Styles 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I'm shocked that Vince and Austin couldn't work out a compromise. Last week's Observer said that Vince and Austin were still on good terms and it was just a matter of outside projects and who gets the rights to them. Then the Torch published an update that said they reached an agreement that involved Austin getting control of his outside projects but he'd have a reduced role on TV as a result. I guess that didn't work out. Throw me in with the "he'll be back by WMXX1" crowd. Oh, and Austin to TNA will NEVER happen. Jarrett basically created TNA because him and Austin hate each other so he knew he wasn't welcomed as a result in WWE. Plus, Austin wouldn't want to piss off Vince like that. He's leaving basically on good terms and will be back, and he wouldn't be stupid enough to screw up his potential for return...

Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Well, now they have the problem of how to keep the heel GM in place, which is what the "sheriff" job essentially was. Maybe Foley will take it over after the Orton issue is done?
Adam 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 I'm not glad he's gone at all. I'm a mark for the guy, I can't help it. I don't like most of the stuff that he has done in the past year, but I still enjoy having him on my TV screen. I hope he comes back.

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Thank you, God. Styles 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 [email protected] WWE.com reported earlier today that Steve Austin was no longer with the company. While the news is three weeks old, the web site report does have significance because negotiations between the sides broke down today. It is expected that Steve Austin will be joining Bill Goldberg with Pride's Hustle series. Austin and Pride have been negotiating for a while and earlier this week were very close to a deal. Pride has pro wrestling events on 5/8, and again in July. It is not confirmed yet if Austin will make the 5/8 date but that was being talked about. Austin and Goldberg in PRIDE? Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Look, I wouldn't be shocked if this is either a work or a negotion ploy by the WWE to show Austin that'll play hardball. Austin makes a tremendoues amount of money for Vince in merchandising and wether or not he'll ever wrestle again the prestige he'd give to another rival fed would be tremendous even if it's in a non-wrestler role. Vince needs to keep Austin around in a limited capacity to pop the live crowds and for special circumstances like with the Rock. I think it'd help House Show sells if it were to become known that Austin would be only on house shows not tv for awhile, it'd give it alot of prestige. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2004 The problem is that Austin loves being on live TV. So I don't think he would like just doing house shows.

When Bisch was the sleazy asshole GM when he first started, he was a joy to watch and was far more likable than Steph--even getting pops over her on SD. When he became a lame-ass generic heel he wasn't as much fun to watch. Now he shows more personality, but isn't as delightfully asshole-ish as he was back then. Guest JMA Report post Posted April 17, 2004 It's kinda weird that Bischoff is in WWE but Austin isn't. That's just...surreal. Although it's not as surreal as the first time Bish was there and Austin wasn't. Austin deserves respect for putting on great matches and greatly helping the WWF. But his wrestling career is basically over (unless he pulls a Shawn Michaels). The fans don't want to see him as some crappy authority figure who beats up mid-carders. He also needs to take care of the problems in his personal life. It's better both for Steve Austin and WWE if he stays away for several years.

If Austin can pull himself together physically and personally and bring himself back as a wrestler great. Or if he was so inclined and went what old WWF's wrestlers did when they careers in the ring stopped and stayed with the company as Road agents officials or even commentators thats good too. But Austin just coming out for every other segment just to talk or stun someone and wander away that is kinda pointless except for keeping his marks interested in the show. He had potential written all over him. Remember that string of **** matches he had in 1994? You don't? Me niether.... Owen Hart, for one. Rumor had it that Austin said he'll never work with the guy after SS'97. To be honest, I don't hate Austin, I just don't like what he's become. Their was a time when you could call Austin a success story; he was the wrestler who WCW kicked out, only to rise to greater heights in the WWF than most wrestlers can ever dream about. But after he left the company and had those charges brought up his image became tarnished. And when he returned he did little to regain that legacy. He became an eyesore, and if he wants to leave, that's fine. Just don't expect the same level of support he got last time.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 17, 2004 Apart from the odd funny segment, Austin is very annoying in a position as an authority figure, i.e. Co-GM, Sheriff. The only reason that he was on Raw in this position was for ratings, plain and simple - but I don't see how he would be such a giant loss when not wrestling. If he were to return, I want it to be as a wrestler, not as an authority figure, because he's just not cut out for positions like he was given. And I've said it before, but what's the bet that in 7 months, he'll return, ala February 2003?
