Non-Fans watched Shelton/HHH with me...

Recommended Posts

Well, here's what we saw:

Shelton looked likle a cocky badass, with cool mannerisms, smirks, and a nice moveset.

Triple H sold well for him.

-The match BEFORE the commercial was quite good.

-The match AFTER the commercial was mediocre at best. Restholds and slowness from Trips and dominance over Benjamin slowed it down, and it was quite frankly, boring for a while.

-The ending was pretty good. Would have liked to see Benjamin establish a "finisher" to upset Triple H with.

This is similar to Hurricane going over Rock last year...but with Benjamin, they actually have a plan for him.

Triple H gave him a hard-fought roll-up victory. He didn't really "put him over".

The match itself: ** 1/2

The non-fans really got interested in Benjamin. They even discussed his career at Minnesota when JR brought it up. They hated Trips, and EXPLODED when Benjamin upset him, because they knew he was an underdog, and the match made them like him. Kudos to WWE.

RAW also made us cheer for Tajiri against Kane.

My "smart" friend lost a bet. One of the marks claimed he'd bet 10 bucks that Tajiri would win. Haha.

Good RAW. Tag match kicked ass too, save for the shitty ending.

Hurricane pinning Rock was the biggest piece of shit ever. Not only did he need Austin and his music (lol), but NO ONE even cared he won, and the whole thing was Austin/Rock. Austins music kept playing until the end of the broadcast

Way to ut Hurricane over. ::blows raspberry::

I agree, Hurricane will never be bought as serious until he gets rid of the stupid gimmick. Benjamin obviously is quite different...and I'm excited to see where they go from here with him.

So is Shelton's new finisher the Stinger Splash? :P

Hey, he used a variation inverted DDT in the match too!

I thought it was a really cool finisher, myself.

Actually, way to take out Booker T - who had been advertised to face the Rock and was getting a world title shot at WrestleMania just a few weeks later - and put in the Hurricane in his place. No reasoning, no explanation given.

Had Booker won, it would have at least given him momentum for Mania.

The Hurricane's upset over The Rock was simply perfecting his (Rocky's) heel comedic craft, which worked in with build for Backlash, and not intending to put Helms over at all, which it didn't.

Shelton has the Superkick, which is neither established nor over - some work needs to be done there, if it's staying with him and/or a new finisher is being given to him.

Obviously, I haven't seen the match, so the commercial break work could've been off the hook.

I'm just looking forward to seeing it on Friday night.

I'm still waiting for Hurricane to drop the gimmick and become Gram Cracker Greg since he uses Greg as his name and not Shane anymore.

I actually agree with Scott Keith's ratings for once: I thought the match was about **3/4. It dragged at points, but the ending was good, and.....as much as I hate to say it.....having HHH tear up the locker room throughout the show actually had a purpose (other than just putting HHH over....again) as it made Benjamin's win actually meaningful.

The cynic in me half-expected the match to turn into a big double DQ schmozz, Shelton pull a swerve, join evolution and beatdown Benoit. I'm glad that it didn't, though.

I'm sort of half-hoping that HHH goes on a losing streak and Evolution bails on him, turning on him. The lack of heels doesn't really help out ths possibility.

Honestly as much as I hate Trips, he actually did well last night. For once I feel the WWE did right by having Shelton go over. They have a star in the making with Benjamin, and it's about time they realize it......

For the talk about Shelton's finisher...whatever happened to the Money Clip (which he used on Heat before debuting in Team Angle) ?

I can't remember what the move is exactly, but I remember it looked pretty good.

I think the Money Clip is now the Dragon Whip... you know, that spinning kick that JR had a coronary over but still managed to forget had a name, let alone two.

Make no mistake gentlemen, if they follow this last night will be remembered as the night that MADE Shelton.

Oh and Joe Dirt, I TOLD YOU in the RAW thread that HHH wasn't burying Shelton... I was right.

How can a guy have a finisher that relies on another person first CATCHING his foot and spinning him around?

A defensive finishing maneuever? Yuck.

Like Storm's Rolling Crab...fun to look at, but a bit contrived.

Benjamin's Superkick can't really be pushed to hard with Shawn Michaels on the same show (or can it?)

Whatever finisher he gets, he's a mat wrestler, so it shouldn't be too bad.

The Dragon Whip and Stinger Splash are both perfectly acceptable as trademark moves, not finishers.

Benjamin is a heel right now (to my knowledge), so let's hope that any finisher/s that they try to give him don't flop, ala Rodney Mack, D'Lo Brown, Mark Henry, etc.

And they definitely aren't the only ones.

Austin, Benoit siding with him...

HHH, Batista, Bischoff, Flair against...

A roll-up really does take away from the finish... though no established finish could benefit him as much as it hurts. Pedigrees, Stunners among other "3 times a show" kind of move gets boring and more than not, they get reversed. A solid moveset demanding attention for reversing to overcome is his most solid asset right now, but can only guess how long that will last.

After Monday, I hope they push Shelton hard as a face. I couldn't believe the hot crowd reaction for him. :D

Yeah because they always give the sucky finishers to the black dudes... WHAT IN THE HELL?

D'Lo didn't have a problem with his finishers anyway. The frog splash and Sky High were plenty good and no one had a problem with them.

For the first part, Booker T is an exception because of his status.

For the second part, you're right, but I'm referring to D'Lo when he returned as being managed by Teddy Long.
