OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 Jeff Jarrett and Abyss needed police escorts as they left a show in Mexico City on Sunday night. Jarrett defeated Latin Lover of AAA in the main event which enraged the crowd and caused them to start throwing garbage at Jarrett. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 I read this last night and had a good laugh. I don't really know how to respond other than that AAA fans really care about their product. The report said there were 18,000 fans there and they weren't pleased at all. As soon as Jarrett drops the NWA title, AAA would be wise to book a rematch where Latin Lover goes over. They'll draw a huge gate for that. Other than that...it makes me wish TNA would have their X Cup filmed in Mexico in front of a huge crowd.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted March 22, 2004 I honestly just think this is a case of fans at the asylum need to start riot of their own......DAMN IT!!!!!!

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 22, 2004 Latin Lover?! I'll refrain from making wiseass jokes on his 2 week WWF stint in 1997 with other AAA guys (cough:along with Hector Garza I think too:cough) This must mean either Jarrett is over or the crowd hates his guts. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 That's the part I'm having trouble figuring out myself. I can't imagine there are 18,000 mexican wrestling fans that give a shit about Jarrett...let alone that they could manage to get them all in the same place at the same time. My theory is that they didn't like an outsider coming in and beating one of their guys. Which is good for AAA...because they can make a lot of money on a rematch. It's kind of like AAA beating team TNA in their home arena...only there wasn't 18,000 people watching...and no one cared.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 Yeesh. TNA definitely needs to film an AAA X Cup Defense in Mexico if the crowd was THAT big and THAT vocal.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted March 22, 2004 It's pretty normal for them to riot for an American wrestler to go over a bigger name Mexican star if I remember correctly.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 22, 2004 Yeesh. TNA definitely needs to film an AAA X Cup Defense in Mexico if the crowd was THAT big and THAT vocal. That would mean the TNA owners would have to have a functional brain. I like TNA a lot, but even I think that a lot of the stuff they do can be done better or something sucks so bad to just cut it loose.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 This doesn't totally surprise me, as if there's one thing I've noticed in my entire.....oh, one month.....history of watching lucha libre (on Galavision!), it's that for whatever reason Latin Lover is VERY over. And he can actually be a decent worker at times, when he's motivated (or perhaps when he's coked up). One question - did Jarrett get any help in his big win from Leatherface, Monsther, or any of the other shitty heavyweights they have running around in AAA? The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 The full story says that Abyss helped him win. Meltzer said in one of his updates last weekend that they were planning on doing a big angle where they bloodied up Antonio Pena and then they'd show that on TNA (since Pena is the Team AAA leader)...maybe they did that and it helped incite the crowd. BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 Fans in the asylum should take note of this and throw garbage at Jarrett whenever he walks out to cut a promo or wrestle. Eventually he would just stop coming out...
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted March 22, 2004 The funny thing is....if TNA is smart, they might be able to make some serious money from promoting in Mexico. If they had a working relationship with AAA, they could benefit greatly financially. But then again I highly doubt they would even attempt this.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 Well...they do have a working relationship with AAA...but they aren't going to make any money off of AAA's end. They pretty much have a talent swap going on. AAA sends in the AAA team twice a month, and TNA sends in guys occasionaly to work their shows (like Jarrett and Abyss this weekend). AAA is just doing a better job with it. Although...the X Cups are the thing I look most forward to from TNA...so I guess everyone's making out a little. Guest Coffey Report post Posted March 22, 2004 LOL, 18,000 Mexican marks. Still, nowhere close to what Roddy Piper went through in Mexico after his "anthem."

Beating up Antonio Pena causes a riot? Shit, the heels beat the shit out of him every week down there. Cibernetico, Charly Manson, Aguila....I think they draw straws to see which of them beats the old man down that week.

slimm44 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2004 Jarrett did get garbage and beer bottles thrown at him back in January after one of the shows. I believe it was the tag team match with him and Abyss vs. Styles and Watts. Mike Tenay flipped out at Dutch Mantell after the crowd started to leave. It was intense. Jarrett was going to come after a couple fans but Borash stopped the fans from taunting

Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted March 24, 2004 Still, nowhere close to what Roddy Piper went through in Mexico after his "anthem." Yeah, I remember that from his book........ FUNNIEST.THING.EVER. What happened, exactly? While wrestling for the NWA territory in california, Piper was thinking of a way to get more heat for himself. So he thought of an idea. Because the territory had a huge hispanic fanbase, he started doing interviews where he said that he and the fans had gotten off on the wrong foot. Thus, he would make it up to them by learning to play Mexico's national anthem on his bagpipes. They worked this for weeks as Piper would say "Only a few more weeks before I can give you fans what you have been waiting for. Only a short time before I finish learning it". Then when the week came, he got in the ring with the bagpipes and started playing "La CuCaracha" instead of the national anthem of Mexico......starting a riot in the process. I even believe he was stabbed in the ring or trying to go backstage.
