Lance Storm Considering Retirement

He hadn't even reached his prime yet.

 

He's 35. That's well into - if not well past, his prime. He hasn't a had a *** match in years (unless he had some hidden classic on Heat I missed). This is probably the best thing to happen to Lance in ages, IMO.

Too bad. I didn't get to see his WCW or ECW stuff so I never got to see his real highlights.

 

When Steve Austin tells a crowd to chant "boring" at you, your in-ring career is done anyway. Moving on was pretty much his only option.

Lance Storm is a perfect example of everything that is wrong in WWE. He came in after a real strong showing in WCW, and they didn't even bother attempting to use him.

 

Storm is/was a great talent, and best of luck to him in the future.

The guy wrestling would be better than as a road agent. Every guy from OVW is going to have to have the same moveset regardless and Lance's strikes don't look realistic. Atleast Lance loves his trade though. I'd rather have him than a Goldberg, Brock, Rock, or Austin.

It's amazing how positive everyone is toward Storm when quite a few people characterized him as a decent worker at best, and some even called him a waste of space. I always thought he was good, but not great. Maybe the naysayers just haven't shown up en masse yet.

 

Personally, I thought he was a solid worker who could have great matches, but most of the time his matches would be thoroughly average to good. Probably his best match in WWE was with Edge at SummerSlam 2001, and I can't even remember another great match he had in the company.

IIRC most of his best matches were in Japan, though he did put on a few good ones in ECW. It's a bit hard for him to show much when most of his matches over the past few years have been squashes or as part of the UnAmericans (where he was beaten up for 5 minutes then won by cheating).

I was never a huge fan of Lance's, but he did have talent. That's what pisses me off, and what pisses me off in general. We see these idiots like Tyson Tomko or Matt Morgan get TV time because they're big, have tattoos, and can powerbomb people. But the fact is that they aren't talented... they're just big and they look like they just got out of prison. Lance had technical wrestling skills, and maybe if he was given a decent angle to work with he could have been an asset in the midcard. I'm not annoyed because it was Lance Storm who was released, I'm pissed because a good worker who could have been a strong player in the midcard was driven to (semi-)retirement. Yet we still get to see big green monsters get TV time and angles. Bullshit. This is what will kill WWE.

As long as Storm still has some employment with the company and keeps himself useful he can be rather secure finacially, be it a Road agent or trainer in OVW. If he did manage to pick up the mic skills I wouldn't mind hearing that base no nonsense voice in commentating

He was actually pretty good on the mic in ECW, IMO. He was a hell of a lot more realistic and believable than most wrestlers. It's just with his "no-nonsense" and "boring" characters he hasn't had a chance to show the same sort of power he once did.

The couple of singles matches that I have seen of Lance in ECW were really good, I speak of his match against Chris Candido at Heatwave 98 and against Jerry Lynn at Anarchy Rules '99.

I've always liked Storm. I first saw him in the dying stages of WCW and actually rooted for Team Canada. It's a pity to realise that his TV time will move from "limited" to "nonexistant" now.
