Backstage WWE News: DDP, X-Pac, Prichard, More

Recommended Posts

Guest BillyTheStud

- Diamond Dallas Page was laughed at by many behind his back at the Judgment Day PPV for giving unsolicited advice to Mordecai prior to his debut match. DDP was also seen talking to Johnny Ace which led guys to speculate that he is looking for work.

- X-Pac spent most of his time backstage at the Judgment Day PPV hanging out with old friend Triple H. The two had not spoken since Waltman left WWE but were apparently on good terms at the PPV. Word is that Waltman has lost weight and was said to be very nervous around many of the wrestlers.

- Bruce Prichard, who is seeing more of his ideas used lately, is extremely unpopular backstage right now.

- Both Rey Mysterio and Eddy Guerrero continue to try and push for Konnan to get a job with WWE, likely as an announcer.

I don't get it either. DDP even though he had his matches fully planned, did have some good/great ones and was fairly over.

- What exactly did DDP have to say to Mordecai? I wouldn't mind seeing him with the company again, as a wrestler or some other on-air position.

- Damn, it's weird to think of Triple H backstage at Judgment Day. X-Pac didn't exactly need to lose any weight, and I don't see why he'd be so nervous around the wrestlers.

- I'd like to know which ideas of Bruce's are being used. And why is he so unpopular?

- If Konnan is signed with WWE, being brought in as an announcer rather than a wrestler could be interesting to see how it would be done. Would Funkai still be "SmackDown! Numbah 1 Announcah!"?

Isn't Bruce behind the return of the "extreme gimmicks" (what a bizarre term), like JBL, Mordecai, Dupree's having a poodle, and whatnot? That could have something to do with it.

HHH was at J-Day? I can't imagine that fitting in with his schedule very well. Where was the next night's Raw in relation to the PPV?

DDP started off as an untalented hack and through sheer hard work became one of the two real new WCW main eventers from the nWo era, Goldberg being the other.

Yeah, I wouldn't want his advice either.

If they're pissed at him for that and know that the new driving force behind their program, assuming that it's the SmackDown! wrestlers that feel this way, it wouldn't hurt for them to really say something, and it also shows just how the wrestlers aswell as company personnel feel about the show.

Id say lets see how this extreme gimmicks crap plays out. If it bombs, it bombs. But if not im open to see how it goes. When I see those gimmicks on Smackdown the first thing I think is "At least there not as vanilla and generic like they were getting" e.g Jindrak and Cade. The second thing I think is how nostalgic it is that these over the top gimmicks are on Tv again. Sure I know they are a big stretch on the imagination but im intruiged whats gonna happen. Maybe McMahon is hoping that Cornette's 7 year rule will come into play here and fans will come back to the product in nostalgia for how over the top professional wrestling can be. I mean, some of the most memorable characters of our youths were over the top, larger than life characters.

You know when Vince McMahon has abandoned any interest in Smackdown where he assigns Brother Love to take care of it.

Yeah, and the last time he did that, SmackDown! was much better than it is now. In fact, SmackDown! was pretty damn awesome the last time he did that.

Yeah. And let's get Hogan, Savage, and Piper to come in and feud with Flair over who's the top legend in the sport while we're at it.

This can all build up to the return of Ultimate Warrior where he beats Eddie for the strap.

Nostaglia does NOT equal ratings. Nostaglia is only cute for about 5 minutes. Then they want to see ya know...something GOOD.

RePackaging good wrestlers who already have solid proven gimmicks with new stupid ones won't help the WWE, it will only make things worse.

This is a different era. Vince isn't targeting younger audiences. It's about the teenagers and the twentysomethings and no one is going to watch a show filled with mindless crap involving voodoo, dead guys (who were Bikers 6 months ago), and 60somethings holding the crusierbelt.

Nostalgia ruined WcW. The constant matches with Hogan, Savage, Flair, and Piper were a cancer. They sucked the heat and energy out of the audience.

Stupid gimmicks caused the ratings and gates to plummet in the early 90's, it was only when the WWE stopped treating the fans like idiots that things began to change.

Fuck nostalgia.

I don't know why DDP still gets ripped for that. And from WWE guys no less. Their matches get planned front to back, top to bottom, start to finish.

Only difference is... DDP planned his own matches with the guys he faced. Guys in WWE have agents planning their matches.

Just imagine if Kurt Angle didn't plan out most of his matches.

He's not too popular with the IWC and the Neilsen ratings, either.

The problem is that they're harking back to an awful era in the company businesswise. The 95 era isn't something they should want to remember.

Yet, an over-the-top gimmick on Raw (Eugene) is being booked well....

but its being booked intelligently.

They have built up a core of support and made Eugene a fan favorite via great skits and promos.

Instead, Bradshaw looks like a caricreature and so does Moredeaci and the rest of the shitty extreame gimmicks.

There was this time from 1997 to Late 1998 where we got good smart stuff.

Then Russo went crazy in 1999. Then Kreski brought things back to nomal for a few months then Stephanie drove it to the ground.

I think part of the problem with Bruce Pritchard is that he's a blatant Vince McMahon kiss-ass and that he'll also push for himself to appear on TV as Brother Love for no obvious reason. (Remember the Smackdown Halloween party in late 2002? That was one of like 4 times Brother Love appeared on TV around that time.)

how dare that DDP give a guy advice!

I'm shocked Raven hasn't begged his pal Page to tour with him on the indy circuit.

Landon, you'd best hope no-one from the WWE ever reads this thread because if that idea goes ahead I'm gonna drive to where you live and kill you.

Just sayin'.

Yeah, I wouldn't want his advice either.

Because if DDP didn't live next door to Bischoff and swap wifes with him he wouldn't have gotten anywhere like he did. And he was a horrible world champion winning it in a match were there were far better choices. Well I don't hate DDP if he wasn't living next door to Eric he wouldn't have become world champ.

I think that one of the reasons why WWE rag on him and the fact that when he was talking to Vince about joining the WWE after the buyout instead of shaking his hand after the talk DDP came up and gave Vince a big hug and they based the whole Austin and Angle hugging Vince on what Page did. Hell the guys were joking backstage that Page was going to try and buy a house next door to Vince.

Come on. Doug Basham doing the moonwalka nd wearing a mullet wig? Ratings gold!

And he was a horrible world champion

Didn't he pull a decent match out of Goldberg's hide as champ? Weren't the majority of his matches as champion half-decent or mostly better? Horrible is a pretty strong word, considering.

Oh God....Was Prichard the head booker of the WWF in the early 90's...until Russo took his place in the mid 90's...????

If this is the same person...then WWE T.V. is doom....he loves gimmick wrestling...
