The nationally televised game between the Red Sox and Orioles Sunday night was the most-watched regular season major league game in ESPN2 history.

The game between Boston and Baltimore drew a 1.9 national rating, up 36 percent from the network's previous opener in 2002.

he ratings did not include the Boston and Providence markets, which carried the game on local TV. Still, nearly 2.2 million people tuned in for baseball's first game of the year played in the United States, five days after the Yankees and Devil Rays opened the 2004 season in Japan.

The Orioles' 7-2 win drew a 1.8 rating among men aged 18-34, the highest for that demographic of any regular-season major league telecast on the network.

Im betting a good majority of the number was from Baltimore though.

Stupid Comcast Sportsnet didn't carry the game.

and its still 3-1 into the 6th. Schilling is close to 90 pitches..hopefully they can get him out of there and get to the bullpen.

are you kiddin, wat did the Os did last year... not much... it was probably more watch in Boston

From ESPN's front baseball page:

Jamie Moyer, 41, isn't quite a graybeard yet for the Mariners.

There are three over-40 starters who figure prominently this season, Phil Rogers writes. Two are Opening Day starters. Jamie Moyer in Seattle and Randy Johnson in Arizona open today. Roger Clemens makes his NL debut Wednesday.

What is with Johnny Damon and crashing into his teammates? Has the guy ever heard of the phrase "I got it!"? I'm surprised he didn't put his hand on Millar's face and scream "HEAL!!"

It would have been blacked out on ESPN2 because NESN had it, so everyone in Boston had to watch it on NESN.

Damon collided with Millar and took Millar out of the game.

Its still 3-1 going to the 9th.

I wish I could see the Red Sox games....every game seems to be on NESN this year which we dont get in CT anymore.

I know. I was kind of interested in checking the game out, but I obviously can't get NESN. Damn tease, because it shows up on my guide.

Edit: Fuck, it was on ESPN2?

Oh yeah, Jays/Tigers tonight at 7 eastern on Sportsnet~!, I can't help but root for the Tigers if only for my ever-growing hatred of the Blue Jays. It's always fun to watch an underdog team that has absolutely nothing to lose just to see how many wins they'll get.

I'm glad Extra Innings is free today. Some good games.

Too bad its I'm too poor to afford it. But, Fox Sports Ohio is showing 100 Reds games this season, so I'm happy.

Well not always but last year the Tigers got to rock bottom and maybe even deeper, they made a few significant changes, so to me it's interesting to see exactly how much they've improved and how many wins they'll get.

Dimitri Young is down painfully. I would make new plans if you are counting on him for your fantasy squads.

Huh, What happened?

It looks like an ankle injury. He slipped on the way to second base trying to avoid a tag by Orlando Hudson.

This is batting practice for the Yanks.

This is what people imagined when they saw that batting order.

You'll love them even more when half of them are in the hospital by June.

Must you be a bearer of bad news?
