Guest Choken One Report post Posted April 28, 2004 This is just an idea that i thought of. With the increase in Pay Per Views for each Brand, This means more matches will be used and thus losing it's luster. I thought a great way to preserve angles and matches was that during the Survivor Series or perhaps SummerSlam PPV...instead of the recent 6 raw/5 smackdown match formula...They scrape that and do a Interpromotional Show where they revive the World Cup of Wrestling gimmick that WCW created for Starrcade 1995. Those who are unware, The idea was a BEST OF SEVEN WCW Vs Japan. This Pay Per view is generally considered one of the best ppv's ever with 3 matches hitting ****+ and an creative format that was quite unconventional for the time. So it's perfectly nice to imagine that WWE would like to save a handful of those matches on the cross promotion cards and do this format and reinforce the whole COMPETING BRAND notion. I would keep the World Champions from being part of the 7 Man Roster..and let them have a seperate title defense each. This is going from now how *I* Would set it up... Raw ---- HBK Shelton Benjamin Edge Jericho Randy Orton Ric Flair Christian Smackdown ----------- John Cena Rey Mysterio Rob Van Dam John Bradshaw Layfield Chavo Guerrero Jr Booker T/TBS Kurt Angle (he should be back by late summer neways and im keeping him as a heel for now) So you set up a Match with Chris Benoit Vs Batistia (no need to waste Benoit/HHH for this proposed card where the BEST OF 7 overshadows it) and have Eddy Guerrero Vs The Big Show/Booker (really you can alternate these two's position) Ideally, I'd take Edge off the Raw List as well as Bradshaw and have a Tag Team match for the brand reps but each show lacks defining teams to fulfill that need. The Matches Match One Shelton Benjamin Vs Chavo Guerrero Jr Match Two Ric Flair Vs Rey Mysterio Jr (the fans would get a kick out of it) Match Three Chris Jericho Vs John Bradshaw Layfield (Jericho is the only one face on raw to carry JBL...Shelton's too young, Edge hasn't learned shit in 6 years about carrying, HBK is being saved for something better) *WWE Title Match* Match Four Edge Vs Booker T/TBS Match Five Christian Vs Rob Van Dam *World Title Match* Match Six Randy Orton Vs John Cena Match Seven HBK Vs Kurt Angle You can slide the title matches in between the Best of Seven Series. You can book whoever you want going over For the BO7. Ideally, I'd have Tajiri in place of Flair and ANYONE in place for Bradshaw(like Knoble for instance) but I wanted to keep it within the realm of realism. Guest Dazed Report post Posted April 28, 2004 redbaron: No. If you don't understand Choken's post, either look up things on Google, or ASK. As for the idea itself, I like it, if only for the way that it gives the pay per view a way to stand out from those around it. Same deal as the Royal Rumble. A Raw vs. SmackDown King of the Ring style tournament (have a Raw bracket and a SmackDown! bracket, with the winners facing) would be a nice change, too. I don't know how well the "Raw is better than SmackDown!" bragging rights would go over, I doubt WWE would be behind it.
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 If only WWE were smart enough to pull this off. The only problem I do see is that WWE would focus all their angles on this instead of around it.
Guest Fook Report post Posted April 28, 2004 Not a bad idea, but Summerslam is already a big enough PPV without this gimmick. Doing it in May-June or September-October would work better as it gives those shows more prestige.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 Do they win anything? Other than a cup? I like the idea, because then you can work matches on each show where superstars have to fight to represent smackdown and raw, and you can work angles from that. haVoc 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 This could be the Great American Bash PPV. Are both brands booked for that PPV?
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 The problem w/ this idea is that you might end up pissing off the rosters for each brand. The SD roster is already pissed that they're treated like a second-rate show, and if you book Raw to "win", you only serve to reinforce the idea & make the SD lockerroom even angrier. If you book SD to "win", I'm sure there will be grumbling by the Raw roster. It'd be a very tight line to walk to make it work.
JJMc 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 That's actually a damn good idea. But there can't be any heinous~! finishes like "oh my God! he just hit him with a chair!"...followed by a rollup finish. And no "someone runs to Bischoff backstage" bullshit. Make it seem like a competition, like 'Cade '95 was.
EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Here's an idea how the keep everything from going stale. Don't do the 2 ppv's per month deal. With the way the market is now and the $40 price tag there is no way 15-18 are going to do well and from the same wrestling company. And if they do this they should have special In Your House type PPV's were they only cost $20 or do some kind of package deal were you two or more and get a discount. Gert T 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Maybe the winning brand could get to send one of their wrestlers over to challenge for the other's world title at Summerslam. They don't even have to win, but if they are worried about not having viable challengers for Eddie at Summerslam it could be an out to get some Raw wrestler over there for a one shot deal. Guest reshad974 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 What about bringing back Starrcade and making it a dual-brand PPV with best of seven interpromotional matchs ?
redbaron29 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 I do understand the concept- It would basically be survivor series meets King of the Ring, and has an illegitimate child that vaguely resembles the J-Cup. I don’t think it would ever happen. But it would be an interesting concept. And it would give Smackdown! the creditability it needs to get over as a show (If they would only let them win). It would also think it would do what Vince is trying to force all along, and that is for you to choose your own favorite brand. I also think it would never work due to the political pandering that goes on. As far as keeping angles fresh, you would probably be better off just firing all the writers and starting new. Guest duck420 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 im all for firing the writers....and the announcers except taz. i would love to see something like this but wwf doesnt have the ability to take a tournament concept seriously.
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Good idea BUT..... You just know everyone on the board the day after would be bitching about it not being as good as Starcade 95 was
