Hard to say if it'll hold up, but he's posting some very impressive numbers, leading the majors in RBIs and basically being the one who can usually get that hit to drive in a run. Hudson is pitching well so far this season, but head to head with Schilling has to favor Schilling since this will be his first time through the A's lineup and first time meetings almost ALWAYS favor the pitcher. Derek Lowe pitches on Wed so the Oakland offense will be on fire, and Mulder pitches on Thursday...with the way he's been pitching as of late I can't see the Red Sox offense getting much off of him(even if they have given him alot of trouble in the past.). That being said thus far the AL MVP is Manny Ramirez. I don't just say that because I'm a Sox fan but it seems if he's slumping the whole offense is slumping. Although, according to Hendry and Rothschild, both of whom have become very suspect in my mind, this is just some minor thing, and they told Wood to tell them if he felt anything at all during his simulated game. When they do, and considering the problems they've had in recent years, I've gotta believe it can't be far off, things will settle down. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 24, 2004 John Vander Wal, Brandon Larson and Austin Kearns, and Jason LaRue has had the biggest, longest injuries (spent time on the DL). Vander Wal hit 2 HR in an extended spring training game last night, and will start a rehab assignment in Louisville most likely very soon. Larson is on a rehab assignment in Chattanooga. Kearns has been hitting very well (.353) since his return. Casey has missed a few games [3 vs. the Dodgers] because of a thumb injury. Freel, and Castro has missed a few games over nagging injuries, or problems - but they're fine now (Freel may be at 90%). Why are the Reds doing so well? Timely hitting by certain players, and very good pitching. The offense hasn't even been it's best this year, and has only played a few games with the complete - supposed lineup (DLO/Larkin/Jr/Kearns/Dunn/Casey/Larson/LaRue). The bench is full of weak, not so good hitters (atleast until one of the best pinch hitters returns), and yet - they've still gotten the job done. Paul Wilson (6-0, 3.59) and John Reidling (2-0, 0.41, 20 gms) has been huge on the pitching side. Harang, Acevedo, and Lidle has been solid, but inconsistant when it comes to quailty starts. Though, Lidle leads the league with 3 complete games. Getting rid of Jimmy Haynes has been a blessing. Todd Van Poppel has a 3.45 era in 3 starts this season. Certainly surprise players stepping up in big roles. The Reds have a solid TEAM. They don't have to rely on one or two guys. They have big role players, and clutch hitters. Which has ultimately led to the best record in the nation league (along with the cubs) after about 2 months. I still think the Cubs and Astros are the teams to beat in the NL Central, but as I said before the season, alot of people are gonna be surprised with how good the Reds can play. I think they'll be in it, some way or another, til the end. As someone else said, I don't think many people expected the Angels or Marlins to play the way they did in their respective great seasons either. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

He completely shit all over the Reds just because he doesn't know who the pitchers are. What a lazy piece of crap. Seeing as how a lot of these injuries are serious, that may not be possible. And bone scans of Kerry Wood's arm came back negative, so he should be back within the next three weeks. If you actually follow a team, you'd know what I mean about the pitching. Not just looking from the outside in. Overall numbers do not tell the complete story. When the Reds get QS, they are 16-9. Jimmy Haynes and his 16 runs in 15 innings is no longer on this team. That takes the ERA about 20 points. Wagner, Norton and Reith has also imploded the ERA.
