Jim Mecir is up in the bullpen...um is this supposed to make me feel better?

Damn just let Duchscherer have a shot already.

I actually think the A's should trade Zito for a bat or quality bullpen arm, then move Dooshie into the rotation.

Red Sox are in dire need of another quality starter with D-Lowe turning to shit. Daubach's error didn't help Arroyo out at all tonight but Francona left him in too long, and most likely did so(as always) because the bullpen was over used the previous day cleaning up Derek LoweMentality's mess. Our offense and bench will be absolutely fine in 2 weeks when Nomar, Trot, and Burks are all back from injuries. However we still need another quality starter. The Boston media has been saying there have been talks about grabbing Freddy Garcia...if that's true then they need to do it now.

Duchscherer has pretty much cruised through three innings of relief as the game is in the 12th. Really what did they have to lose by giving him a shot to close it tonight? They simply have had no one near as reliable as him this year and I know the A's don't believe in that "closer mentality" bullshit. A good long reliever is a pretty much a luxury anyways so no reason to just keep him in that role with such a glaring need at closer.

Edit: Bobby Kielty walk-off homerun ends it, A's win 6-4.

Good News young Mauer could be activated has early as Wednesday.

He's only 21, and has had 4 career major league AB, and yet his return could seriously change things around for the team.

The A's closer problems maybe have just cost them their season last night.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Eric Chavez had his head down, clearly disappointed. When he raised his right arm it was easy to understand why.

``It's broken,'' the three-time Gold Glove third baseman said as he walked back into the Oakland Coliseum with his right arm in a thick bandage covered by a black brace.

Chavez left the Athletics 6-4, 12-inning win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night in the 11th after getting hit near his wrist by a pitch from Damaso Marte. He was returning to the stadium after getting X-rays at a hospital.

It was uncertain how long Chavez will be sidelined.

``We just hope for the best,'' A's manager Ken Macha said before Chavez returned. ``We're looking at all the things that could happen both short-term and long-term.''

Macha spent nearly 30 minutes with A's trainer Larry Davis and several members of the A's front office. General manager Billy Beane was on the phone.

Official word of the A's season going down the shitter will come later today.

Edit: Chavez says he's out at least three weeks.

Alright, I guess I see what you guys are saying about Farnsworth's pitch, but when I saw the replay, it definitely looked to me like Lee's foot was down, and I mean that, all homerism aside.

And I guess what's most frustrating about Corey Patterson is how good he was last year, until he got injured, and I suppose I was expecting that same greatness again this year.

Oh, and here's a little C-Pat quote from Suntimes.com, regarding last night's incidents of failure...

''One thing about myself, I'm never going to apologize for being aggressive,'' Patterson said. ''Yeah, I went out of the zone. I know I can do better, but I'm never going to apologize for being aggressive. I'd rather swing at a ball in the dirt or outside the zone than take one down the middle.

Wouldn't common sense dictate to swing at a ball down the middle and take a ball in the dirt?

''I didn't change nothing in my last at-bat from my first three at-bats and I got a base hit. It's not like I'm hitting .180 or .150. I'm just a couple big games away from turning things around. Should I be playing better? Absolutely. Every pitch is a learning experience.''

Who knew hitting .250 was so great? Some fast research on my part turns up that he actually is hitting .147 with runners in scoring position. And contrast that to Lee, who is also playing below expectations and also had a chance to drive in runs with the bases loaded:

''All I got to do is hit a fly ball to the outfield and I couldn't,'' Lee said. ''I'm just not getting the job done right now. I don't know what the reason is. Maybe I am pressing. I'm not playing the way I should. I've got to do a better job.''

Now Patterson, compared to Lee, just sounds like a dick.

Wrist injuries usually keep someone out longer than expected, and when they come back they aren't the same player.

It's also another All-Star caliber or marquee player who's been injured for a significant amotnt of time.

Actually, if you compare Patterson's numbers to last year, he's been pretty similar this year. His batting average is down (.298 to .262), his slugging is down (.511 to .422), and his RBI rate is down, but his OBP is about the same and he still isn't walking enough while still striking out way too much.

Dontrelle Willis has a perfect game going through 5 innings. He's only thrown 59 pitches too so his pitch count shouldn't be a factor if he gets close. I predict it to be broken up in the 7th though.

I'm just hoping that if it gets to the 8th - 9th that ESPN cuts to it, especially since they already have a baseball game on.

Through 6 now, btw.

Way to cheer me up Vern! ;)

Good lord with all the Angels injuries and now this maybe it's not so crazy to think the Rangers can hang around.

Man, the Marlins need an entire new bullpen. Someone different blows the game every night. When your starter gives up 1 run in 8 innings and throws 6 and 2/3 perfect innings, you need to maybe come in and do your job for once. So damn frustrating.

Hopefully the Phillies continue to lose as well so it's still a 2 game advantage.

Sounds like Corey Patterson hasn't read Moneyball. Note how his philosophy contradicts Scott Hatteberg, and note how the 34 year old ex-catcher outhits the hot 24 year old prospect.

Patterson shows his youth with those comments and Lee shows his experience with his. I've been a big defender of Patterson, but if he can't learn to hit some of these ball outside of the zone or lay off completely, then he deserves to be booed.

There is NO stopping Sean Casey.

AT ALL.

He was booed all day today, and went 0-4.

And rightfully so. He's yet to really prove that he deserves a spot in the starting lineup. Aggressive or not, it's no excuse to pop out on the first or second pitch as often as he does.
