Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Didn't see a thread for this and I'm not searching through the numerous baseball threads. It deserves its own anyways. Its been talked about on ESPNews all day that the governor of NJ is unhappy with the Nets leaving for Brooklyn and thus the state only having one team in the Devils(technically they do host the Jets and Giants but they're labeled as NY teams so I guess he doesn't count it). So he wants an MLB team in NJ. The governor said that if the Expos are to be moved they should be brought to NJ where they will thrive. Well one person isn't happy about this; George Steinbrenner. He said he will do everything within his power to keep a team from going to NJ. I like the idea personally. The Expos would remain in the NL East and Georgie Porgie's spending would have to go down since the people of NJ would have their own team. The NY/NJ area can deffinately field two teams in the same sport, I mean look at the Rangers/Islanders/Devils of the NHL, the Nets/Knicks of the NBA, and the Giants/Jets/Bills of the NFL. This would deffinately be a good move for baseball.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Why don't they fucking support the two teams that are already there. When the Nets and Devils are trying to get the hell out of their due to lack of support then why would an MLB team want to come here. Geez they should use some common sense. TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 The Bills don't count, they aren't a metro area team, they're all the way upstate. This would not work. The Yankees and Mets have generations of fans in the NY/NJ/CT areas (I myself am a third generation Yankee fan). The Expos would not be able to just grow a fanbase out of thin air, especially with those two teams within shouting distance anyway.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 15, 2004 (edited) Yes, George is an evil man and yada yada blah blah blah. If they move a team into New Jersey, they should put a team in Springfield and see how John Henry reacts. Edited April 15, 2004 by Anglesault
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Springfield? Since when is New Jersey a city in New York. That's what your comparrison says. It would be like moving the Expos to Conn, which is no big deal since most Conn baseball fans like the Yanks. Mass is the only New Egland state however that can afford proffesional sports teams. People of New Jersey end up wanting a baseball team and they're denied based on the fact that it hinders George making $300 mill a year...now he only makes $200mill. They would be in the NL East so it doesn't hurt the Yanks as much as it would the Mets, and the Mets have yet to release a statement on the whole thing. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 15, 2004 It's not within the state, it's x number of miles from the stadium, or at least that's what I've been lead to believe.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 It's not as if New Jersey could go through everything that we would have to go through to land the Expos by next season. You would need some sort of vote I'm sure, public approval, and oh yeah, a stadium. It's more likely the 'Spos are still playing a split Montreal/San Juan schedule in 2005 then be in NJ any time soon anyway.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 15, 2004 I think it would satisfy NJ if they renamed the Mets to the New Jersey Mets. Why the hell do so many cities need multiple teams?
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 I think it would satisfy NJ if they renamed the Mets to the New Jersey Mets. Why the hell do so many cities need multiple teams? Because there are almost as many people in the New York City area as in our entire country.

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 15, 2004 What's next? New York complaining that they don't have an NFL team? They're building a stadium for the Jets in NY. When that's done they should change the Giants name to The New Jersey Giants. I don't care how upstate it is, Buffalo is a part of New York...so stop leaving out the Bills before you make BPS cry. Because there are almost as many people in the New York City area as in our entire country. Last time I checked, New York has what, 8-10 million or so people living in it... in a country of 300 million, that statement isn't even close. And Los Angeles, the second-most populated city, has ZERO NFL teams. And one shitty ass baseball team. No the Angels don't count, they are in Anaheim, that's a whole different county. And what is it with Las Vegas having no professional sports teams whatsoever?

Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Where would they put a team in NJ? They wouldn't put it in north Jersey, since the Mets & Yankees would overshadow them. Put it in central or south Jersey, and you'd have competition with the Phillies and/or Orioles. I can't see it happening.
the max 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 There's no need for another team in that market. Move Montreal to San Juan and be done with it.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Move the Expos to Joisey and the Mets to Suffolk County. And get rid of the Yankees! /just kidding

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Maybe instead of moving the Expos to NJ, they could just build a stadium there and have the Mets and Yankees play 20-30 games a year there. Maybe that'd appease the fans of NJ. And, yes, I'm kidding.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Move Montreal to San Juan and be done with it. Or just contract them, along with Tampa. You kill two birds that way, and avoid the complete oversaturation of the NY/NJ market. Of course, that is pure fantasy. Might Salt Lake City be a decent home for a franchise? I think they support the Jazz pretty well, right? Certainly couldn't be much worse than some other markets baseball's currently floundering in.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 New Jersey deserves a MLB team like LA deserves an NFL team. Meaning, they don't. New Jersey has the Yankees, Mets and Phillies all within driving distance of them. If they want baseball, go to one of them.

Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Yeah, Angelos would be ecstatic if they moved to NJ, because that would keep them out of his backyard (i.e. Northern Virginia, who DOES deserve a team).
