LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Fargas is a decent RB. Him and Wheatley are both young (IIRC), and provide a decent one-two punch. Oakland seems likely to grab Clarrett, especially if he slips down to the third round. I'm not sure if they're going to spend that high second round pick on him. Fökai 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 But how long do we have for each pick? You may see me on but I'm looking at other things as well. 12 hours, unless you're browsing the forums while you're on the clock, which in that case you should choose quickly to move this along. On a side note, the current draft results will be updated on the first page of this thread (the very first post), so it will be easy to find.

Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 By the way, has anyone picked up the Titans, Panthers, or are there any other unclaimed teams? I'll pick up another team seeing as how I don't have a lot else to do (unemployment REALLY sucks). Edit: Well, since I don't know a whole lot about the Panthers and I can't stomach the thought of helping Bud Adams in any way (even a mock draft), I'll pick up the Dolphins. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted April 5, 2004 With the sixth pick in the 2004 TSM NFL Mock Draft, the Detroit Lions select... Steven Jackson -- Running Back -- Oregon State The Detroit Lions' showed promise the earlier parts of the season with their all-star rookie, Charles Rogers, was a threat but he soon was plagued with an injury that sidelined him for the rest of the season. The Lions' defense looked well last year with Boss Bailey, Shaun Rogers, Dre Bly, and to a lesser extent Terrence Holt (brother of All-Pro wide receiver Torry Holt). The only glaring concern that stands out is their running game or lack thereof. Olandis Gary? No. Shawn Bryson? Ehh. There has not been a true great running back for the Lions since Barry Sanders wore a uniform and this is a pick they need to make. Having an upcoming Joey Harrington, a future All-Pro Charles Rogers, and Steven Jackson added to the mix this is a offense... hell, this is a TEAM to look out for. Steven Jackson is said to be the most complete running back of the draft: his catching abilities out of the backfield is solid, he runs hard through the tackles and he is a franchise running back. The Lions have shown that they are enamored with Kellen Winslow, but Jackson is too good to pass up. Consider a smaller and just a tad faster version (because Steven Jackson lacks breakaway speed) of Ricky Williams playing in your backfield. The Lions' decided not to pass up on such an idea. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Flyboy, I am around for the next hour. So I will do a write up for my pick if you pick the Detroit pick before then.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 With the 7th pick in the draft, the Cleveland Browns proudly select, out of the University of Miami.....Kellen Winslow Jr. (TE) Last year, Steve Heiden led the Cleveland TEs in receptions with 18. Needless to say they could use an upgrade. In Winslow, they get arguably the best TE to ever enter the draft. At 6'3", 250 pounds he has the size to withstand the punishment of the pro game. And with a 4.5 40 he should be able to blow away any linebacker that plays across from him. There are some concerns about his character. He seems to have a short fuse while on the playing field. He seems likely to cause a couple of personal fouls over the course of the season. But we are talking about "15 yards every couple of games" type of baggage, as opposed to "using substances or being violent off the field and get suspended" baggage. His talent is enough to overcome that. After seeing the immediate impact that Jeremy Shockey had on the Giants and the NFC East, you can't turn down the chance to jump on Winslow who could be even better. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Wow. I am TOO good. I picked Steven Jackson for the Lions and I go and check Scott Wright's mock draft site (one of the best on the 'Net) and he has it updated saying the exact same thing. Remember, this is after I picked and he had just recently updated his site because I checked it earlier (around 6 PMish CT) and it wasn't updated.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 With the 8th pick in the draft, the Atlanta Falcons select... .. ... ... Mike Williams, wide receiver from the University of Southern California. The Falcons find a STEAL in arguably the best wide receiver in the draft, dropping down from a predicted "top three" spot to the 8th selection in this draft. Maurice Clarett may suffer from coming out prematurely for the draft, but Williams will suffer no ill effects with a position that relies more on speed than strength. Atlanta already has a strong wideout with Peerless Price (64 rec., 838 yards, 3 TD's) who will relieve some pressure from Williams - something he might not've had going to a team like the Raiders or Redskins. Price, who suffered last year from injuries around him (Warrick Dunn and Michael Vick) and the strong lack of a second option at receiver, will pick up his game this coming season to compliment a strong year from the Falcon's new draftee. Why not draft someone to plug the defensive line, you may ask? Atlanta are content with their defensive ends in Smith and Kerney, with a developing Will Overstreet eliminating the need for USC end Kenechi Udeze or Ohio State's Will Smith. The interior linemen may be a bit suspect, but new GM Rich McKay and rookie head coach Jim Mora, Jr. felt that a weak 2004 class will not address the need to their liking, opting to see how free-agent acquisition Rod Coleman (Raiders) will aid this area of weakness. Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 but Williams will suffer no ill effects with a position that relies more on speed than strength. Teehee. Mike Williams was rumored to have been at about a 4.75 in the 40 before he just got to a combine specialist last week. Read a good article on ESPN.com about that. Apparently, he's hoping to get around a 4.5 in the USC pro day workouts.

I didn't say he was overly fast - just that his position will rely on size and speed over strength and durability, instead of vice-versa, which is why Clarrett WILL struggle. On a side note, Mike is 2 1/2 inches taller than Roy, and 20 pounds heavier. I'd say that being a fan of guys like Terrell Owens and the like, I'd prefer the taller (and stronger) receiver. Gert T 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Taylor might drop due to those times, though. I could see the Skins grabbing a DE instead. I've seen Taylor all the way down at 17, which is retarded. IMO if the Skins don't grab the guy, the Lions will gobble him up. If Taylor fell down to the #17 spot, I would cry a river of tears of joy. I wish the Bengals would trade up for him, but I assume he goes no lower than that 6 spot.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 There's just about no way on Earth that Taylor would fall past the Texans at 10. I've even read reports that the Texans told Taylor as such. He apparently ran the 40 at Miami's pro day with a tweaked hamstring, which hampered his running ability. BTW a mock draft that had Taylor going at 17 now has him going to the Texans at 10. Can't remember which one though. CNNSI or something like that.

It's funny.. because in my New Orleans Madden franchise, I had drafted Sean Taylor and he's around 96 or 97 OVR. The Bengals had DeAngelo Hall who had become the best CB in the league and I traded Sean Taylor, a 90 or so CB that I had, and a first round pick to them just for Hall. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Ok, I am making the pick so we can get the CV 12 hour clock going. If APO gets in before CV, just go ahead and change this pick. With the 9th pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars select......Kenechi Udeze, DE, USC Debate raged about Roy Williams in this slot, but there is plenty of WR value in round 2. The Jags need a defensive end after the abortion that was the Hugh Douglas signing. They still have Jimmy Smith and Kevin Johnson to bide time until the develop a second round level WR. 16.5 sacks last year was just too much for the Jags to pass up on at this point.
