Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 1, 2004 The C- Yankees are CLEARLY back after the nice little Oakland series, so KC has a real legit shot.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Perfect games/no hitters are jinxed from the start. Everyone made a big deal when Jeter went 0-32. For a no hitter, you need a team to go 0-27. That's an extremely lofty goal. Add a pitcher's fatigue level, and its near impossible.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 This Cubs / Cards series already has a lot of intensity going into it, as these two have developed one of the better rivalries over the years. Cubs plate an early run and that was one questionable called third strike on Lee, as it looked outside and the ump paused a few moments before calling it. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I'm going to weep if the Cubs hit just one more foul ball that barely misses being a homer. That's THREE of them now.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I guess Sox/Rangers was PPD tonight. Another doubleheader for the Sox tomorrow, I assume? Arlington is getting nailed by a t'storm and they're worrying about tornadoes tonight. Â And my brother got tickets to a Yankee game at Fenway in August. Go me. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 This wasn't as heartbreaking as Game 6 of the NLCS, but it's damn close. To have the bags full with one out and have Sanders pop out, only to walk in the winning run the next batter after getting ahead 0-2; it's just devastating. And yet, the Cubs have no one to blame but themselves. They made four key mistakes that can often be considered minor things, but it made the difference. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Yep, and what makes it even worse is that the Cubs caught a huge break with the phantom out call on Rolen. Get a free out and then lose like that...pretty tough to take.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Like I said, no one to blame but themselves. The three foul balls that came close to being homers weren't anything they could control but had they not flubbed on two of the following things, I think they would've won: Â 1) Patterson bobbling the ball on the Edmonds double that allowed Pujols to score. Without that bobble, Pujols doesn't even attempt to score or he's out by a mile, as he just barely made it as it was. 2) Barrett doesn't miss the hit and run sign, which left Gonzalez out to dry. Barrett would then double, which would've meant a run had the missed sign been avoided. 3) Kerry Wood making the error that put Womack at third with no outs. Probably one of the biggest plays of the game, as we wouldn't have seen the string of relievers come out there had the Cubs been winning. 4) Alex Gonzalez being unable to play small ball. He's not a big power hitter, so he's gotta be good in certain offensive areas. Laying down a sack bunt is one of them and it was his terrible bunt that set up the double play that took the wind out of their sails in the 8th. Â And then you've got the Cubs' pen really blowing their first game of the season, as only Hawkins was effective and even he ended up losing the game. I swear, I cannot wait for the Cards to move out of that stadium, as the Cubs play worse few other places than they do there. Great game, but it was something I don't ever wish to relieve. Wood was brilliant and now it'll be ignored because of bad mental plays and shoddy relieve pitching.

Styles 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 The Orioles game was just horrible. Ponson suddenly can't pitch. Ugh. Ponson pitching to Javy Lopez, he looks fine. Now 2 straight games pitching to Keith Osik, he has 2 horrible starts. Now that Javy apparently has a strained oblique, this could be a real problem. Besides possibly losing our best hitter, Osik obviously brings out the worst in our pitchers and might be the worst "hitter" in baseball. Oh, his supposedly good defense has allowed 3 passed balls in 2 games...
Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Can anybody tell me about this MLB.com audio thing? I only want to get it if it carries the huge vast majority of the good games, and doesn't come in choppy or anything.
Styles 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 Can anybody tell me about this MLB.com audio thing? I only want to get it if it carries the huge vast majority of the good games, and doesn't come in choppy or anything. For 15 dollars for the whole season, you get online access to live radio feeds for all the teams, and acess to archives of past games. So, you can choose to listen to your local radio broadcast, or the opposing team's if you like, for all games. Arguments about how radio stations should be allowed to stream online for free aside, it's a good deal, and well worth it if you can't pick up your team's broadcast on your reciever. Get it here: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/audio/gda/index.jsp  For the curious, MLB TV is 15 dollars a month and provides live TV feeds for most games (unlike the radio though you can't choose between the home or away feeds, its kind of a crapshoot which one they choose), and you also get acess to archives for all games. I'm in an akward situation, as at school, my cable doesn't cover the O's (just Phillies), but this "zone" is considered a Baltimore zone as well (I guess the cable system outside of the school does cover the O's), so I found out live O's games are blacked out. The only reason I bought it. Goodie. But, on the bright side, after the games end the archives for all games are able to be viewed, so it's just a matter of avoiding the score, and later that night or the next day watching the replay of the game (and skipping commercials!) or listening live to the radio feed, and then skimming through video highlights. So, just a warning if you're considering it, to check to see if your zipcode is in a blackout zone for a team you want to see. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/video/mlb_tv.jsp
Styles 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 O's lose again in 12. Dejean left in for 3 innings and fails again. I can't take it anymore! Still 12-10 on the season...
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 I think MLB audio is quite worthwhile. It comes in clear on my system (broadband). Essentially, every game is available, and a handful are also available in alternate languages.
