The Official TSM Mock NFL Draft

Recommended Posts

Just a note. Earlier I PMed CV and told him to just go ahead and make the Jax pick when he showed up again, since he has the Houston pick immediately afterward. This way it gave APO as much time as possible for a dead team without fucking up the timeframe.

I'm working on it, I'm working on it...

OK even though I don't really know what Jax needs, I'll go with the draft boards I've been able to find and go WR. And from the ones left....

The Jacksonville Jaguars select Michael Jenkins, WR, Ohio State.

The Houston Texans (and myself) are now on the clock. I'll make this pick in just a minute. Going to double check a couple of things then I'll finalize the pick.

This actually turned out to be more difficult than I thought. With the 41st pick the Houston Texans select:

Isaac Sopoaga, DT, University of Hawaii

Some talented DL's still out there but Isaac's size and especially strength make him an ideal fit at the nose tackle position should Payne get injured again. Plays good technique and is an excellent run stuffer. Plays low to the ground and doesn't get moved very easily. Should become a part of the DL rotation rather quickly.

Whew, I feel better now.

With the 43rd selection in the NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select:

Ben Troupe, TE Florida

This is a no-brainer for the Titans. I was ready to take Troupe with the 27th pick until Vince Wilfork fell into that pick. Troupe does not have all of the athletic gifts Kellen Winslow Jr. has, but I believe with his speed and great hands, Troupe can blossom into a pro bowl caliber TE. This pick helps the Titans as they got the best available player as well as drafting for need with the retirement of Frank Wycheck.

As the Bills sat in there draft room...they watched as the top two players on their list were drafted ahead of them.

That's Ok they thought...we have plenty of holes to fill.

With Troupe gone...we're not reaching for a TE.

With Henderson gone, the exact model of WR we wanted to grab, we'll wait to examine June 1st cuts...or see what falls into the next round.

That leaves us with two pressing needs. QB and G (since the top Center is already gone).

J.P. Losman is an interesting choice that we considered...but we'd rather take a big man than a project at this point. Losman may turn out great...but I'm not in favor of taking the best guy left in the second round...especially at the QB position.

So...with the 44th selection in the 2004 TSM Mock Draft...The Buffalo Bills select Guard Vernon Carey, Miami.

That's funny BPS, I had my top two choices were Troupe and then Vernon Carey if he was gone.

I think if Carey fell to the Bills that would be a great pickup for them.

The Raiders select Running Back:

Chris Perry from the Michigan Wolverines.

Granted the Dillon deal doesn't go through, this kid could certainly help fill the void left by Garner's election to leave the team.

His long ass pick kinda threw me, but if Carey wasn't there, I'd have picked RB or WR.

It's unfortunate that we decided to rush ahead on Easter, when hardly anyone (read: me) was available. I was actually going to do a nice write-up and analysis of this pick. But oh well.

In reality, I've been thinking about it a lot lately and if none of the top flight players are available for the Steelers in round one, I think they're gonna trade down to the late 20's and possibly take Carey in round one (they need a tackle; he projects to be just that in the NFL) and then snag Losman out of Tulane at 2.45 (or, now that I think about it, if they got the other team's second rounder as well, they'd take him there; Losman, contrary to this mock, has been rising).

The thing is, they'd never select a guard that projects as only a guard in the NFL. They're perfectly set with future HoFer Alan Faneca and recovering first round pick Kendall Simmons at guard, so...

...that pick kinda sucked. But oh well.
