AndrewTS Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Soultaker had Joe in it as the...soultaker guy, but he also was in Werewolf. They actually did a few Ed Wood pictures: Bride of the Monster and the Sinister Urge were directed by Wood (among other things), and Wood wrote The Violent Years. Plan 9 would be way too easy, so they never did it. Glen or Glenda? might have been a good one to try, though. Wood had to have more movies somewhere to rip on. And I can only imagine what they'd do to Hulk Hogan vehicles. -=Mike Bride and the Beast, Jail Bait, Night of the Ghouls, and a few others might have worked, but Wood had a LOT of soft-core porn-ish movies that wouldn't really be appropriate for the show. According to IMDB, he contributed to The Unearthly as a writer (apparently uncredited), which they also did. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000248/ I don't know all of them that would be appropriate for the show, but there certainly are quite a few they could have done. However, the Wood shows generally didn't go as smoothly as you'd expect, so the results were mixed. EDIT: he also did some hardcore porn movies, too. Wouldn't be appropriate, for certain.

Golgo 13 Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I wanna say the 'Joe Estevez as Grim Reaper' movie is Soultaker. Edit: Damn, I was really late on that answer. As much as I like MST3K, most of the episodes I caught were during the Sci-Fi era. Even then I never caught all those episodes, so I regrettably missed out on a lot. I absolutely hated it when Sci-Fi moved the show to Saturday mornings and began airing the same ones over and over again, it seemed. I thought that was a really stupid move.

Sadly, I don't have it, neither do I have a few other classic eps suchs as Hobgoblins and the Undead. Eventually I'll get them, but mostly I'm getting the older stuff now. Although if you could provide me with some good copies of some of the Sci Fi ones I'm lacking, I'd be glad to trade ya a few of mine. "A wharwilf!?"

I absolutely hated it when Sci-Fi moved the show to Saturday mornings and began airing the same ones over and over again, it seemed. I thought that was a really stupid move. The only problem I had with it was that I was never a morning person. The Sci Fi eps are mostly pretty good, although overall rather weak compared to the glory days, I think. They did lose several of their writers, so that's why. Still, they had quite a share of classic episodes. Soultaker is also quite awesome due to the cameos of Frank and Joel. "You can really see the Kurosawa influence...this being on film as well." *shot of a balloon with happy face after the crash* "Just cram the irony down our throats!" The fact that the screenwriter/star wrote a scene with her mother lusting over her (even if it was really Joe Estevez-Taker), was pretty sick. The movie was such a shameless vanity project.
Guest wrestlingbs Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 The Scifi ones were more hit or miss. I think the cast and crew were running out of ideas. But there's still some good ones in their, with Overdrawn at the Memorybank being at the top ("Damn anteaters...")
Guest El Satanico Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Too bad they couldn't do "Howard the Duck" oh you god damn SON OF A BITCH...take it back! Howard The Duck owns you all, bitches :straightens jacket and walks away:
Ravenbomb Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 *sings* He triiiiiiiied to kill me with a forklift!

But there's still some good ones in their, with Overdrawn at the Memorybank being at the top ("Damn anteaters...") Running out of ideas? I don't get what you mean. Maybe for host segments, sure, but the riffing was usually pretty strong. However, the Sci Fi eps suffered from the loss of Frank and Trace (Dr. F). Mary Jo (Pearl) was a poor substitute for Dr. F, and with less writers you're going to have a smaller variety of humor. However, I always thought Bobo and Brain Guy had some great chemistry going in a lot of episodes. oh you god damn SON OF A BITCH...take it back! Howard The Duck owns you all, bitches :straightens jacket and walks away: The comic was way better. *sings* He triiiiiiiied to kill me with a forklift! Ole!
Ravenbomb Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I used to know all the words to all the forklift songs. I have since forgotten since I never had them on tape (I used to borrow them from some friends who have since moved back to Wisconsin)

Howard The Duck owns you all, bitches :straightens jacket and walks away: The comic was way better. Perhaps it is, but that is of no concern to me...for I have never read a single issue of said comic.
Ed Wood Caulfield Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 The fact that the screenwriter/star wrote a scene with her mother lusting over her (even if it was really Joe Estevez-Taker), was pretty sick. The movie was such a shameless vanity project. That reminds me of one of the riffs from the movie towards the end. Guy: You're beautiful. Crow: Yep, she did write this. And the part where Crow and Servo talk about what happened after the movie was over was hilarious. And yes, the part where the mother is watching the girl undress is pretty sick, but it was my favorite part of the film since the riffing and Crow using the visene was awesome. I was rolling on the floor laughing my ass off.
AndrewTS Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Oh yeah, it was hilarious, but still disturbing. At first I thought she was the Latvian woman in Werewolf. Sci Fi eps seemed to have a lot of waifish, curly-and-red haired women in it. BTW, on topic, here are some MST3K and related to MST3K sites: http://www.agonybooth.com/ http://www.jabootu.com ^ features LONG reviews of bad movies. Think of them as a mix of riffing and commentary in text form. Ideally, you would watch the crappy movie while reading. Some of the movies were done on MST3K, but for here the uncut versions are reviewed. http://mst3k-review.home.mindspring.com/ http://community-2.webtv.net/Mason85/MIGHTYJACKSMST3K/ Good episode guide/review sites. I find that Mighty Jack's page, while good, may not be reliable for picking episodes you like. Episodes he finds hilarious I may not really care for, and vice-versa. However, he's got great write ups, often with neat trivia and riff explanations, plus choice riffs from the episodes. http://www.badmovies.org ^ Covers tons of low-budget movies, b-movies, and bad movies. Not all of them are "bad," though. Generally, it's a quick run down of a ton of oddball b-ish flicks. Gives great summaries, "things learned" from the film, pictures and downloadables.
DMann2003 Posted April 26, 2004 Author Report Posted April 26, 2004 I saw on eBay the 'official' Bot building guide, it has a starting bid of 10 bucks and if no one goes for it, I might go after it (though the seller is crazy to place Buy it Now at 80 bucks)
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 A little late but..... Are you sure about Hellcats being one of the worst ever? Way back towards the end of the Comedy Central days the fans got to vote on the Top 50 episodes ever and then they showed them all summer. I think Hellcats was somewhere in the 30s.
AndrewTS Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 A little late but..... Are you sure about Hellcats being one of the worst ever? Way back towards the end of the Comedy Central days the fans got to vote on the Top 50 episodes ever and then they showed them all summer. I think Hellcats was somewhere in the 30s. Yes, quite. It just simply wasn't very funny, and subsequent viewings didn't change my mind at all. If it was one of those episodes chosen, I can only scratch my noodle and wonder just what happened. As far as cheesy biker movies on MST3K, I'll stick with the far superior Wild Rebels, thank you.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Ah yes, nothing beats Wild Rebels cereal.
DMann2003 Posted April 27, 2004 Author Report Posted April 27, 2004 Well I'm watching Hellcats right now, and I always seemed to remmember liking it, but it might've been because it was one of the few season 2 eps I'd seen. It's fine, but the last segment for Wild Rebels had me busting a gut at 1:00AM last night.

I mean a freaking SPACE DUCK falls in love with LEA THOMPSON!

Don't get me wrong, I'll watch the least funny 15 minutes of the least funny MST3K ep out there before I'd watch a single full episode of "Friends," but that episode is rather light on laughs. When the single best part of an episode is footage pulled from other episodes, then I can't recommend it. Note to self: watch Wild Rebels again next chance you get.
Zack Malibu Posted April 27, 2004 Report Posted April 27, 2004 First, you speak badly of Howard The Duck, and then I see you put "Garbage Pail Kids" in that category? Have you no love for great 80's cinema!?

Ravenbomb Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 how many Summer Blockbuster Reviews did they do? I got the first two, but I could've sworn there was a third one with Starship Troopers in it Jamie Lee: My brother killed my sister Whatshisname: How'd he do that? JL: With a very big, sharp kitchen knife. Crow: He shot her!
AndrewTS Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 how many Summer Blockbuster Reviews did they do? I got the first two, but I could've sworn there was a third one with Starship Troopers in it I'm ordering a tape of the specials from a friend, and it will have these on it: Specials: 1st & 2nd Annual MST3K Summer Blockbuster Reviews, Academy of Robots Choice Awards, MST3K Underground (from PS Underground Disk), The Little Golden Statue Preview Special You may be thinking of the Academy of Robots Choice Awards or Little Golden Statue Preview Special. I'm not sure about Starship Troopers ever being on there, though.
Ravenbomb Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 Well, I remember it showing the part where the soldiers running out of the ship and someone saying "Ewww, a bug! Run!"
