And1, Street Ball and the NBA

Recommended Posts

The street ballers don't know how to hide their blatant traveling calls.

They've also never been on the receiving end of a Ben Wallace elbow or run face first into a brick wall named Shaq.

I was the championship goalie in my 10th grade gym class for soccer, where do I sign up for Manchester United?

You seriously think that NO ONE has ever thrown a vicious elbow in a streetball game? Keep in mind, a lot of these guys play for hours every day, especially during the summer. For that, they probably take MORE elbows in three months than NBA players do in an entire season. Also, NBA players get easier foul calls. You have to kill someone in streetball to get a foul.

And that's even if they bother calling a foul at all.

That's something about streetball that makes it more fun to watch than NBA is the lack of foul bullshit.

Nba players ARE streetball players. Where in the hell do you think they learned to play? But bottomline, they were BETTER than everyone else.

Isaiah Thomas, mark Jackson, Jamal Tinsley, Glenn Rice, Ron Artest...all these guys automatically pop to mind when you talk about streetballers that made the jump. They were just better than the rest of the streetball players.

At the same time I don't think most of you have ever really seen one of thsoe games, because they have the "tricks" part and they actually play a real game. They can play D. They can play the team game. There are a lot of consistant shooters. Its just that the NBA players are better at it. They are very good players, just no the best, or don't appear to be the best. The NBA goes for guys they think has the possiblity to be the best.

But what about the white guys, huh smarty pants?...

Are you suggesting that white people have full court gyms in their homes?

Why for just because they are white they have to be rich?

?????

There are still stories of people watching Glenn not miss a three point shot for DAYS on end when playing on the courts.

I think he is actually from Michigan...somewhere around there.

People also have to remember, all those little ball tricks that And 1 players can do, most NBA players can do them too. they are just to busy trying to win the game.

In addition to being for the most part better than the streetballers (there are some streetballers who are better than NBA players), NBA players also, 1) handled their shit in the classroom, 2) went through the system "the right way" [HS, college, draft], and 3) had a strong support system making sure they did things the right way. A lot of streetballers who could have made it didn't because somewhere along the way, they fell off the course.

Ripper, how old is Stacy Dash now? 35? 40? Yet she can still play high school roles....

Stacy is 38 or 37...one of the two. I know she was born in 1966...just not sure what month.

Glenn Rice is from Flint, Michigan and went to i believe Flint Northwestern. Yes the stories of his amazing shooting are true. I saw him play in summer ball against my uncle ( who scored fucking 14 against a future NBA all-star), in college ( again against my uncle) and if you ask anyone with basketball knowledge about some of the better pickup players out of Michigan, Glenn Rice would be on the list

Hey I'm taking a basketball class at OU next semester. Maybe Kelvin Sampson will be there and see my mad street balling skillz and be like "Hey this guys to good for my team! I'd better contact an NBA scout!"

And then I'll be rookie of the year and 10-Time League MVP.

There's this kid at my school who is 7' 1" and very coordinated on the basketball court. Do you know what this means? He's practically guaranteed a spot in the NBA. Seven footers and big bodies are in demand, regardless of skill, especially when Shaq, Duncan or Yao are in town.

Of course there's elbows and agressive play. The difference is street ball doesn't have players the size of a Shaq, or Ben Wallace.

Well like some others have said already, the reason why AND 1 and some Streetballers don't make it:

1. Size, Streetballers usually have to play multiple positions sometimes because every team is smaller, like myself for example I might be tallest player on one team and I might be the smallest on the next team.

2.Lacking Fundememtals, certain guys have good skills in one area and then have a weakness in another area.

3. Either they fucked up in school and not doing what they're supposed in classroom or they went to a small school in D2 or D3.

4. Moves are illegal, and The NBA does harbor bad feelings about streetballers IMO.

But there's alot of streetballers in the league (Marbury, AI, Tinsley, Skip Alston, Jason Williams) Streetball element are in some of their games. Lets reverse it, some NBA players can't play streetball because their game is not suited for it, especially with post players. I remember Vince Carter got torched by Future.

True, but there's alot of physical play in streetball regardless. AI has typical streetballer size and he takes a pounding every game, what difference does it make? Plus in Streetball, the fact that there's no ref calling fouls. The fouls calling is up to the player.

most likely because they  = can't play D, can't pass outside of flashy, no-look bullshit, and refuse to learn the fundamentals of the game.

Doesn't explain why they're not in the NBA. :)
