I'm gonna try and make this a weekly thing whether its Old School or New School, just picking a match randomly. Know any websites with any ****+ matches up? Either the Slegehammer or www.wrestlefury.com Specifically, I'd like to see any good stuff from 2000-2001. Any in particular? I'm trying to think of one to upload next week.

A few months earlier, I saw Perfect and HBK tear the house down in a 20-minute draw at my very first house show so I was psyched about this match. Since the title had always changed at Summer Slam, I was sure Perfect would be walking out with the belt. I was pretty pissed about the cop-out finish.

Aside from a couple of blown spots early on, the match really wasn't as bad as I'd heard (though Perfect probably could've sold the back a little more towards the end). About 5-10 more minutes and a clean finish and this match could've been a classic. Of course, seeing this match only makes me even more disappointed that they didn't get to do that World Title program in 96.

I just hated that the match was being hyped as The Greatest I-C Title Match of ALL TIME before it ever happened. HBK/Perfect were never given a fair shake at a great match with hype like that. Does anyone know why they went with the copout ending instead of having Perfect go over? I actually remeber liking HBK/Backlund at the Summerslam Spectacular more than the SS93 match, although I haven't seen HBK/Backlund in quite a long time.

Was it hyped that way on TV leading into the PPV? Outside of hearing Vince say it during the match, I'd never heard it. Also, if Perfect's back was bothering him, they probably just threw that out there banking on the possibility of a rematch between the two. Also, is it just me, or does Shawn look unusually big in that match? That's the heaviest I've ever seen him.

I used to have a tape of the SummerSlam Spectacular of that year and that was the way Ross/Monsoon hyped it. I seem to remember it being labeled as such as soon as the match was announced . . . but as always, I could be wrong. Yeah, Shawn 'bulked up' that summer. Good thing those tights stretch out plenty.
