WWE SMACKDOWN HOUSE SHOW IN TAMPA, FLORIDA LIVE REPORT; INCIDENT WITH EDDIE GUERRERO'S FAMILY

I attended the house show in Tampa on Sunday 3/28. It was a fun show with a lot of energy. The Sun Dome was a little over half full. Here are the results.

The show started with Tampa native Torrie Wilson welcoming us to the arena. She said she was there to give the crowd a peek at what is inside the new issue of Playboy. Cue Commissioner Angle’s music. Angle threatens to fire Torrie if she doesn’t leave the ring. Instant heat for the new GM. Angle says that he promises to take Smackdown to new heights blah, blah, blah. Theodore Long’s music hits and out comes the ultimate player. Long and Angle trade compliments and Teddy says he’s here to scout the Smackdown talent and pick a few up-and-comers to take to the top. Then the first match of the night begins .

Paul London & Kidman v. The Bashams:

Lots of unique offense from London(let’s hope he doesn’t get the typical cruiserweight treatment forever). Kidman hits the shooting star press on Doug (or was it Danny?) Basham for the win. Nice opener.

Steve Madison v. Dennis Knight:

Two Bay area natives going at it in this one. Madison reminds me of Crash in both looks and style. Knight wins with a reverse DDT. As long as we don’t have to put up with naked Mideon ever again I can live with it.

Fatal 4-Way Cruiserweight Championship Match- Nunzio v. Spike v. Rey Mysterio v. Chavo Guerrero:

Really entertaining match that saw Rey pin Nunzio and Chavo pin Spike simultaneously. Chavo and Rey were then given the better part of ten minutes to really open it up on one another. Reminded me of the great Nitro Cruiser matches. Chavo eventually gets the pin on Rey but after the bell takes the 619 from Rey. Definitely the match of the night for me.

Mark Jindrak v. Billy Gunn:

Not a lot here really. Gunn looks to be slowing down to me. Or maybe Jindrak was just moving so much faster. In any event, Jindrak won with a modified Rock Bottom. After the match, Gunn moons the audience. I really could have done without that.

Orlando Jordan v. Charlie Hass:

OK match which saw a lot mat wrestling. Hass used the Hass of Pain but Jordan was able to do a reverse rollup for the pinfall.

Booker T v. Undertaker:

I keep thinking Paul Bearer looks as if he has just eaten Big Show. Taker basically squashed Booker in less than a minute. Tombstone piledriver, 1-2-3. Out come the Bashams and Dennis Knight. Chokeslams and more tombstones. Booker, welcome to Thunder…uh, Smackdown.

Tag Team Championship Match-

Scotty Too Hotty & Rikishi v. The Dudleyz:

Poor Scotty takes most of the offense. Rikishi makes the hot tag and clears house. Rikishi pins Bubba Ray with a Samoan Drop (how ironic).

John Bradshaw Layfield v. Shannon Moore:

Bradshaw is supposed to this rich Texas tycoon type, right? So why is he still sporting the APA tights? Squash match. Moore gets in minimal offense and Bradshaw hits the clothesline from Wall Street for the win.

U.S. Championship Match- John Cena v. Rene DuPree:

Cena is WAY over in Tampa tonight. DuPree didn’t bring Fifi the poodle to ringside. Maybe somebody warned him this was the same arena Matilda the bulldog was dognapped from way back in ’87. I still have nightmares about that angle. Cena hits the F.U. to retain the belt in about ten minutes.

WWE Championship Match- Eddie Guerrero v. Big Show:

After a quick ref bump, Commissioner Angle comes down to the ring to referee. Big Show hits a choke slam and nearly wins the belt after a fast count by Angle, but Eddie kicks out. Eddie hits the frog splash on Show but Angle refuses to count Show’s shoulders. Eddie snaps and Angle and the champ are going at it. Eddie knocks Angle out of the ring and the original ref climbs back into the ring to count the three after a second frog splash. Crowd is going loco.

Post Match: This is where it starts getting ugly. Eddie gets on the microphone and states that he has been a Tampa resident for seven years. Big pop. He brings his two daughters in to the ring to dance with him and somebody throws a soda into the ring, almost hitting the smaller of the two girls. Eddie says that the fan just showed his class. He tells the fan “God Bless, homes.” And Eddie and his children dance while his theme music plays. The cops are swarming the crowd looking for the idiot that threw the drink and they have him detained as the building is clearing out. The house lights come on and the crowd is starting to breakup.

After Eddie gets his children to the back, he comes back out. It goes from bad to worse now. The cops bring the idiot fan down to the ring (I have no idea why) and Eddie nearly jumps the rail going after this man (I don’t blame him one bit) and has to be restrained by a half dozen Hillsborough County Sheriffs.

Dean Malenko and a few security personnel are escorting Eddie away as the fan is put in cuffs and taken away. I really hope WWE prosecutes this bozo to the limit.

All in all, it was a very entertaining show and the talent really busted it in the ring (despite the poor turnout). No return dates were mentioned.

Kurt = greatest GM ever. Of course, she's an Ida-ho, and how the fuck is that Playboy issue "new?"

Steve Madison v. Dennis Knight:

Eh? Didn't even know he worked for them anymore.

Why's Spike in there again?

Orlando Jordan v. Charlie Hass:

OK match which saw a lot mat wrestling. Hass used the Hass of Pain but Jordan was able to do a reverse rollup for the pinfall.

Another pointless win for the vanilla OVW guy.

Booker T v.

Taker squash or Bob Holly feud. I guess pick your poison, Booker. =/

Ten minutes of Cena/Dupree?!

WWE Championship Match- Eddie Guerrero v. Big Show:

Eddie hits the frog splash on Show but Angle refuses to count Show’s shoulders. Eddie snaps and Angle and the champ are going at it. Eddie knocks Angle out of the ring and the original ref climbs back into the ring to count the three after a second frog splash. Crowd is going loco.

At least it makes sense that Angle's still got it in for Eddy. Although whether this is the next SD title feud or not seems to be a mystery right now.

I hate assholes like that who get so drunk they wanna be a part of the show. Eddy seems to be a major target for this: the run-in during that ladder match, the fan pouring beer on him, and now this. Geez...I guess it's probably a bunch of racist morons.

I'm betting it was the guy who was sporting the "Eddie Mows My Lawn" sign. Eddie REALLY has trouble when doing off Camera Show. Last time he chased a fan for spilling beer on him. Of course, Eddie was in the right, but it still was unprofessional. A Quick punch would've been enough.

Guys use to fight with the crowd all the time in the south. People are just spoiled today and think it's unprofessional.

Kudos to Eddy. If someone ever threw something like that [was it a bottle?] at my kids [well, if I had kids] there'd be hell to pay.

There's a lot of stuff that's done in the South that shouldn't necessarily be done. :P

Whether he's right (like this last one, where the guy hit his kid with a drink) or he's wrong (like when he went after the guy for pouring a beer on him) Eddie's got to realize that if/when he succeeds in pummeling someone for doing something, it's going to cost him his title, his push, and potentially his job. Let's say he punches the guy, and the guy gets seriously hurt, and then the guy sues Eddie, the WWE, the arena where it happened, etc. Even if the guy deserved it, in today's litigious society, he'll make a shit load of money and will cost the WWE a bunch of cash AND a bunch of bad publicity. Thus, the end of the Guerrero push.

Eddie should just learn to let the police handle things, and keep himself out of trouble.

It was probably a fountain drink, but either way that would piss me off as well. I hate hillbilly jackasses who try to become part of the show or attack wrestlers (or worse in this case, his kids) so they can go brag to their buddies at the dirt factory how they "almost beat up Eddie Guerrero". Luckily no one was hurt, but it probably scared his kids out of their minds.

The cops probably brought him down to the ring so Eddie could get a look at him.

The guy couldn't sue Eddie for anything!

Judge: Why are you sueing him?

Jackass: He punched me for throwing a soda at his kids.

Judge: a.....huh, case dismissed.

If anything he could sue the guards or whoever got him for bringing him to Eddie and letting Eddie beat the living crap outta him, but I really doubt he could sue Eddie.

Yeah, when there are judges out there that reward money from the stores for people dropping stuff on their feet, they'll dismiss that case.

I forgot, isn't Eddie the same guy who was on a ladder in Canada when a fan came in and shoved the ladder almost breaking his neck?

RVD vs Eddie was the match right when that fan ran in.

And throwing a soda at a child?!?!?! You gotta be a sick fuck to do that.

I read a pretty detailed report of the incident. Apparantly it was a beer cup thrown at Eddie soaking him in the process. I'm not sure if it hit his daughters or not. Everyone in the arena was ticked off at the perpetrator and wanted to kick his BUTT themselves.

Do you pay any attention to the news?!? Cases much more asinine than this go to trial all the damn time, and often end up in cash awards (or settlements). If people can sue tobacco companies because they were too stupid to realize that smoking was unhealthy, and drunks can sue bars for continuing to serve them when they're too drunk to drive, then this clown can sue Guerrero, the WWE and the arena and have a reasonable chance of winning. Especially if he's hurt in the altercation (hearing loss, missed work, head trauma, etc).

True story: a friend of mine from college snuck into a bar when he was underage (through a window) and proceeded to get overly drunk. Climbed on a table to act like a jackass, and fell and cut his arm on the glass that he was holding. Sued the bar for his injuries and won $25,000.00. If he can sue and win, why can't this guy that 'never meant to throw the cup, it was just slippery and slipped while celebrating with my favorite wrestler' (or some other crap excuse)?

LOL! Sorry, I have family in the South, and they're all hicks (I'm from Wisconsin myself)... I just couldn't resist this one. Can you really blame me?

Stuff like this has happened before. I'm pretty sure there was at least one similar incident in ECW. I remember a fan sued RVD and I believe won because RVD hurt him when he did a move into the crowd. Wasn't intentional, but he still made a lawsuit out of it. Supreme apparently beat the shit out of a drunk fan at XPW Night of Champions 2002.

Oh yeah he can sue, they sold beer to a minor. Should have carded him.

I know if they rush the ring, all bets are off because that falls under the wrestlers and assorted personnel defending themselves. However, I think unless they act violetly towards one of the workers they can't do anything if they stay in the crowd short of having them tossed.

Kudos to Eddie.Being a resident of Tampa you'd figure he could at least get some respect.

The cops should have let Eddie piss in his mouth.

To reiterate part of the story: He climbed in through a window. Once you're in the bar, it's believed that you've been carded at the door and thus you won't get carded once you're inside. So, the kid was illegaly in the bar when it happened. If that kid can win his lawsuit, then the person that Guerrero finally snaps and pummels can win his too.

I was at the show but I left and missed Eddie's celebration. A guy rushed the ring when they were throwing out t shirts and security took him out through the entranceway as well. I enjoyed the show but the crowd was dead during the Mideon match. Undertaker got the biggest pop because it was totally unexpected. Great show, great crowd.

Actually there are legal precidents as far as wrestling fans coming into the ring. Steiner and WCW got sued a few years ago for a medic hitting the ring and Steiner attacking him because he didn't know the guy was supposed to be there. WCW won the case.

Thats different though. It wasn't intentional but still you shoudn't jump into the crowd like that.....I miss the ECW days.........

Actually, it doesn't matter.

It is the responsiblity of the bar for your safety once you are inside. If you get up on the bar and they don't stop you, and you fall then it's their fault.

And the fact that he snuck in doesn't matter, it actually hurts them more.
