Enigma Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Kenzo Suzuki, Japan's answer to Sid Vicious (i.e. he sucks ass).
Guest Deviant Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Oh god, it's Suzuki?!? I don't see Raw until Friday, so can anyone upload the vignette, much like you kind folk uploaded the Mordecai bit for those who had it editted? Thanks in advance.
Guest JMA Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 I'm starting to think Bradshaw is on the booking team.
Vyce Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Maybe he can cut "great", "outstanding" heel promos about how America deserved Pearl Harbor. Seriously, I'm not much in favor of bringing this guy in, but if you're going to bring new guys in, can an effort be made to at least NOT give them the shittiest gimmicks they can find?
dubq Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Kenzo Suzuki, Japan's answer to Sid Vicious (i.e. he sucks ass). Based on what? His crappy stay in TNA? That's hardly what you should judge someone by. See some of his matches with Tenzan and you'll know that he's no where near Sid's level of "suck."
notJames Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Is it definitely him? Did they actually show him in the vignette? I only caught the tail end of it where they showed his name. Some have speculated that it could be Kendo Ka Shin, who has also been making appearances here and there. Any confirmations?
Open the Muggy Gate Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 The video apparently says he hasn't forgotten WWII when the U.S. bombed Japan or something like that. I don't know. Either way, he's the "EVIL FORIGENER", so we will about a million "USA" chants for all this.
notJames Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Welcome back to the xenophobia of the late 1980's! I gather his first opponent will be Sgt. Slaughter, followed by Jim Duggan, and then his first PPV match will be against the Narcis... I mean, the All-American murder suspect Lex Luger. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
dubq Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 I have no problem with the Evil Foreigner gimmick. Let's be realistic. Would the average WWE fan even accept a Japanese wrestler with limited English skills as a babyface? Doubtful.
notJames Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Two words: Ta Jiri They loved him when he debuted. His crazy skills won over the crowd more than a thousand vignettes could have. Plus, his few-and-far-between Japanese promos were pretty well received if only for the sheer novelty of them. I'm sure having Regal as his straightman helped a lot, but the guy had something really great going before he was regulated to Midget Purgatory.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Evil foriegner gets good heat all the time. The first time La Resistance came out to the arena... you heard the boos and the "USA" chants. It's cheap heat, but at least it's heat, and that's something that Garrison Cade will never see.

Good point. =\ But still, how far could he have gone after that?
Guest Jimbo Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Wouldn't it be great if we got a Japanese guy who came in and wasn't supposed to be some stereotypical, mysterious, mischievous foreign heel...

Guest Banders Kennany Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Wouldn't it be great if we got a Japanese guy who came in and wasn't supposed to be some stereotypical, mysterious, mischievous foreign heel... Ultimo Dragon. C'mon man. As for this Hirohito business, I think it's weird. The volume on my TV was giving me trouble and cahnging all up during odd times on RAW, so some segments I had trouble hearing, like this one. I would think they would was weird at first. The name Kenzo is cool indeed, but I'd bet a lot that they didn't want Suzuki as a last name because it's also a carmaking company. Maybe it will be Kenzo Hirohito. I wonder if future vignettes will show how the people of Japan suffered the after-effects of the A-bombs (I believe those were mentioned in the commerical, correct?). That will be a little gruesome and overboard for a wrestling angle but then again this is Dunce McMahon and the Human Roid's WWE we're talking about here. I hope Kenzo does well. He is a hoss but a foreigner, so maybe those things cancel each other out and he'll be in the midcard in a bit. He's probably a little better than everyone thinks, since most people only know him from that one TNA match with Saturn who made him look bad on purpose.
Scroby Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Wouldn't it be great if we got a Japanese guy who came in and wasn't supposed to be some stereotypical, mysterious, mischievous foreign heel... Didn't Tajiri basically do that?
humongous2002 Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 That's how Vince's mind works if you are not caucasian and american that means you are evil.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Well... what about Kane? He's caucasian and American.
2GOLD Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Can we never point to the work of a wrestler in Japan as how good they are going to be in the WWE? We all know that we will never see what they can do because they don't wrestle the Vince style of slow down and tell the worlds most boring story. If he sucked in TNA then he is probably going to be unbearable in the WWE. I'll give him a chance as a wrestler but this gimmick already screams bad. I mean, bringing up Pearl Harbor??? Come on, most of the people alive don't even care about it anymore. This would be like bringing up the War of 1812 to get heat.
Guest Korgath Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 I mean, bringing up Pearl Harbor??? Come on, most of the people alive don't even care about it anymore. It's a Hollywood blockbuster![/sarcasm] Anyway, Emperor Hirohito was monarch of Japan during World War II. I guess that's where all the American hate stems from. After all, Hiroshima and Nagasaki predate Chernobyl by decades.

Agree with the point about Saturn, there's some drama for you there.

Agree with the point about Saturn, there's some drama for you there. Why not step into the Puro folder and ask what they think of him. I've seen several of his matches from Japan and I can safely say he sucks. He has a very limited moveset.
Zack Malibu Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 So, how long until he feuds with Tajiri? And will Funaki magically appear on RAW as his manager, or is Mr. Fuji primed for a comeback? At any rate, I smell an anti-US alliance between this guy and La Resistance.
Guest nikowwf Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 They absolutely love WWE in Japan, yet WWE uses Japanese characters as the "evil foreigner". And i HATE the name - dont name him after an emperor of Japan, its somewhat offensive. Plus, the promo was something from the history channel. It didn't strike me as fearsome. niko
Guest nikowwf Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Also, the whole LA RESISTANCE heat is supposed to be from the fact that they are "anti-american" and not standing with us. How the hell would they do this with Hirohito? Japan's not against us at all. niko
LaParkaYourCar Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Bring in Sonny Ono as his manager!! Oh and he's a Japanese Hoss so Vince probably thinks this is the answer to the fans who want some Puro action.
