Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists endorse Bush

Remember, these are the guys who claim pretty much every terrorist attack as their work (Madrid, Istanbul), and they also claimed responsibility for the blackouts, and they claimed a truce with Spain.

 

In fact, this is also the group that came out and blamed Spain's role in Iraq as being the reason for attacks. In this article, they declare a truce with Spain's new government.

WE WANT BUSH TO WIN

 

The statement said it supported President Bush (news - web sites) in his reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry (news - web sites), as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

 

In comments addressed to Bush, the group said:

 

"Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilization."

 

"Because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected."

 

The group said its cells were ready for another attack and time was running out for allies of the United States.

 

So, at the very least, this carries the same credibility as..

 

this group's admission of responsibility for the Madrid bombings

this group's motive for undertaking a bombing

this group's claim of a truce with Spain

This is IMO the most damning criticism of Bush EVER. Imagine the fuel this gives his opponents; instead of making ads suggesting that terrorists love him and his policies, they can report it as a fact!

Actually.. there's doubts about if this group (Abu Hafs al Masri Brigade) actually exists. Much less, if they've executed any terrorist attacks. Their history seems to indicate that they take credit for attacks.

 

But some U.S. officials cautioned that the al-Masri Brigade claimed to have caused last year's blackout in the northeast United States. The group sent similar letters to Al-Quds Al-Arabi claiming responsibility for November's bombing of synagogues in Turkey and the August bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad.

 

Intelligence sources have consistently told CNN that the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade does not speak for al Qaeda, and there is question as to whether it exists at all beyond one person with a computer and a fax machine.

CNN consultant Paul Eedle in the past has suggested the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade may be more interested in waging a propaganda war than in truthfully revealing who is behind particular acts of terror.

 

It should be noted that the Abu Hafs Al-Masri Brigades claimed responsibility for the August 2003 blackout in the U.S. (which was a large-scale technical failure), calling it "Operation Quick Lightning in the Land of the Tyrant of This Generation."

 

Still.. the Brigade is, at best, dumbasses, and at worst, terrorists.

I think part of the problem Marney has with you is that you've come into some of these threads lately and sort of naively expected everyone to be debating the merits of these stories with civility. It won't happen.

Well, you know the U.S. troops in the Revolutionary War were probably considered "terrorists" by the English, so we ALL come from terrorists (or freedom fighters, whatever floats your boat). It's just that the Man left out the part of us blowing up the Redcoats via suicide bombers in our school textbooks.
