buyrates are consistent throughout time. Buyrate numbers are based on availability, and in the older days, less people had the ability to purchase pay per views. Hence, you can get a higher buyrate without the same amount of customers. So that 400,000 number probably needs to be revised through time. At least that's how I always understood it.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted March 13, 2004 WrestleMania XVIII (2002) Main Event: The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan 1.60 buyrate So, Triple H goes blame free, huh? He wasn't the advertised Main event and BLAME free? That's a good buyrate...considering the entire card was made on the spot. I'm betting WMXX goes 1.95 this year...bigger hype and more appealing card.

Guest krazykat72 Report post Posted March 14, 2004 The X-8 Main Event was totally Hogan vs. Rock. It was promoted far more heavily than any other match including the Jericho/HHH match. The most PPV buys any WWF/E PPV has done was Wrestlemania X-7 with Austin vs. Rock on top which did 950,000 buys. So, no wrestling PPV has ever topped 1,000,000 buys. SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2004 When Rock made the challenge he offered Hogan "one more main event", refering to the match as the main event. To my knowledge, that was the only time it was referred to as a "main event". Y2J/HHH was a, if not the, main event because it was (a) the last match on the card and (b) was for the WWF Undisputed Title.

BUTT 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2004 Didn't they promote Austin/Hall, Rock/Hogan and HHH/Jericho as a triple main event? However, I do remember that they had Drowning Pool "tell the story of the main event", performing "Tear Away" while highlights of the HHH/Jericho feud played on the video screen. Still, they did promote Rock/Hogan like it was the biggest match on the card.
