AboveAverage484 Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 The past couple days my computer and internet(DSL) has been slow as hell. Anybody know any tricks for improving speed, like certain files to delete (I already temp. internet files) or anything like that. Thanks in advance.
IllustriousOne Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Try cycling the modem (Powering off, waiting a few minutes, powering back on)
razazteca Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Defrag? Uninstall some stuff from the taskbar? Add more RAM?
KingPK Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 If you haven't defragged or run disk cleanup in a while, that's probably the reason. The information is scattered all over the hard drive and it's taking the CPU longer to get what it needs.
AboveAverage484 Posted May 22, 2004 Author Report Posted May 22, 2004 Ya know Kinetic, that sounds like what needs to be done. Uh, how do you defrag or run disk cleanup? I know, I'm dumb.
AboveAverage484 Posted May 23, 2004 Author Report Posted May 23, 2004 What do you mean, I've got like 200 files off of Kazaa plus a lot of MMA highlight videos.
Guest slacklet Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 What do you mean, I've got like 200 files off of Kazaa plus a lot of MMA highlight videos. And are you sharing them constantly? If so, kiss your system resources goodbye.
razazteca Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 Is your provider SBC? If so then you do know that the company is on strike?
AboveAverage484 Posted May 23, 2004 Author Report Posted May 23, 2004 I only share the folders when Kazaa is on, and that's only when I'm downloading something. How do I know if my provider is SBC?
razazteca Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 If it has anything to do with a "Bell" company then it might be SBC.
razazteca Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 I believe you problems with your DSL being slow has everything to do with the SBC strike. SBC is the biggest of the "Baby Bells" and its strike as directly effected your bit torret/porn downloads.
AboveAverage484 Posted May 23, 2004 Author Report Posted May 23, 2004 It's really not downloads I have problems with, just loading my home page (MSN) and certain sites. This site still loads pretty fast. Is Bellsouth and SBC affiliated in any way?
