Remember, these are the guys who claim pretty much every terrorist attack as their work (Madrid, Istanbul), and they also claimed responsibility for the blackouts, and they claimed a truce with Spain.

In fact, this is also the group that came out and blamed Spain's role in Iraq as being the reason for attacks. In this article, they declare a truce with Spain's new government.

WE WANT BUSH TO WIN

The statement said it supported President Bush (news - web sites) in his reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry (news - web sites), as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

In comments addressed to Bush, the group said:

"Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilization."

"Because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected."

The group said its cells were ready for another attack and time was running out for allies of the United States.

So, at the very least, this carries the same credibility as..

this group's admission of responsibility for the Madrid bombings

this group's motive for undertaking a bombing

this group's claim of a truce with Spain

Very Interesting..

And it begins. You can almost predict what each post after this will be like.

Sigh. More posts "defending Bush" and "criticizing Bush." :(

This is IMO the most damning criticism of Bush EVER. Imagine the fuel this gives his opponents; instead of making ads suggesting that terrorists love him and his policies, they can report it as a fact!

Now, Bush=Terrorism.

Will you shut up?

I don't even care much about the original topic. I have no interest in what terrorists say or what they applaud. I just want them dead.

But I am sick to death of your namby-pamby mincing nancy-boy "sigh" crap bemoaning everyone's "partisan" arguments, like you're so fucking above it all because you've never held an opinion in your spineless life. Put a goddamn sock in it, you miserable snivelling pantywaist.

What, exactly are people supposed to post about?

How the new All Abouts are probably the best girl scout cookie ever?

Or is everyone just supposed to talk in vague terms about the situation without actually mentioning their opinions on it?

Actually.. there's doubts about if this group (Abu Hafs al Masri Brigade) actually exists. Much less, if they've executed any terrorist attacks. Their history seems to indicate that they take credit for attacks.

But some U.S. officials cautioned that the al-Masri Brigade claimed to have caused last year's blackout in the northeast United States. The group sent similar letters to Al-Quds Al-Arabi claiming responsibility for November's bombing of synagogues in Turkey and the August bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad.

Intelligence sources have consistently told CNN that the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade does not speak for al Qaeda, and there is question as to whether it exists at all beyond one person with a computer and a fax machine.

(..)

CNN consultant Paul Eedle in the past has suggested the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade may be more interested in waging a propaganda war than in truthfully revealing who is behind particular acts of terror.

It should be noted that the Abu Hafs Al-Masri Brigades claimed responsibility for the August 2003 blackout in the U.S. (which was a large-scale technical failure), calling it "Operation Quick Lightning in the Land of the Tyrant of This Generation."

Still.. the Brigade is, at best, dumbasses, and at worst, terrorists.

Gee, Anglesault, I hear those guys that some people call "terrorists" but other people call "freedom fighters" and yet other people call other things entirely might or might not have been responsible for blowing up (oh dear, that's such a judgemental term, isn't it? I didn't mean it that way!) a building that could be called a hotel in some places (although it probably wouldn't in others, because cultures are so different and who are we to judge what is or isn't a hotel?) in Baghdad (or Bagdad, I don't want to offend anyone by using an h, or Madinatu as-Salaam, for anyone still living in the 8th century - which isn't wrong by any means!) and could possibly thus be held responsible by those who actually assign responsibility to people for their actions (though that surely doesn't include me, well, not most of the time anyway) for the deaths - that's such a harsh word, isn't it? Let's call it the unexpected cessation of life functions for a variety of possible reasons - of 29 people. (You know, 29 is such a culturally imperialist number - they're Arabic numerals! I don't know if we have the right to use them, really. I apologise to anyone who was offended. Please don't kill me! Please! I'm sorry I'm white! I'm so sorry!)

More examples of "Brigade" fun

The FBI has received no specific, credible threats to electronic power grids in the United States in the recent past, and the claim of the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade to have caused the blackout appears to be no more than wishful thinking. We have no information confirming the actual existence of this group, which has also claimed on the Internet responsibility for the 5 August bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Jakarta and the 19 July crash of an airplane in Kenya.

I've seen this story reported around, and it's just about the most horseshit thing I've read all year long.

It's right up there with OMG BUSH = HITLER!!!!

And I'M accused of taking things too seriously? Geez, calm down. I don't want to intentionally piss anyone off. I'll leave this folder if my posts bother you so much.

I suppose now I'll be yelled out for not lashing out at you. So be it.

I can neither support nor condemn anything you say.

Nor can I praise or condemn any comments from people who are either terrorists or nice people in bad situations.

I just come to this folder to find out if John Kerry served in Vietnam.

Anyone know?

It's a dirty rumor.

...Just like Cheney with Haliburton. Never, EVER happened :)

The Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade puts out some weird-ass poetry..

'Operation Quick Lightning in the Land of the Tyrant of This Generation'

'Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps'

Take that Dead Poets Society!

(note: anybody know if the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade claimed credit for the storm out in the East?)

DAMN STRAIGHT!

This is pretty funny.

The Bush camp should leak a rumor that Kerry sent it in.

Anything that gets me closer two Yale grads kicking each other in the balls until one can go no more at the debates works for me.

C'mon, JMA. I think you're generally a pretty okay guy, but don't throw a pity party here.

I think part of the problem Marney has with you is that you've come into some of these threads lately and sort of naively expected everyone to be debating the merits of these stories with civility. It won't happen.

Um, "Al Qaeda-linked terrorists endorse Bush" isn't really going to generate "good" dialogue.

Well, you know the U.S. troops in the Revolutionary War were probably considered "terrorists" by the English, so we ALL come from terrorists (or freedom fighters, whatever floats your boat). It's just that the Man left out the part of us blowing up the Redcoats via suicide bombers in our school textbooks.
