nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2005 "Yank Aaron" Aaron Boone "The Giambino" Jason Giambi "The Syanara Kid" Hideki Matsui "Bern Baby Bern" Bernie Williams "The Sandman" Mariano Rivera I hope you made those up. I know, those things sound like a group of 11 year olds sat around and made up "funny" nicknames ... and these were, probably, the best of the bunch. Personally, I'm still waiting for a nickname to match up with The Chairman of the Board. I feel like a dick for questioning something from like 10 months ago, but how can that one be the best when I have no fucking idea who it's referring to?!? Wouldn't the best one have to be, you know, well known or somethign?
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2005 I know it as Frank Sinatra. I don't know which baseball player it applies to. "Yank Aaron" sounds like gay porn. "The Giambino" is an insult to Babe Ruth. Forget Jason and his performance-enhancing drugs. Babe Ruth was on performance-reducing drugs and he's the best player ever. "The Sayonara Kid" sounds like what an announcer from the 1930s would call him (probably being interchanged with "that scrappy Jap"), but it's a moot point because Hideki Matsui is like 34. And even if he isn't, he looks 34. "Bern Baby Bern" is stupid. You suck

The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2005 Yeah, those are terrible. And, in the category of "Nickname That Is Cooler Than The Guy It Names", I enter: Joe Randa - "The Joker"
Vasarian_Brandy 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2005 I love "The Human Rain Delay", but he was also just called "Grover". A little Cleveland flavor: "The Thomeinator" Jim Thome "Baby Bull" - Manny Ramirez Albert "Don't Call Me Joey" Belle "El Presidente" - Dennis Martinez "The Bulldog" Orel Hersheiser "The Game" Milton Bradley (though that's just false advertising...) And the coolest name that's not a nickname... Coco Crisp! In the catergory of "I'm surprised these haven't been mentioned yet": "The Wizard of Oz" Ozzie Smith "Super Joe" Charbeneau "The Yankee Clipper" Joe DiMaggio (Or "Joltin' Joe") There's several more, but here's a couple cool links I found courtesy of the Baseball Almanac: Best Nicknames in Baseball History by ESPN on Baseball Almanac Hall of Fame Full Names & Nicknames by Baseball Almanac

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2005 (edited) Not that Jim Thome isn't a great hitter, but Thominator is just horrible. Gettysburgh Eddie Plank is underrated. There needs to be a base stealing, American Indian, with the nickname Sliding Bull. Edited March 2, 2005 by Vern Gagne

Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted March 2, 2005 Who in their right mind would name their kid after a board game company? Who names their kid after a breakfast cereal? His real name is Cavelli Crisp. I was thinking the same thing until someone told me that a while ago. The two funniest names that aren't flat out silly like "Spooneybarger".
