Scotty Thurman, Arkansas basketball -- I guess he thought hitting one big three in the NCAA title game would equal lottery pick. Turns out NBA teams like guys who can do at least TWO things well, not just shoot.

Jerry Tarkanian, UNLV b-ball coach -- For a short time, Tark coaches the San Antonio Spurs (help me out: wasn't it for, like, less than half a season?). I figured he'd be more relaxed knowing it was now okay for his players to be getting paid, but he still chewed that towel.

Maurice Clarett, Ohio State football -- At least the way it looks now. But had he just gone to class, none of this drama would have ever happened. Remember, all of this stuff started when that teacher came out and said he coasted through her class. After that it was just one thing after another, to where OSU doesn't even want him back.

Steve Spurrier, Florida football -- Yeah, I would have took the money too, but he could have probably won a national title instead of coaching in D.C. But I bet he'll be back at Florida after Ron Zook gets fired.

Rick Pitino is the obvious one.

I'll also throw in Jason Williams. Without all that cash, there would have been no motorcycle to crash.

Jay Williams had already graduated, though, I think. He had another year of eligibility, but there was no reason for him to come back. He was already picked No. 2. William Avery, though........

I suppose Dan Wilkinson is a fairly obvious choice.

Why should Casey Have stayed in?

If he played for another team in the league, he would be fine. But he was behind Joe Johnson and Penny for 1 year in Phoenix and played well in his back up role now.

With his defensive tenacidy and shooting ability, he would log major minutes on most other teams.

Eric Piakowski part II sez I.

What was that guys name that was the heir apparent to Allen Iverson at Georgetown. Everyone begged the guy to stay in school after his one decent year and he still tried to go. And no, he wasn't picked.

Wasn't Scottie Thurman a senior?

Victor Page was the G'Town guy you're thinking of. He never got drafted, bounced around the "minors," and was recently shot in the jaw during a car-jacking. He's still alive, though.

Thurman was a junior.

You know, honestly, Scottie still wouldn't have been drafted after his senior season. He just got his overseas basketball career started early.

And yeah. Victor Page...goddamned shame.

I would also throw in Antonio Winfield (I believe name correct) from UC. He had an awesome freshman year, foolishly went out and fell all the way to the second round.

Wasn't Avery still a lottery pick, like right around #13? Either way he got his money and I don't think he goes much higher, but the more basketball to develop would have been invaluable.

While I wouldn't call him a bust, I thought Jared Jefferies could have been a top five pick had he stayed another year.

William Avery

Rick Pitino

Kevin O'neil- He couldn't make Northwestern a good team, no business in the NBA.

Anderson Hunt- I thought this dude would be a monster in the league.

Antonio Daniels- Could be a better player than what he is now.

Lenny Cooke- all he had do take the Jr College route and he would've been alright.

Dontonio Wingfield. And I only know that because he played for the Sonics. While we're talking Bearcats, who from Cincy has made it big in the pros recently? Van Exel, K-Mart....I'm drawing a blank if there's anyone else.
