Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 30, 2004 What the hell is up with these idiot umps? Ward gets hit on the leg by a Zambrano pitch (yeah, big surprise), but he clearly swings at it, but the ump awards him the base anyway. Barrett immediately asks for an appeal down to the third, but the jackass won't even allow that. What's that crap? If he hits the guy, fine, but if he swings at it, you have to at least let them make the appeal. Ridiculous. You know it's bad when the Pirates' announcers are completely on the Cubs' side. Umps are bad and stubborn this year
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Who's who? Well, if the Red Sox had been playing like the Cubs have been lately, wouldn't you be mad if the homeplate ump wouldn't even allow an appeal down to third after the opposing batter was hit but took a full swing, subsequently loading the bases? That's just something I've never seen before and didn't even think an ump could get away with such a thing.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Red Sox had a 5 game losing streak earlier this season. Basically the offense was snoozing for a week and the pitching was getting no help at all. During that losing streak I don't recall complaining much, however I did wish we had Victor Martinez to back up Tek and Jody Gerut in RF(since the losing streak came at the hands of Texas and Cleveland)
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 I don't recall asking if you complained much, I just asked if you would be mad when a guy on the opposing team got hit, clearly swung and the homeplate ump wouldn't even allow an appeal down to first. At the time, it loaded the bases, so that just added on to the annoyance. The Bucs have left 11 men stranded today, which is an indication of either Zambrano's luck or his ability to get out of jams. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 30, 2004 It's sad when the Yanks are playing like Double A players, the home team is playing well, and the whole crowd is still cheering for the Yanks.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 The Orioles are mounting a comeback down 1 run in the 9th against the Tigers, going for the sweep. Make that a tie game.

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Oh, and for Cubs fans. If you think your bullpen is shabby take a look at Cleveland's. They would be in the hunt for the Central if it wasn't for their bullpen.

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 30, 2004 it looks like Jack McKeon finally pitched Beckett to the DL. I believe Beckett had at least 110 pitches in every start this season.

Bored 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Okay time for Billy Beane to swallow his pride and admit Arthur Rhodes as a closer was a terrible move. A's get swept by the Indians all in late inning fashion, today being the worst with Rhodes blowing the save then losing the game on a wild pitch. Just terrible. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Foulke blows his first Save but the main thing is Francona leaving Schilling in too long again. If you have a 4 run lead going into the 8th and your starter has been on the bench for the past 20min you go to the pen.

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Red Sox tie it off of Hasegawa and Jabba the Closer. Headed to the top of the 9th, and further delaying my nap.

HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 UGLY call by the home plate ump on Ichiro. Calling him on a strikeout when the pitch was way off the plate and his bat didn't cross the plate either. I'm a Sox fan but still, ugly.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Finally the Cubs snap the losing streak and in grand fashion, tacking on seven runs in the 9th and keeping 12 Pirates baserunners from scoring, en route to a 12-1 win. Zambrano wasn't as sharp as we've seen him, but still did well all things considered. The pen was lights out in three innings of work, not allowing any baserunners. But I think fans of both teams will agree that the umpiring was shoddy this afternoon. Tossing Johnson in the 9th was a ridiculous call. I guess the ump didn't consider how absurd it'd be for the pitcher to intentionally hit a guy with two outs to load the bases for one of the best Cubs hitters, especially when he had done so well to work out of early trouble. Cartman 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 I have no words for this LOL it's ok that you don't understand when someone is being blatantly sarcastic. one bad game means absolutely nothing. I know it's over your head an all, but I was trying to be like the rest of the friggin jackasses that pollute that pathetic board every day. The fact that you would take ANYONE seriously from there is really really disturbing. Oh and I think it's about time you stop being a child.
Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 In a park where both bullpens are located in center field, there is nothing more comical than a benches clearing incident which occurred both yesterday and today. They run all the way from the bullpens side-by-side, not saying a word, then stand around yelling at each other once they arrive at the source of the problem. Hilarious. And Lloyd McClendon's bobblehead was pretty fucking classic, too.

Big McLargeHuge 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Giants win their 9th in a row, 3-1 over the Rockies. Another awesome outing by Schmidt, shutting them out for 8 innings. The streak probably ends tomorrow in Arizona, but were finally over .500.
Mik 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 it looks like Jack McKeon finally pitched Beckett to the DL. I believe Beckett had at least 110 pitches in every start this season. Not totally true. Beckett has never had a full season and has blister problems his whole career. I was hoping it was over with, but apparently it isn't. In my opinion, the pitch count has absolutely nothing to do with it.

HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 According to MLB.com, Beckett's averaging 98 pitches per game(506 through March/April and 572 through May 30th, thus 1078 pitches divided by the 11 games pitched in results in 98 per game). Just for fun, he's also averaging 16 pitches per inning for this season. He's thrown over 100 pitches 6 times and more then 110 4 of those starts with another being 109.
