Guest hunger4unger Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3688645.stm Speaking on Arabic TV, Mr Bush deplored mistreatment of prisoners and vowed to punish any US troops responsible. But reports indicate widespread anger among ordinary Arabs that Mr Bush did not make a personal apology. Meanwhile, new photographs have emerged in the US press apparently showing more abuse of Iraqi detainees. Yet another mess in this so called liberation of Iraq. I'm not sure what the point was in Bush going on Arab TV, especially when no one in the arab world believes a word that he says anyway. I imagine that Bush is just sorry that American troops have been caught out torturing POW's.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Even *I* think that post is retarded. Have fun getting your ass raped.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I haven't heard Saddam apologize for torturing and murdering people, either. It's not like Bush was personally overseeing the torture of prisoners like Hussein did.

Ripper Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 But reports indicate widespread anger among ordinary Arabs that Mr Bush did not make a personal apology. The anger amongst Arabs with super powers is not as widespread.
Guest Razor Roman Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Bush didn't do any of those things, and he didn't tell anyone to do those things, hence he shouldn't apologize. He said everything is being dealt with according to the law, which is what should be done. I'd rather have justice brought to someone who hurt me or my family, than an apology from someone who had no idea that it was happening and had nothing to do with it being done. Besides, why should Bush give John Kerry a soundbyte for his commercials, especially if it's unnecessary that he say it.
Dr. Tom Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I imagine that Bush is just sorry that American troops have been caught out torturing POW's. Jesus Christ. You're a fucking disgusting waste of sperm and egg. So now the President WANTS soldiers to torture and demean Iraqi POWs and ENJOYS it? No, you chronic fuckhead. All he can do is demonize the people responsible and make sure they're punished appropriately. Even in an organization like the US military, there are bound to be some bad seeds, and some jackasses who get off on the misery of others. They'll be dealt with. But the President had nothing to do with Iraqis getting tortured, and it's both reprehensible and monumentally stupid of you to suggest that he did. Fuckhead.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Bush offered an apology today to King Abdullah of Jordan and reiterated it during a joint press session with the King, so that issue should be a non-issue now. The first post in this thread is so lame and worthless I'm not going to address it specifically, I will comment on one response: I haven't heard Saddam apologize for torturing and murdering people, either. That's really a red herring. Bush's actions should not be dictated based on what Hussein does or doesn't do. He is supposed to be (and indeed is) on a higher moral ground than Hussein, and so "Saddam didn't do it either!" is a pretty hollow excuse. That being said, I don't think him apologizing or not is a big issue, although it's the sort of thing that couldn't really hurt.
Guest thebigjig Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 In other news... leading Democrats held a press conference in which they demanded that Rumsfeld resign and that if he didnt, Bush should fire him republicans held a press conference right after literally saying the Democrats were purposely trying to aid the enemy and that they seem to be on the side of the terrorists I dont know if I'm the only one... but I'm really getting disgusted with this already, and I may just fucking stay home and not vote period
Guest thebigjig Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I think the ultra-partisan bickering is having a different effect than what both campaigns were hoping for... instead of getting people motivated, pumped up, angry, and ready to vote for either side, it's making alot of people sick and could quite possibly cause the lowest voter turnout in ages... low voter turnout has already been bad for the last several elections, and this time around, I think it will be worse.
Slayer Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 At least we're all in agreement about one thing Unger sucks
NoCalMike Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 the problem now is that both sides are just calling the other side big fat liars. We the people are not seeming to get to the bottom of ANY truth lately. All we are being fed is that everyone is not credible to believe. We have former employees breaking loyalty, and then the former bosses calling them bums to begin with. It is all just one big mess. I see no reason to vote for a democrat or a republican this year. Both seem to be complete wastes of space.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I don't see anything wrong with that photo. It was probably time for that Iraqi's 3 o'clock walk...
Jobber of the Week Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 The family, friends, and neighbors of that woman in all these picutres are possibly the dumbest since the Marin County Taliban's parents: "A lot of people here think they ought to just blow up the whole of Iraq," Colleen Kesner said. "To the country boys here, if you're a different nationality, a different race, you're sub-human. That's the way girls like Lynndie are raised. "Tormenting Iraqis, in her mind, would be no different from shooting a turkey. Every season here you're hunting something. Over there, they're hunting Iraqis." Down a dirt track at the edge of town, in the trailer where England grew up, her mother Terrie dismissed the allegations against her daughter as unfair. "They were just doing stupid kid things, pranks. And what the Iraqis do to our men and women are just? The rules of the Geneva Convention, do they apply to everybody or just us?" she asked. (...) "They are trying to pin all of this on the lower ranks. My daughter was just following orders. I think there's a conspiracy. " "Now the government turned their back on her, and everything's a big joke." ''He doesn't know what these guys are going through,'' Klinestiver said. Referring to Bush's limited National Guard service during the Vietnam War, he added, ''How can you make decisions for our military unless you've served yourself?'' Guest thebigjig Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 When I attended a local Howard Dean meetup last year out of curiosity, I ran into someone that I know who is an ardant republican Bush worshipper and the conversation LITERALLY went like this "hey man, are you seriously like Howard Dean?" "well I dont know... but he's appealing to me right now" "yeah but he's like against the war..." "yeah... so?" "why would he be? We're over there killin' dune coons! whats not to like?" he wasnt joking either... if this is the base the republicans are pandering to... the uneducated, frustrated white male hick crowd, then I'm proud to have nothing to do with it
Guest Vitamin X Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I see no apologies from the Arabs for anything our citizens have had to suffer at their hands, either. Fuck em.
Jorge Gorgeous Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I haven't heard Saddam apologize for torturing and murdering people, either. Guest Brian Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Are they all the same people, Vitamin? Are all the Arabs reponsible?
Guest MikeSC Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 In other news... leading Democrats held a press conference in which they demanded that Rumsfeld resign and that if he didnt, Bush should fire him If any of the rumors are true, the Dems shouldn't be griping because, in his next administration, Bush is reportedly considering tapping Cheney to be Sec. of Defense. I think Rumsfeld has done a fine job as Sec. of Defense up to this point. A few isolated hungers --- I mean, genetic mistakes --- does not make the military bad. The people for whom this "damages our reputation beyond repair" ALREADY had bad views of us that we couldn't fix. republicans held a press conference right after literally saying the Democrats were purposely trying to aid the enemy and that they seem to be on the side of the terrorists Poorly worded, but the attempt to paint anything resembling moral equivalence between the actions of rogue US troops and the systematic treatment of US POW's in, well, every war we've been involved in over the past century or so is ridiculous. Our troops did stupid things. No argument. When our troops are captured, they don't get humiliated. They get killed or starved the point of death. I dont know if I'm the only one... but I'm really getting disgusted with this already, and I may just fucking stay home and not vote period Why? If both parties are pissing you off, vote for a 3rd party. Not voting is one of the worst answers to your concerns. -=Mike
Guest thebigjig Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I see no apologies from the Arabs for anything our citizens have had to suffer at their hands, either. Firestarter Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I'd just like to point out at this time that my ancestry is partially Arab. And yeah. Fuck 'em.

Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 While not necessarily discounting that this may be true, I'd say that gaguing the comments thread of a BBC article probably isn't the best way to determine public opinion.
Kinetic Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Barring any sort of undetected sarcasm, I'm a little confused by all this "fuck 'em" talk, considering that the current justification for this war is the liberation of the Iraqi people, who last I checked are Arabs.
Vern Gagne Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 fk teale's post *marks the FUCK out* *faints*

It's not like Bush was personally overseeing the torture of prisoners like Hussein did. No, it's not Bush's fault but an apology on behalf of the US would have perhaps gone a little further in smoothing relations with the Arab world. After all, the troops who have been doing the murdering and torturing, albeit a minority, ARE representing the USA.
