Guest Flyboy
do you just want to PM me your top three choices?

That's what I'm gonna do later on because I know when it's time for me to pick I'll be in school.

With the 51st pick in the 2004 NFL draft, the Minnesota Vikings select....

7CDF6025-870E-4C04-8493-AEA54283D609.jpg

Marquise Hill, DE, Louisiana State

One of the most imposing figures on the Louisiana State team, Hill is a player with all the tools necessary to be a dominating defensive lineman at the next level. He has tremendous size and strength and continues to sharpen fundamentals. Marquise is a powerful pass rusher who simply explodes off the ball...he has a tremendous wing span and frequently bats down passes at the line of scrimmage. Started 24 of 38 games at right defensive end, recording 117 tackles (67 solos) with 10 sacks for minus-75 yards, 19½ stops for losses of 106 yards, 36 quarterback pressures, a fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, an interception and nine pass deflections.

DE is a need position for the Vikings. Last round I took the best player available because Tommie Harris is a damn good player and worthy of going much higher than 19. Had to take the DE this time, and I had Hill as a possible first round choice for the Vikes. It's a no-brainer to take him here.

With the 52nd pick of the Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select Derrick Hamilton, WR, Clemson

The Ravens need a WR, and he's also a very accomplished Kick Returner so he could at least return kicks next year, although the Ravens need a WR so bad I doubt that he would get the chance.

With the 54th pick the Seattle Seahawks select -

10944_256.jpg

Daryl Smith - MLB, Georgia Tech

OVERVIEW

Team captain who led the Yellow Jackets in tackles twice in four seasons … Steady performer in the middle of the field who moved into the starting lineup early in his freshman campaign … Rated one of the top linebackers in the nation coming out of college … Known for his durability and toughness, playing most of the 2002 season with a dislocated elbow … Started 44 of 46 games for Tech, recording 383 tackles (207 solos) with 15 sacks for minus-72 yards, 48 stops for losses of 123 yards, three interceptions for 89 yards in returns, 12 pass deflections, four fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles … His 383 tackles rank 11th on the school's all-time record list … His 48 stops behind the line of scrimmage are the most ever by a Tech linebacker and rank fourth overall behind Greg Gathers (57, 1999-2003), Coleman Rudolph (52, 1989-92) and Marco Coleman (50, 1989-91).

ANALYSIS

Positives: Has a compact frame with good overall muscle development, thick upper body and arms, good hamstrings and bubble … Will push himself to improve and gives total effort from snap to whistle … Flows to the ball with ease and has a nice feel to locate the pigskin in the open … Comes downhill well and has the strength to hold his ground vs. inside running plays … Plays with good knee bend and leverage to take on blocks … Can hold ground and shed blocks effectively … Uses his hands to knock the tight ends off their routes … Has adequate speed to run laterally and cut off the outside … Works best in the box, showing strength to wrap and secure as a tackler … Has natural hands for the interception … Shows nice timing on stunts and blitzes … Has the quickness to chase down plays and deliver a strong hit upon contact.

Negatives: While he has a nice feel to locate the ball, he hesitates some in his reads … Has good lateral quickness, but can get caught outside of himself when working in space (more comfortable playing in the box) … Needs to use his hand punch better to separate from blocks when redirecting through trash … Little too stiff in his hips to shadow the receiver outside the short area … Needs to get better depth in his pass drops and does not have the sudden burst needed to close … Shows strength pushing the pocket, but when he does not extend his hands, he can be caught up and sustained by the bigger blockers

Well with Sean Jones chosen, it makes sense to draft the best player available which also happens to be at a position of need.

With the 56th Overall Pick of the 2004 Smartmarks NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select

PICTURE_jlosman.gif

J. P. Losman, Quarterback, Tulane

Position: Quarterback

School: Tulane Green Wave

Status: Senior

Height : 6-3

Weight: 220

40-Yard Dash: 4.72

Positives: J.P. Losman has the physical attributes you want in an NFL quarterback. He has good size (6-3, 220) and strength, a very strong arm that can make all the throws including the deep out, and one of the quickest releases in all of college football.

Losman has decent agility, and good speed. He also has above average athletic ability. He can make plays with his feet and can throw on the run. He's a fiery competitor, a tough leader and can take a hit. He doesn't get shaken often.

Negatives: Losman doesn't set his feet real well, throws off his back foot often causing the ball to sail, and doesn't rotate his hips properly. At Tulane, he played mostly out of the shotgun and will have to adjust to playing under center. He tends to rush his throws at times and will force the pass too often. Sometimes tries to make too much happen by himself. Also needs to work on reading coverages a little better.

Projection: Tulane's J.P. Losman has everything NFL scouts look for in a quarterback, but he needs to polish his game a little, especially his footwork. He should be selected anywhere from the late-first to second round of the 2004 NFL Draft.
