EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2004 http://www.dailystar.com/dailystar/metro/23436.php Officer's Taser is used on girl, 9 By C.J. Karamargin ARIZONA DAILY STAR A veteran South Tucson police sergeant is under investigation for firing his stun gun to subdue a handcuffed 9-year-old girl. At the request of Chief Sixto Molina, the Pima County Sheriff's Department is trying to determine if the sergeant committed a crime when he sent a jolt through the child's body. The police officer used a Taser on the girl at about 5:30 p.m. May 8, Molina said. The nonlethal weapon uses a pulsating electrical charge to immobilize a person for several seconds. "I'll be the first to admit, you've got a veteran sergeant Tasing a 9-year-old girl, it doesn't look good," said Molina. The sergeant was one of at least two officers who responded to a call from the Arizona Children's Home, a school for special needs children, on South Eighth Avenue, he said. "It had to do with a runaway from the institution," the chief said. He declined to provide further details. The school could not be reached for comment late Monday. But Molina said that the facility is the source of frequent calls to his 25-person department. Molina said one officer initially responded to the call from the school. That officer requested assistance from another officer and specifically asked that the second officer bring a Taser. He said the girl was handcuffed at the time the weapon was used. The sergeant who used the hand-held Taser remains on duty. His name is not being released while the investigation is under way. "It didn't involve an integrity issue," Molina said. "The officer made a decision to do what he thought he needed to do." Deputy Dawn Barkman, a spokeswoman with the Sheriff's Department, confirmed a review of the incident is under way but said she had no further details. The results of the probe will be forwarded to the Pima County Attorney's Office. "They'll have to present it to us to see if any criminal charges are warranted," said County Attorney's Office spokesman Dan Benavidez. Sgt. Dan Snyder, a South Tucson police spokesman, said the investigation could be complete by the end of the week. ° Contact reporter C.J. Karamargin at 573-4243 or at [email protected]. Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted May 28, 2004 Christ it's hard enough to handle my baby when he's going nuts I can just imagine a 9 year old. Maybe I should get me a taser...
Guest Quik Report post Posted May 28, 2004 Hey man, sometimes you gotta handle the special kiddies like cattle. Just give 'em a little jolt and they won't fall out of line.... that's the American way. When they're twitchin and a-fussin', droolin' and screamin', and just overall behaving badly, you gotta do something.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2004 Christ it's hard enough to handle my baby when he's going nuts I can just imagine a 9 year old. I'm probably the last person in the world to give parenting advice but whenever I was in charge of babysitting and a brat was screaming, I just screamed back. Worked out pretty well, too... Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted May 28, 2004 It's probably a better idea then caving in... but I'll stick to my cattle prod for now.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2004 My opinion is that they can understand you yelling back at them, thus being told to shut up. Years back when the better half and I were babysitting her niece and nephew, her niece wouldn't shut the fuck up -- she was a few months old and had a loud mouth. Everytime she started screaming, I'd just go "WAAAAAAAAH!" back at her and she usually screamed a little bit louder then tired herself out...

Guest Nanks Report post Posted May 28, 2004 Those special kids have that retard strength. It's fuckin' bizarre that, my cousin's Down's Syndrome and he's a fuckin' ox. He's 8 or so years younger than me but the little buggar is just so strong. I'm one of the only ones in the family that can come close to holding him down. I don't understand how that works. Guest netslob Report post Posted May 29, 2004 your probably right...if she were black, the taser would've been shoved up her ass. then they'd plant a gun on her and sprinkle her with crack.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Uhh, I really want to see the justification for this one given in this officer's hearing. I see unintentional comedy to tha max. But, she was handcuffed, correct? So the taser was used becuase?? I mean I can understand it being used on grown men resisting arrest, but a 9-year old? That is messed up. You are right Mike, I blame Rumsfield on this. Actually I blame the cop, who really is not going come out of this smelling like roses. But it might decrease the level of 9-year old crime in this city, but how this is justified will be interesting. Maybe she was all whacked on drugs, but I seriously doubt that. But I was not there, but I will make sure if I ever live there, and raise children, that they behave, or they might get tasered. That will show them.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I take it many of you have never tried to wrestle down a 9-year-old...those fuckers kick, scream, bite, headbutt, whatever. They're dirty fighters with no sense of honor. And if it's a special needs kid? That means she's probably got a lot of mental problems. One of them might be an excessive amount of aggression, which my oldest niece has. They're vicious.

Guest netslob Report post Posted May 31, 2004 not the point, Laz...a full grown man, with police training, mind you, should be able to restrain a 9-year-old girl, especially if her hands are bound behind her back. using a taser shouldn't even be a consideration. Guest Nanks Report post Posted May 31, 2004 EDIT: Something has gone terribly awry. Sorry.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Normally I'd agree with you Laz, they are dirty little pricks at that age, but whilst my 14 year old male cousin is a fair handful, I think if he was handcuffed I'd be pretty right. You would think that just getting the girl in a mild sleeperhold would be enough, even though that's pretty rough on a 9-year old it's a hell of a lot better than a fucking Taser-ing. Mind you, you've gotta be a little lenient on the cop. If you had a Taser it would be so hard to resist just using it totally at random. Especially on screaming children. One of them might be an excessive amount of aggression, which my oldest niece has. They're vicious. Heck, I got money on her being nothing more than a jailbait, cocktease...oh, wait, this isn't LS&D, is it? Subduing an angry little kid is hardly an easy task. They also have an uncanny talent to know where exactly to hit for the nut shot. I thought everybody could pretty well nail a nut shot if needed. Unless the cop was unusually small, it's a fairly easy target. not the point, Laz...a full grown man, with police training, mind you, should be able to restrain a 9-year-old girl, especially if her hands are bound behind her back. using a taser shouldn't even be a consideration. In the cop's defense (OK, I admit he did wrong here) --- a male cop subduing a little girl is not easy. He has to be EXTREMELY careful where he grabs her (sexual assault on a child would probably not look good to a jury when the girl's family presses charges). Heck, a male subduing a woman of ANY age is not easy. You have to have uncanny restraint to avoid legal hassles. -=Mike
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I guarantee that this kid is also an incorrigible brat that had had the police out there several times before. He was probably sick and tired of dealing with the family all the time, and figure a nonlethal but extremely painful dosage of DC would scare her straight. A scummy tactic, but one that I've never heard of happening before, and one that could work.
