Guest glennsoe Report post Posted April 14, 2004 I just saw "guilty as charged 2000" from Ecw on dvd and i was wondering why the bookers at wwe haven't given Nunzio a name change lately ?? I mean James Maritado (Little Guido) came into the wwe as Jamie Noble's "cousin" but he quickly parted ways with Noble and gathered up with a second rated "wwe version of F.B.I) When he started the F.B.I in the wwe, wouldn't it serve it's purpose to "take back" the name "Little Guido" ?? It was his name in Ecw when he had the much better version of the F.B.I So...I was wondering which "storyline" would you give Nunzio so that he can "go back" to the name Little Guido ??? Maybe have Paul Heyman gather up some "ex ecw" guys and start somehing "new" (a stable maybe) and give him his "ecw name" ?? Botton line is; Nobody is going to take James Maritado seriously when he goes by the name of Nunzio....The man is a world class wrestler and I've read that Vince digs the character, so there are hopes for the "Guido fans worldwide" !! - Glenn -

Aero 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 I don't mind Nunzio so much, but I wouldn't be disappointed to see him go back to Little Guido.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 Just have the ring announcers call hime "Little" Guido Nunzio for a couple weeks, then just drop the Nunzio.
Guest netslob Report post Posted April 14, 2004 huh, when i saw this topic, i thought they were going to change his name again...glad i was wrong. nothing wrong with Nunzio...in fact, i always thought that they changed it to avoid pissing off Italians...some Italians consider "Guido" to be an ethnic slur. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 If he'll never be taken seriously as Nunzio, how is he supposed to be taken seriously as Little Guido, which sounds dumber. Then again, Nunzio's a comedy wrestler. Still, Nunzio sounds cooler than Little Guido or James Maritato
Guest Jimbo Report post Posted April 14, 2004 Never understood the name Nunzio. How is that redneck'ish again?
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 they could always have someone buy the naming rights for his ring name
yankovic fan 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 I think ECW had more leeway with racier type names since they weren't in as much mainstream spotlight as the WWE. WWE may be scared of an Italian backlash of having what can be considered a slur for his wrestlers name. Then again we had a white wrestler with the word "Honkey" in his ring name... Guest JMA Report post Posted April 14, 2004 I would rather have Billy Gunn change his name. It won't make him better in the ring or anything; the name just sucks.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 14, 2004 The name Nunzio doesn't sound as moronic as "Little Guido". Why not go back to calling The Big Bossman The Boss ot The Man or The Guardian Angel.
griffinmills 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 they could always have someone buy the naming rights for his ring name So far Rob E Dangerously is the only one to even try, and he came up with quite a decent answer if a bit funny. They could try having him claim that Nunzio was Nobles nickname for him and he is fed up with it. Or do the Bradshaw with it and move it to middle name status then slowly just drop it. I don't think the "My real name is X Y!" speeches generally go over very well (although the only one I can remember off the top of my head is Big Bossman trying to become Ray Traylor on Nitro) although I can only speculate as to why (they come off kind of whiney/needy?) With Sakoda (Akio?) he just showed up 24 hours later with a different name but he was definately lower profile than Nunzio. Maybe it is his "mob name" and he gets kicked out of the FBI and has to drop it? Or a different twist on that in that he wants to leave the FBI and the name has too many bad memories. Or he could jump into a gimmick so over the top that nobody really questions it (sort of like the Hurricane except no secret identity.)

griffinmills 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 maybe he could go into the "Witness Relocation Program" Oh man that could be pretty funny, with the real FBI telling him how he is all set up with a new home and stuff but Vince McMahon screwing everything up by intimidating the officers and enforcing Nunzios WWE contract appearances. Ring announcers telling everyone where his new home is and having to change it every week etc. Sure it would never happen in "real life" (FBI would take care of Vince pretty easy no?) but Vince would probably love to do it to get a little revenge on the federal government (see Ted, Billionaire for Vinces love of "revenge".) Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 For what its worth, I've never stopped calling him Little Guido. If he was to change his name back, I don't see how an explaination would be necessary. I don't think anyone assumed "Little Guido" was his birth name to begin with, so what's the problem? It won't happen though, because Guido can be taken as a slur as was said and ECW used to push their luck a lot more then present day WWE does. Just look how the Acid Drop became the... sigh... "Dudley Dog".
Scroby 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Most likely because WWE own the rights to Nunizo and not little guido.

Guest Jimbo Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Thought Little Guido was owned by ECW, which is now under WWE's control as whenever Maritano went around hte indies, he went by his real name, not hsi FBI sctick. The FBI stuff came up in RoH where he was working with Mamaluke as he was never referred to by anyone as Guido, even when getting really in depth into the history of the FBI and who would carry on its legacy (since that's what they were fighting for).
