While The Simpsons movie is already being written, Yeardley Smith (the voice of Lisa Simpson) recently told the Associated Press that the movie won't happen until the show ends. According to Smith, the show will go on for at least two more seasons and that the movie is at least three years away.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Excuse me while I sign out of and back into MSN Messenger Service... ... Well, that didn't work, I've seen it today before, excuse me while I now go to the website... ... Well, I can't seem to find, but it was basically a more in-depth look at it. If I find it and it hasn't been already, I'll be sure to post it.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 I bet the movie will be one of the worst things you could imagine.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Why do they keep telling us this. The movie being released after the series ends has been the story for several years now. We get it cast and crew, y'all don't have to keep reminding us. I'll still be interested in the movie whenever it's released.

EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Hell at this point in the show's run they might as well let the characters age and grow up. You know Bart and Lisa go into high school, gets new teaches, learns to drive, deal with having sex, Grandpa passes away, etc. Cause they've done all they can and at least this would open up some fresh, new stories. I mean it can't be any worse then the crap they have now.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 The problem is who would care about these characters has adults? Lisa would just be some 20 year old liberal activist. That's a big Yawn. Not that I like the character, but at least it's somewhat funny an 8 year old girl is supposed to be the smartest character on the show.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 I mean it can't be any worse then the crap they have now. Yes it can. Look, as bad as the show is, you can't make radical changes like that. That would make it an entirely different show. For one thing, they're the same age for 15 years, then all of a sudden they decide they're not anymore? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Eveyone will say "Yeah, the Simpsons was great, too bad they ruined it by having them get old." I remember a while back there were a few people who thought they should kill off Marge. Idiots. This is just basic tv stuff, that shit doesn't work. The problem isn't that they have no new ideas or situations, so they need to change everything to get new ones. It's that the writing is bad. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Well, if its anything like the Nadesico movie where they did age the characters and have major changes, it'll suck. But then, I hate the Simpsons anyway(ducks for cover 'cause he knows he's gonna get everything and anything chucked at him)
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 There's seriously no point of ever starting a Simpsons thread on this board, because regardless of the topic, it almost always turns into "discussion" on how bad the show supposedly is now.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Bad time to say that, Bruiser. This one's more of a "how to make it worse" discussion, and there's another Simpsons thread right under this one that's all positive.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 It's only been around for four hours. Give it some time. Even the most positive Simpsons thread usually end up having stuff about how it sucks now sprinkled throughout.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 I can't really say the Simpsons "sucks" now since I don't watch it anymore. I stopped around Season 12-13 when it just got really bad and the episodes just weren't funny anymore. I liked it when the Simpsons was more of a show that had a nice uplifting ending and you felt good at the end of it. Now they just seem to try and cram as many pop culture references into one show. It seems like every episode now revolves around Homer doing something stupid and it got old after a while. I don't know if the show has gotten good again (I watched the England episode and it was hilarious) but the show sucked badly enough for me to stop watching. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 It has been on an slight upturn lately. This season was a little better than last, which was a little better than the one before it. I don't watch nearly every episode, but that's the impression I'm getting. Here's a good idea for a movie... not a musical.
Guest Brian Report post Posted April 9, 2004 It's been better this season than it has the last two or three years, which all seemed like a rather quick slide downhill.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 The film could have a shocking swerve ending where the world of the Simpsons is actually an alternate Earth that "real" humans discover at the very height of whatever comically ludicrous plot develops. The "real" person, who would be Matt Groening himself, would just wonder how in the hell such a place exists and why no one ages, people so stupid are somehow still living, etc. Treehouse of Horror VI(?) foreshadowed it... I think they should never say where Springfield is though. I imagine it being in Texas, myself.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 9, 2004 I don't think that they could go wrong with a movie... I mean, they won't pull a WrestleMania XX on us, will they? You have to wonder what they'd do in the (a) film though - I mean, they wouldn't be able to have the same approach as in the show, and without that, it just wouldn't be the same. Fökai 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 I think they should never say where Springfield is though. I imagine it being in Texas, myself. Well, the origins of Springfield come from.... "Springfield" is a fictional location. One more time for the world: "Springfield" is a FICTIONAL location. It is not in Illinois, not in Massachusetts, not in Southern Missouri, not in Northern Kentucky. MG says he chose the name because it is one of the most common city names (121 Springfields exist in the U.S.) and the setting of the antithesis to The Simpsons, Father Knows Best. Indeed, from Groening's childhood perspective, Springfield was "the next town over" from his home in Eugene (a suburb of Portland), Oregon. On a side note, L.I.S.A. reader Mark adds, "Eugene is a wildly liberal town. Springfield is a staunchly conservative one, further accenting the difference. Also, there is a cemetery in the middle of the University of Oregon (Groening's alma mater) that has a statue of soldier whose head was cut off as a prank by college students. The prank was universally condemned." (Sound familiar? See 7G07). According to Producer/Director David Silverman, Springfield is in the state of North Takoma, eight miles from Toon Town (although it appears this still isn't to be considered an "official" answer). In Duffless, the state abbreviation on Homer's driver's license is NT - NT probably representing North Takoma. See next question. The bottom line, though, is that even when the series makes reference to places and events unique to a specific Springfield, it does not mean that the series takes place in that given state. According to some sources on the group, Matt Groening has said that although Springfield is basically "anytown USA" it does have features somewhat similar to towns in Oregon, where Matt grew up. Read Where Is Springfield? if you're still not convinced.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 I think -iB- just wanted to do that annoying-as-shit bold/italicize thing. Anyways, I imagined it being in Texas when one of the episodes had Jimbo and his crew (or was it Snake?) leaving town after stealing something and a sign said "Mexico City: 700 miles" or something. Anyways, I imagined it being in Texas when one of the episodes had Jimbo and his crew (or was it Snake?) leaving town after stealing something and a sign said "Mexico City: 700 miles" or something. Not to mention Homer and Flanders got to Vegas in less than a day. If they had driven from Oregon, Mass or Illnois then I'm sure it would have taken more than a day.
