Paul Stanley 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Taken from the KISSFAQ.com board There was between 1500-2000 ppl at the gig. As wont get fooled again played (The curtain with the kiss sign was already down) it faded and the lights went off, alot of ppl rushed to the front,me being one I got to about 3rd row on Thayers side. There was no introduction, the guys just came out and ripped into Deuce, the atmosphere at this gig was unlike any other i`ve been to,it was unbelievable! Paul was very very relaxed, their playing was unbelievable, the sound at this gig was the best i`ve heard, all due to the fact it was in a small venue. as you seen by the setlist it was a truly amazing show. No bombs,no blood,no fireworks, just music. The highlight for me was Love her all i can they really nailed that song. Gene forgot the words to parasite at the start so we sang for him, paul was beside himself with laughter,he was really enjoying himself! Thayer played great,he was really good tonight. The drum sound was another highlight,im still buzzing from this show. This is the 27th time ive seen kiss,i would have to say this is the greatest kiss show i`ve ever been to,a crowd that was going nuts,an awesome set, none of the gimmicks, just great music! The show was taped on video by a few ppl,2 guys in the 5th row standing side by side were videoing, and in the balcony there was 2 that i know of. At one point Stanley saw the videos in the front and gave them the bird. I hope the guys decide to do this type of show at other places, its an unbelievable experience Setlist: Deuce / Strutter / C'mon And Love Me / Parasite / Love Gun / Christine Sixteen / Makin' Love / Got To Choose / I Love It Loud / Love Her All I Can / She / All The Way / I Want You / War Machine / 100,000 Years / Hotter Than Hell / Shout It Out Loud / I Was Made For Lovin' You / Calling Dr. Love / Cold Gin / Detroit Rock City / King Of The Night Time World / God Gave Rock And Roll To You II / Rock And Roll All Nite Soundcheck: Got To Choose / Makin' Love / Parasite / She / Anything For My Baby / Rock Bottom / Two Timer / Strange Ways / Comin' Home / Goin' Blind / Kissin' Time / Cold Gin / Mr. Speed / I Stole Your Love / Creatures Of The Night / The Oath / I / Love Her All I Can / All The Way --- Man, that just rocks. I love The Elder LP. And with the addition of 'Love Her All I Can' and 'All The Way' it just brings a smile to my face, i'm def. going to get this on bootleg audio/video. I wish someone taped or recorded the soundcheck, Kissin' Time AND Mr. Speed!

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted May 15, 2004 I'm going to to the Kiss gig in Brisbane very soon at Boondall. Even if Grinspoon and Machine Gun Fellatio are supporting, of course it's just a damn fucking shame that Ace Frehley and Peter Criss aren't on the tour. Their last tour was entitled 'The Farewell Tour'.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 They later explained it as their farewell to the classic line up.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted May 15, 2004 They later explained it as their farewell to the classic line up. I quote Paul Stanley: "At this point, when we do retire there won't be any announcement. The Farewell Tour was done with a very honest sense that it was the end of us as a live band. But with a little bit of time going by, I realised that part of that farewell was based on not really enjoying certain aspects of the band. Ultimately though, I didn't want to stop just because things wen're working as well as they should have been. The end will come about one day when people suddenly realise that they haven't seen us around in a while." Great answer to an interview question - but without the four of them, it's not Kiss. Their last tour was entitled 'The Farewell Tour'. It's not a shame, if both of them could of laid off the booze and crank they've would of been alright. I'm glad Singer & Thayer are in, i don't think Criss could drum to half those songs and Frehley could even remember the solos to 'em, plus they sound much crisper and tighter this way. KISS is KISS, original four or not. The last tour was titled 'World Domination', unless you are talking about the four farewell. Always good to have discussion! Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Paul, when I say "last tour", I mean their last world tour, i.e. when they came here. Yes, but diehard Kiss fans all over the globe idolise Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss and Paul Stanley. While it would be great to see Paul and Gene put on a great show, I don't know what they're going to do to fill in for Ace and Peter. If it they do it well, I'm happy. But even so, it's most definitely not the same.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted May 16, 2004 I would love to see Kiss do a brief without the make up tour with Singer and Kulick. I don't know how smart that would be - they would lose a lot of mystique, even if they were to retire after the tour. *Avoids Kane remark* But you read what Paul said. Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Kiss sold out to the fullest extent, being corporate shills, but that's ok here. The rock music industry needed/needs sell-outs, it's just a fact of life. Punk is the genre for sell-outs, in my opinion, but punk could never be and never will be globally popular as rock music can. Look at The Clash - popular as hell to their fans, not all over the world. Music such as Kiss has something for everyone, and they truly are one of the greatest at their craft - so they did the world a service by selling-out. alfdogg, when did you go to that show? haVoc 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 Music such as Kiss has something for everyone, and they truly are one of the greatest at their craft That's very arguable. I don't want to bash Kiss. I like them, I've seen them 3 times. Always a fun show regardless of who is playing with Paul and Gene. Kiss has made a lot of really great catchy rock songs, but please don't try to say they're one of the greatest musically of "their" craft/style. It's hard to place Kiss' music. They broke huge in the 70's but their rock style was pretty different from the other top bands. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc., all had heavy blues influence. Kiss, and I don't mean this in a negative way, was more simple, straight cut, loud and in your face. A lot of Kiss' music from the 70's could have came a decade later and fit in with bands like Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Ratt, etc,. Wasn't like their music changed any in the 80's after make up. alfdogg 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 alfdogg, when did you go to that show? Sometime in the mid-to-late 90's...not sure if I was in HS yet. It was in Market Square Arena, which has since been torn down.
Paul Stanley 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2004 The Revenge Tour was a great tour, i had(they were stolen) probably the entire 92 bootleg collection on audio cd, and some handhelds on vhs, sadly my KISS collection of over 1000 CDs/VHS was stolen a few months ago, so i'm aching to get them all back. Tears Are Falling live is AWESOME.

I'm also a huge fan of Asylum (many fans I know aren't), as "Who Wants To Be Lonely" and "Tears Are Falling" are two of my all time favorite KISS songs. I'm really not that crazy about the Hot In The Shade album (although when I first heard "Forever" it gave me goosebumps) or the Crazy Nights album (I used to listen to it non-stop when it first came out, and always thought "Reason To Live" would be their first Top 40 hit in ages). Revenge has always been my favorite non-makeup album, but I do hold a soft spot for Asylum, only because "Uh! All night", "Tears Are Falling" and "Who Wants To Be Lonenly" are on it. I agree with you, Malibu, some of my all-time favorite Kiss tunes. Tears Are Falling live is AWESOME. Is it, really? I have a bootleg VHS from their Asylum tour at MSG, they played it and I thought it didn't translate very well live. That's the only live version I've ever heard so maybe you know better ones, with all your bootleg collection and stuff. And "Mr. Speed" live? Awesome. "Kissing Time"? I don't think they ever played it live, other than very early on. Did they play it on their Covention Tour, when they used to take any suggestions from the audience and play the songs unplugged? Also, I've got to agree on Reason To Live. That song had Top 40 ballad written all over it, and I'm shocked it didn't take off. They more than made up for it when Forever took off after Hot In The Shade was released. Other non-makeup era songs I'm a fan of are "A Million To One" off Lick It Up, "Thrills In The Night" from Animalize, and "I Just Wanna" and "Tough Love" off of Revenge. As you can see, I'm more a Paul fan than anybody else in the group. I've got to get Exposed on DVD so that I've got the Asylum videos. Funny note...having only been 5 when Asylum came out, I listened to the music (my cousins and half-brother were all KISS fans) but had never seen any videos or footage, save for makeup era stuff. In the mid-90's, there was a guy who had a public access show here in RI called "Rock N' Roll All Nite" and all it was was this chubby oaf sitting in front of a blue screen and showing KISS videos all night. That was the first time I saw any of the videos from Asylum or Crazy Nights.

The later two videos they released were really just recycling "Tears". I wore out my original Kiss Exposed tape just watching that video, so now I'm grateful I have a DVD copy of it. Also of note: MTV did a special countdown years ago (87-88 IIRC), hosted by Twisted Sister's Dee Snider, that listed the Top 20 Heavy Metal videos of all-time as voted by the fans. "Tears Are Falling" came in at #2 behind Motley Crue's "Smoking in the Boys Room". Anybody seen it?
