Guest Anglesault Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Alot of people blame Brian Gerwitz and his total lack of talent for Matt Hardy's burial, but I just thought of something. Recently, I think I read that Michael Hayes is like the number 2 writer on Raw. He, of course, was the Hardy Boyz manager for a couple of months in 99. In The Hardyz recent book, I think they made some anti-Hayes comments that really offended Hayes. Could that be part of the reason that Matt is being buried this year and Jeff was last year? Or do I just totally have my facts f'd up?
Guest JMA Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Could they be punishing Matt because Jeff left?
Guest Anglesault Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Well, Jeff didn't leave, he got fired.
AndrewTS Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Lessee... Matt is, if the WWE stats are correct, around 6'2", the minimum "idea" height for up-and-coming stars (Kurt and Austin are about this height). He's pretty much a WWE-developed talent through-and-through. Pretty darn good in the ring. Charisma out the wazoo, complete with nicknames, hand-signals, and other hooks. His "look" may or may not be what WWE wants, depending on what the hell they want at this point in time. --kinda narrows it down to him pissing some one off. Is there a reason I could have missed?
Dandy Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I would say that the Hayes thing is as good a bet as any.
Guest JMA Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Well, Jeff didn't leave, he got fired. Well, yeah. But creative always wanted Jeff to be the star, not Matt. Maybe creative resents him because of this. He also got over on his own. Look at how others are punished because they got over on their own.
razazteca Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 HHH fears the movement of small wrestlers getting over...

Maybe creative resents him because of this. He also got over on his own. Look at how others are punished because they got over on their own. That makes no sense--but it reminds me of something else in Matt's favor: He's a good worker in the context of the WWE style. It can't be that he wrestles a style that the office hates. However, Jeff was spot, spot, spot, spot--fucking up almost every damn one of them near the end. How could he be the guy WWE wanted to be the star? Besides the style, he's lankier, looks like a heroin addict, and he sucks ass on the mic. What the hell sort of star quality does he have? Getting over on his own though--that's a good bet as well.
The Amazing Rando Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 HHH: The midgets-uh is coming. Random Writer: I think you mean "the midgets are coming" HHH: That's what I said-uh...the midgets-uh is coming!" Random Writer: No...you said "is coming" ...you should say "are coming" HHH: Are you-uh saying I don't know when I is coming and when I are coming? Random Writer: Now that just didn't make any sense. Random Smark (popping in): Like anything else does.
The Mandarin Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Anyone remember when he called Undertaker back to the ring after their ladder match? Jeff's voice was ear-splitting. It was really hilarious.
AndrewTS Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 The only real advantage Jeff had, I think: back before Jeff was all f'ed up, he was the better looking of the two. A Jeff Hardy fangirl once told me she didn't really like Matt as much because Matt "looks like a gorilla." Although, to the WWE that's a *good* thing, right?
razazteca Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 However, Jeff was spot, spot, spot, spot--fucking up almost every damn one of them near the end. How could he be the guy WWE wanted to be the star? Besides the style, he's lankier, looks like a heroin addict, and he sucks ass on the mic. What the hell sort of star quality does he have? What did you expect when WWE pushed Jeff to have a ladder match every week? The ladder match is not a gimmick that should be done every week because it gets boring quick especially with Jeff doing the same 2 spots every time.
jester Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Sometimes I think that WWE has totally forgotten how to push a wrestler or build his credability. Maybe they really think a bunch of losses will create more fan interest in their warped logic.
Guest JMA Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 That makes no sense I don't claim to understand WWE Logic.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 WWE always wanted to push Jeff and not Matt because Jeff was always more over than his brother. If the reason for Hardy's burial is indeed because of the comments made towards Michael Hayes, then that is nothing but a complete lack of professionalism - but look at what industry we're talking about here. It is rather funny that they can push a heel non-wrestler like Jonathan Coachman when you can't do the same for a heel wrestler with charisma, ability, could draw and, indeed, has his own hand signals to boot.
Dangerous A Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Matt is, if the WWE stats are correct, around 6'2", the minimum "idea" height for up-and-coming stars (Kurt and Austin are about this height). Off topic a little, but Kurt Angle is not 6'2. No way. No how. I've stood next to him at a house show when he paused and slapped hands in the aisleway. I'm 5'10 and I was the same height, shit maybe even a smidge taller. Kurt Angle is not 6"2.

Guest Goodear Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 The problem with Matt as I see it is that he's too much like Christian and Jericho used to be as far as style of heel. So pushing him and that guy at the same time would be a bit redundant since they're pretty much on the same level. Perferring Christian, the WWE choses to elevate him and wait on Hardy.
Guest Goodear Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 As oppossed to those MAMMOTH world champions they have?
Guest drdrainoscott Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Meltzer always attributes his depush to something that he wrote in the book. Could very well have been those comments about Hayes.
Guest Choken One Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Personally, With the reports of Jeffery Hardy in talks with WWE about coming back, I wouldn’t be shocked if they are burying Matt so that Jeff can come back look like a bigger star like WWE had intended…not sure why…I dunno if they would go with Jeff/Matt feud(which worked PERFECTLY last time didn’t it) but by burying Matt, you aren’t helping Jeff if that goes down(it’s most natural way for Jeff to return)…wasn’t the last time we Saw Jeff when Matt slapped him or vice versa? Or perhaps they want jeff to look like the MESSIAH or something and return and get Matt back on his winning ways.
notJames Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 For what it's worth: WWE was planning on having a Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry match at WrestleMania XX before Henry got injured. The plan was to have Hardy snap his losing streak at the show. Once Henry got injured though, WWE dropped Hardy's losing streak gimmick. I don't know which is worse, being buried or having a program with Sexual Forklift.
Guest BDC Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Well, at least he was going to win... Always look on the bright side of death...

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Jeff Hardy is not returning. At all.
The Czech Republic Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 Look at how others are punished because they got over on their own. That principle goes all the way back to the Hollywood Blondes. Possibly further, but they were the most notable example.
