Guest glennsoe Report post Posted March 26, 2004 GOLDBERG TALKS ABOUT FUTURE IN WRESTLING, RIPS WWE by 1Wrestling.com Updated: 3/25/2004 11:07:58 PM Thanks to Jim Logan for the following. Today I happened to have the radio on a Talk Radio station in Edmonton, Alberta (the site of Backlash) and I caught an interview with Bill Goldberg. This radio station is mainly for the older adult crowd. It does not have shock jocks or anything like that. It is the station that broadcasts Edmonton Oiler hockey games. I was really surprised to hear Goldberg’s feelings toward the WWE. Read on for the scoop. The announcers were talking about Goldberg and saying that he is currently in Edmonton filming the movie Santa’s Slay. The announcers did not really seem to know who he was. They referred to him as an ex-pro wrestler who was in the WWE before he retired. They said they thought he was at Wrestlemania XX, but they did not believe he wrestled there. [ironically although he actually did participate in a match, I don’t think he wrestled either]. Thankfully they passed the interview on to someone else who conducted the phone interview with Goldberg. I took notes during the interview, so the text that follows is pretty accurate. Goldberg said: - Filming in Edmonton and area for Santa’s Slay ends Saturday. He said in the movie he plays the son of Satan who has been good for 1000 years, but decides it is time to create havoc and kill a bunch of people while wearing a Santa suit. He said it is like wrestling but it does not hurt as much. - The announcer asked if it was his first movie (Bill’s ego took a hit here) and Bill said it was actually like his fifth film. - Goldberg said he wants to do more acting since there are fewer tolls on the body. He said the pay is better for the difficulty of the work, and that he does not have to get beat up by 300-pound men. - He said he liked Edmonton. The people are great, the hockey is great, but it is too cold. - He was asked what his plans are from here. Goldberg said after he leaves Edmonton at the end of the week, he is going to Hawaii for a couple of TV projects, then he goes to LA to finish the last scene on Santa’s Slay. The announcer asked what his long-term plans are. Goldberg said he would take some downtime, look into more movies (but did not want to reveal projects since it is a jinx). Then he would do charity work and wrestle a bit in Japan. He offhandedly mentioned that the WWE is very restricting on his life and that he wants to get back to doing things that his WWE schedule would not allow. - He was asked if he would be at Backlash PPV in Edmonton. Goldberg said that he does not want to disappoint anyone in Edmonton, because they have been so great to him, but he would NOT be at Backlash. He clarified that his contract expired on March 14 and that he no longer works for the WWE. Then he said there are “not too many plans in re-signing”. He followed by saying that he is “done with the soap opera called the WWE”. He said he is not out of pro wrestling altogether. He still has a contract in Japan. He said when that contract is up he will re-sign in Japan. The announcer asked if he would re-sign with the WWE. Goldberg said “the WWE is SO ridiculous with the up-down swing. It is like being in a circus”. He said it was not an ideal situation working for Vince and the WWE and at this time in his life, he does not need to be around “all that stuff”. Then Goldberg went on about how he loves Hockey and how he has seen great hockey in Edmonton. He was asked what his favorite team was, but he said that he knows so many players on all the teams that he does not have a favorite. He said he just loves to watch a good game. They thanked each other and said goodbye. A very interesting interview. He was never pressured to answer any tough questions but he seemed eager to speak out on the WWE. I guess we will not see him in the WWE for a while.

OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 I'm going to have to side with the WWE here. They gave him a shitload of money. He got to hold the title. He didn't have to work a full schedule. What did he want? He probably wanted to go 173-0, which wouldn't really be fair to anyone on the roster. A long title reign? Learn how to put on a string of good matches first. More mic time? Learn how to talk without growling and snarling. I actually wanted him to succeed in WWE but not at the expense of them catering to his every whim. I would have liked to see him wrestle Undertaker, Angle, Benoit, Cena. I also think he'll be back at some point but hopefully he comes back more willing to work with what they give him.

They put him in silly comedy skits backstage, they exposed him in his first match with the Rock, as champion he got bested by Mark Henry over and over, they changed his music and at the end they were trying to force him to quit using his finisher. He has every right to rip the WWF for constantly putting him in situations where he wouldn't be successful.

If he doesn't like being exposed as the garbage that he is, maybe he should actually, y'know, work harder and try to improve himself. What a crazy notion! Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 They're filming in Edmonton? If this movie ended with Bret storming the set and putting Goldberg in a legit Sharpshooter, fading to black with him tapping and struggling, it would be a lock for Best Picture. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Doesn't sound bitter, and on the contrary sounded more professional that Brock's post-WMXX interviews. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 We thought he knew what he was getting into in WWE, too. Especially when from Day One their site had an "interview" with HHH where he specifically mentioned that there would be no 100-match streaks because "we don't have a talent pool deep enough to do that kind of thing." That was like the calm before the storm. Everybody saw it coming but him.

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 26, 2004 I've seen better ripping between a bunch of 2 year olds than this. As my new gimmick of complaining, this is really "eh" in the it should go in WWE folder. Sure it has A LITTLE BIT of talk on WWE, but Goldberg is not an employed worker for WWE. By this logic, old schoolers who do interviews with WWE talk that are posted in General and Old. School should go here too.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted March 27, 2004 Goldberg doesn't want to disappoint fans by telling them that he won't be at Backlash? If he enjoys acting, then good for him. I'm not going to pay to see a film just to see how he goes in it - I'll pay because I actually want to see it. How exactly did you want Bill Goldberg to be booked? His WCW gimmick would NOT have gotten over - hell, even the casual fans were starting to get sick of him after a while. I'm glad that he's done stinking up WWE rings - it's just a shame that he's now going to continue to do it in Japan. My extreme loathing for him aside, good luck for the future, Bill. (Maybe I'm just elated at him being gone).

Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted March 27, 2004 If he doesn't like being exposed as the garbage that he is, maybe he should actually, y'know, work harder and try to improve himself. What a crazy notion! OR... and here's a crazy thought... they could've booked him to highlight his strengths and not expose his weaknesses as much as possible. There's plenty of ways to make a guy look good besides feeding him consecutive wins over the entire roster. And this goes for everyone- they all should have their strengths showcased and their weakness hiddden. It makes a world of difference. Look how differently Big Show is percieved now since he moved to Smackdown and has been potrayed as a threat compared to when he was jobbing to Jeff Hardy on Raw. And for an opposite scenario, look how much more seriously RVD was taken back in the Alliance days when he was protected than since then when they've gone out of their way to expose him as much as possible, like those riveting "old school NWA matches" with HHH. And it really doesn't matter whether or not YOU like a wrestler, because making them all look good in their own way makes for a better show and better business. Only in wrestling will you hear people say "but Goldberg shouldn't be made to look good, because he really does suck and can't have long matches" or "why shouldn't RVD's opponents take out his legs for an entire match, if all he can do is legwork its his own fault because he sucks!" Some of you forget that wrestling is all about perception; its all smoke and mirrors. Nobody goes to a magic show and complains because they use props and slight of hand instead of actually having supernatural powers (I hope).

I was in a crappy mood, so I thought I'd watch what I thought could be an interesting bio. I figured it would be a positive look at wrestlers. Instead we got the beginning with Jesse wrestling (apparantly at monday nitro if you look at the crowd and the set) and collapsing in the ring. All the wrestling facts were way off, they had jesse being mad that some wrestler was screwed ala bret hart. when did that happen in the 80s/90s? That was the absolute worst bio ever. 300 POSTS YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA It's about time I joined 2 years ago when the smarks .com still exsisted and this site as such didn't.
