Good to great undiscovered matches

Since a lot of us are hardcore wrestling fans here who are always looking for that match we don't know about, I thought it'd be a good idea to list good to great matches that nobody "knows about". In other words we're talking about rare matches. Feel free to list anything from Portland to Memphis to the WWF to WCW to NJPW to the AWF and any point inbetween.

 

I'll start off with a couple:

 

 

 

1)Chris Benoit vs Chris Jericho from the Pillman 98 show.

 

A match that had Jericho being the heel and Benoit being the face which doesn't happen too often. A nice ending stretch in this match with some fun countering and all for a good cause.

 

2)Bret Hart vs Hakushi Monday Night Raw from I think July 24 1995

 

A match that went longer and from memory was signifigantly better than the short PPV match. Bret Hart adapts and does his own innovative flying manuever to counter Hakushi's highflying spaceflyingtigerdrop (It's been a while. I think that's what Hakushi hit here). I can't think of a better singles match Hakushi had with anyone.

Hmmm....I'll pitch in Bret vs. Owen fron the 1st ever Action Zone. Match got ptetty good amount of time (flirted with 20 minutes) and was (at the time) the blow off match to the feud.

 

 

Austin vs. Mankind from the night after SSeries 96 also was an intense brawl that no one remembers, but it had a VERY lame finish.

Many of us know of it, but some newer fans might be unaware-

 

Smack 'Em Whack 'Em- Macho Man Randy Savage & Bret Hart vs Ric Flair & Shawn Michaels

 

GREAT Tag-Team Encounter with probably the 4 best wrestlers in the WWF 1992.

Actually I think it was Grudges, Gripes, & Grunts.

 

Smack em Whack em had the Hart/HBK Ladder Match and Hart/Flair Title Switch.

I've always been a big fan of the Randy Savage vs. Jim Duggan match from late 1989 for the crown in MSG. It was on CV's Mega Matches. Wasn't very good technically, but had good emotion, lots of energy, and a LOT of bumping by Savage. Plus, Sherri cheats her ovaries off in the match.

There's a really good Bret/1-2-3 Kid match on one of the Best of Raw type Coliseum tapes ("Raw Hits" maybe?). It's clipped a little, but its a really good match with the underdog Kid looking to upset Bret for the World Title.

There's a really good Bret/1-2-3 Kid match on one of the Best of Raw type Coliseum tapes ("Raw Hits" maybe?). It's clipped a little, but its a really good match with the underdog Kid looking to upset Bret for the World Title.

You can find it pretty easily on Kazaa or any file sharing system.

Damn. The match in full was a bit over 20:00, so clipping 15:00 is just gay.

Ric Flair vs. Brian Pillman, WCW Saturday Night (2/17/90)- I haven't watched it in a few years, but I remember it being damn good. If I remember correctly, that episode of Saturday Night was one of the highest-rated in history. Anybody else remember this match?

Just a great match by all 4 guys (Well, Neidhart did what he could) and the type of match you had NO idea who would win. Plus, Bret takes one of his finest plunges into the guardrail I've ever seen.

It's constantly ignored while the 10/16 finals match is widely praised (which seems odd since you really need to see the first match to get all the stuff they do in the second).

I'll say yeah because afterwards they showed his eyes and Bret looked gone. Plus, seeing Jimmy Hart frantically try to slap Bret awake was cool too. Finally, the MSG floor wasn't padded.

Indeed it is, and it's a fantastic match, certainly the only reason to watch an otherwise dreadful tape.

 

On WrestleFest 93, there's a good Shawn Michaels vs Virgil match for the IC title. Of course, the finish is in no doubt, but Shawn gives Virgil plenty of offense and it's certainly a ***+ match.

God, I wish it was. Battle Royal featured a load of diabolical matches. The Rockers lost to the Nasty Boys and the only Rougeau presence was in the worst match of the night, Texas Tornado vs the Mountie.

 

Best two matches on that tape:

Ric Flair vs Tito Santana and Legion of Doom vs Power & Glory. Somewhere in the archives of the Fantasy Booking and Columns folder is a review I did of the tape... it wasn't a great show.
