Little Question

Recommended Posts

Guest MikeSC

Umm, that liberal talk radio network was supposed to launch in the next few days.

So, how's that going? Got any stations?

It seems to have fallen COMPLETELY off the radar.

-=Mike

...And I'm SHOCKED by that. SHOCKED!

Is this really necessary to start a new thread over?

There's one about it now?

-=Mike

...*scrolls down page* Nope, don't notice it.

Al Franken was on Letterman last week promoting it (or, his show, at least), so it's still out there. Sorry.

How many stations? It's a simple question. How many stations are they on?

Is it even in the double digits?

-=Mike

...Keep in mind: If the number was good --- they'd have hyped it a lot by now

Well, you said it fell completely off the radar and I was saying that it hadn't. I don't know how many stations it's on, Franken just spent most of the time making fun of O'Reilly and Limbaugh.

Is he still calling it the "O'Franken Factor" as if that's at all witty?

Which is ironic, since both of their audiences are mammoth when compared to his.

I seem to recall a thread on liberal talk radio. In any sense, starting a CE thread to say "nyeh, nyeh, nyeh" is kind of biting.

Hell, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a large audience out of fear. We've all seen what he does to people who disagree with him or his ideals.

Remember when he jumped that poor fuck at a Howard Dean speech?

This was supposed to be a big deal. It was supposed to be the answer to the domination of conservatives in this market. Many of us were poo-pooed when we mentioned that there is no market for liberal talk radio.

So, how is simply asking if they actually HAVE any stations for their launch that was QUITE bally-hooed back in January "biting"?

Yes, I fully expected it to fall off the map. No, I'm not surprised that the apparent failure of this venture has not been mentioned with quite the fervor as the planned launch was.

Here's a recent article on what they are up to

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,113873,00.html

ccording to that, it launches on march 31 in four major cities: NYC, LA, Chicago, and San Francisco. Not exactly a huge array of cities there, but they are major markets.

Personally, until they actually mention STATIONS, I'm not going to buy it.

They've lied before.

WLIB-AM in New York, WNTD-AM in Chicago, and KBLA-AM in Los Angeles

with San Francisco's station "yet to be named." according to Mediaweek

http://www.mediaweek.com/mediaweek/headlin...t_id=1000459204

repeat after me... Google is your friend. Google is your friend. Google is your friend.

edit: interestingly enough, both articles are from the same day, from a press conference call thing with reporters (like linda mcmahon does, i guess?), in which "they" apparently DID mention the stations, but I guess FOXnews forgot to include that information, which you were looking for.

Well, found their OFFICIAL web site (http://www.centralairmedia.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1) and ONLY those 4 stations are listed.

Four stations. If it wasn't so sad, I'd laugh. And Chuck D is an "on-air personality"? Yeah, I see THAT show being a bastion of witty banter. And he's siding with Liz Winstead, whose departure only led to the "Daily Show" becoming, you know, ACTUALLY FUNNY?

Janeane Garofalo in "The Majority Report"? The only thing she has to do with the majority is that the majority of people don't ever watch her movies or her TV appearances.

But in a tale of UTTER irony, they mention that Franken is going to a radio show and make fun of Rush's drug habit.

Hmm, somebody PIMPING Franken laughing about somebody else's drug habit?

Hasn't Al admitted to being a cokehead for most of the 70's?

if it is on in SF, then I can probably weakly pick up the signal from here in Sacramento. I wonder if it will broadcast over the net.....

^ well to answer your question also... (which also that took me 10 seconds in Google... Google is your friend Google is your friend Google is your friend)... this is from some Chicago Media Headlines site:

Asked about his feelings on the new lineup, Franken exclaimed, "I’m so happy that Air America Radio will be on in three battleground states - New York, Illinois and California. No, wait. Those aren’t the battleground states. What the hell are we doing?" Also, live real-time streaming of all programs, along with show archives, will be available at www.AirAmericaRadio.com...

The quote is just there cause I thought it was kinda funny.

"Al Franken is an ugly, obnoxious Jew and other stuff I noticed" > "O'Franken Factor"

Oh, a few weeks back Rush played some clips of Katie Couric pimping some upcoming story about a dude in North Dakota (or somewhere up there) who was supposed to be the next "challenge" to Limbaugh (I've seen him on Scarborough's show -- he doesn't seem that bad). Then when the story was actually broadcast later on the Today Show it turns out this guy only has a handful of stations. Now I know you're supposed to pimp a story later in the show, but to hear the hope and passion in Katie's voice was funny...

But in a tale of UTTER irony, they mention that Franken is going to a radio show and make fun of Rush's drug habit.

I'm nothing close to sympathetic towards junkies or Rush in particular over his drug problems.

But really, if he does do this, and it's just a full out assault on Rush for using drugs, than I don't really see how Franken's fans (especially those on the left) can really support him on this issue.

Because even to me that just seems petty and perhaps unnecessarily vicious.

The show isn't going to make fun of Rush's drug habit. The blurb mentioning his show makes fun of Rush's drug habit.

As for his habit, yes, it was wrong. Quite wrong. But I'll side with him here in his legal troubles as the prosecutor seems to be trying to make a career on this case.

Pay me as much as he's getting paid for this show, and I guarantee I can come up with something wittier.

Do you really have that much beef towards liberals Mike?

Damn, you could have just done a little research and you would have found out something about it. It took me 2 minutes, searching in Google, and I found the FoxNews article.

I don't claim to have all the answers.

Heck, as somebody already pointed out, they haven't even NAMED their SF affiliate yet, so it looks like THREE stations.

And I don't hate libs (I feel for them, to be sure). I just find it hilarious that those of us who commented that there is no market for this were poo-pooed when it was "announced".
