Steviekick 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 I noticed that the HOF DVD is on sale this week at Best Buy, but I'm not sure about it. To those who have seen it or know about it, would you suggest picking it up?
Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted May 30, 2004 I hear its not worth it.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted May 30, 2004 It's a two disc set, with plenty of extra footage and the entire Hall of Fame ceremony (well, the important stuff. The thing lasted like 5 hours so it was shortend)

Internet Warfare 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I hear the Heenen stuff was funny. How much is it on sale for?
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 If you have to ask, I wouldn't buy it. The extras are "classic" stuff...but classic crap, pretty much.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 My apologies, forgot about that, pretty decent. But one can only take/see JYD Vs. Race and Andre bearhugging John Studd so many times. Also, note the "pretty much" after the word "crap"...which makes my statement kinda true.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted May 31, 2004 IIRC, a Greg Valentine/Tito Santana match is also on the DVD, so that makes up for the Andre/Studd shit-fest. I'm guessing they (WWE) were too lasy so they had to dig up matches from WM 1 and WM III that were far from legendary, seeing how Race's NWA Stuff completely smokes the match, and Studd had...well, not good matches, but better than being squashed by Andre. If you're a fan of the legends who were inducted, then you should get it. If not, you shouldn't. That's really the main reason I buy. For example, I'm not fans of Rey Jr & Brock Lesnar so I didn't buy their DVDs. Ditto John Cena. I did buy ones of Ric Flair, Triple H, Mick Foley, Hulk Hogan, and Stone Cold because I like them. I'd buy the DVD because it's both a special DVD (i.e not a devoted to current wrestler one) and the ceremony was probably very good. The first disc is the 3 hours or so of the ceremony. The 2nd disc is I believe 3 or so hours of extra footage (matches and skits) of all the inductees. We know 2 matches suck (JYD/Race from WM III and Andre/Studd from WM I) while a couple of matches rule (Slaughter/Patterson and Chico/Valentine). We also know some Heenan segments from old PTW's are included as well, so that's nice to have also.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I'd get it just for the Bobby Heenan segments.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I really wish they put in a couple of Bobby's greatest announced matches... any Tito Santana match was Heenan gold.

I was under the impression that they were using the Race-JYD SNME match (which still sucks) and an Andre-Studd match from April 1983 (which probably still sucks since one of their Spectrum matches around that time literally consisted of Studd holding Andre in a headlock for ten minutes). Still, the alley fight and three or four hard to find title changes should make it worth a pickup.
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 The Heenan skits are the only things that I'm honestly interested in, so I'm going to pass. That, and I'm really picky about what old school wrestling I watch.

Either way though for Andre/Studd it will probably suck. Damn my weak sources.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 31, 2004 There's many Good Race matches to be had...but can anyone name a good JYD match?
JHawk 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 There's many Good Race matches to be had...but can anyone name a good JYD match? Um... JYD/Slaughter vs. Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff from the Spectrum (October 1984). Granted, that was from Slaughter playing face-in-peril for 12-15 minutes, but it counts. spman 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Race s JYD isn't the WM III match, it's from SNME in
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 31, 2004 That doesn't make it any better. Seriously...It's not fair that JYD shitty matche history fucks Race here...He is a SEVEN TIME World Champion (Only five people have equaled or passed that...Flair, Hogan, Rock, Triple H, Austin...)That's PRETTY good fucking company right there... spman 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Well, it's slim pickings as far as Race's WWF run goes, I dodn't remebmer him really having ANY decent matches, although he did some decent stuff with Hogan. They should ahve included the JYD vs Kamala match where they spend the first five minutes barking at each other.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 31, 2004 It didn't have to be WWE match. They acknowledged him as 7 time NWA World Champion...SHOW one of those title wins/defenses. They haven't had any problems showing NWA matches recently (flair dvd and Bloodbath)...I'm sure a NWA match could have been used here.

Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted June 1, 2004 WOW, I am actually shocked at the reaction that this is getting here. I actually got it early as I ordered it from Highspots and watched it over the weekend. I thought it rocked, but it was simply the nostalgia of it all. The matches are nothing to shake a stick at but it's always decent(at least for me) to see DVD transfers of old matches. Also, with Patterson/Slaughter I really wanted the DVD. The ceremony itself is a good 3 hours watch, and there is some cool stories and banter. But if you really could careless about the matches, or dislike many of the inductees.....by all means stay away from it.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 If I had the gas money today to drive out to Roanoke (the closest Best Buy) and use my hard-earned store credit, I wouldn't be posting right now - I'd be watching the DVD. Superstar beating Bruno for the title Valentine vs. Santana Slaughter vs. Patterson in the alley fight Yes, please.
Guest AdamF Report post Posted June 1, 2004 If you're an old school fan, it's totally worth it. If you started watchng WWF/E in 1995, you're probably not going to think much of it at all.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted June 1, 2004 They really should've used Race/Hogan for this instead of JYD/Race but I guess they were going for HOF vs. HOF matches. So can't really do much as JYD's work sucked after he left Mid-South.
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I'm enjoying this Hall Of Fame DVD set MUCH MUCH more than I enjoyed the 5 hour borefest that was WrestleMania 20. Anyone that loves the history of WWE and want to see some great matches (in DVD quality to boot) I highly recommend you get this DVD set ASAP!! The Hall of Fame induction speaches are very touching and Bobby Heenan was in classic form. HIGHLY recommend to check this out!! I hope WWE puts out more of the classic footage like they did with this set.
