Your Favorite ECW moments

Recommended Posts

Guest Trivia247

since ECW was always Audience friendly and did alot of interesting things in and out of the ring to get the crowd going. what moments do you remember from ECW that stuck out in your head?

mine...

Steve Austin debuting in the ECW during a promo as Stevester... Even Johnny Grudge got into his Promo before Steve took off his shirt and says "im not doing this shit!"

in 1994 During a Jimmy Snuka vs Tommy Dreamer match, Snuka stalled for long minutes by jawing with some kid at in the arena. So Dreamer went out to the stands and actually SAT with the Kid in the front row. then took his hat and wore it in the ring while he wrestled Snuka

at I believe ECW heatwave 95 Mikey whipwreck joining Public enemy vs Sandman Scorpio & New Jack in a Cage match. Mikey came out dressed like PE with a fake hoodrat dreds and picked the ref's pocket.

During ECW three way Dance. When Rick Steiner came out to make the save for Taz from Benoit & Malenko. the Crowd went crazy for Rick...and even went into a Fuck Sabu chant. It was so surreal since Rick and Taz couldn't lead the cheer since Sabu was in Taz's team but was gone and the crowd was basically chanting it in cheer for them like as if "Fuck Sabu Taz you got Rick fucking Steiner!"

I forget which 96 Event but Stevie Richards came out as Baron Von Stevie clutching his wrist with his hand in the dreaded Iron Claw position.. During a interview with Joey, Stevie tried to Iron Claw Joey, and Joey No sold and shoved him away funny as hell.

Chris Benoit's Promo at the end of the ECW Double tables tape on Taz and Sabu. when he just sits in the dark talks about Breaking Sabu's neck and such.

At Enter Sandman 95 when Axl was doing the Interview with Joey before his Match with Ian they talked about how Florida picked up ECW but they didn't want to show the Axl Ian matches the crowd started chanting Fuck Florida. Axl then lead the chants asking if they like hardcore, if they like barbwire.... and at the end in a softer voice he asked.... "Do you want to see it one more fucking time?"

And The crowded cheered and out comes Ian to start the match.

Mick Foley's farewell from his match with Whipwreck to the very touching classy speech and the hug of the ECW downsyndrome fan to even his antics with Stevie and Blue Meanie Dancing to "New York, New York"

I know it wasnt a REAL ECW moment but when RVD & Tommy Dreamer debuted in the WWE standing along side other ECW Stars during the Invasion where Paul Heyman says this Invasion just got extreme.

Unfortunally ECW joined WCW later that night and pretty much fucked over that moment, but hey it finally got people intrested in the Invasion angle, after a lackluster start.

The cage match was Gangstas Paradise 95...with that being said I'm pretty much a mark for any angle with Mikey.

The Dudley's random backstage attacks at Hardcore Heaven 99...very pointlss

Mike Awesome putting the title around Masato Tanaka's waist after one of ECW's best matches, then Awesomebombing him through a table.

Mike Awesome busting the jaw of Spike Dudley's girlfriend with a STIFF lariat. She looked totally messed up.

Raven returning to win the belts with Tommy Dreamer.

The debut of the Vanterminator.

During a match between Tommy and...I think Raven back in 95, they're fighting in the crowd and suddenly, Styles says something like "Tommy's hit Raven with everything but the kitchen sink." Suddenly, Tommy walks out of camera shot, comes back with an actual sink and hits Raven with it. Probably not as funny now, since it's been done in WWF and all, but it had me in tears.

Damn near anything involving Austin was cool too. I remember him doing a bunch of skits dressed up like Eric Bischoff that were pretty funny. He said something like:

Austin/Bischoff: (half asleep) WCW Monday Nyquil: Where the Big Boys play with themselves!

Someone off camera: It's where the Big Boys play with each other you moron!

Austin: (suddenly wakes up) WHAT?! Who said that! I'll call my secretary, who'll call her secretary, who'll call you and leave a message on your answering machine that you're fired!

The Wrestlepalooza 97 stuff with Jerry Lawler, Sabu and RVD was probably my all-time favorite moment though. That seemed so surreal when it went down.

yeah, i loved those skits...the story was that Gertner was getting paid off for the Dudleys to attack certain people...my favorite exchange:

Bubba: "Who's next on the list?"

D-Von: (reads list) "Oh, your not gonna believe this man...the next guy is 'Jack Victory'.

Bubba: "What?! But Jack is our boy! He's been with us since the beginning...I LIKE him!"

D-Von: "I know, man...me too"

Bubba: "What's Gertner thinking?"

(D-Von opens an envelope, counts money, gets weird look on his face)

Bubba: "What's wrong?"

D-Von: "Bubba...there's 5 grand here..."

Bubba: (looks at money) "Oh my god..." (looks at camera) "...Jack Victory is a dead man..."

priceless. now THOSE are the Dudleys I remember.

Yeah, that's the one line I have in mind when I think of that. Sadly that angle led completly nowhere. ECW had a ton of angles that started and went to nothing.

There are too many ECW moments for me to list really.

The "chair shot heard round the world" with Tommy Dreamer and Raven at Heat Wave 95.

Pretty much the entire hour of Wrestlepalooza 97 between the beginning of Raven-Dreamer and the end of Taz-Douglas. Heyman booking at its absolute finest.

Taz congratulating Dreamer after finally winning the ECW World Title in a match that only 1200 people have ever seen, which I still consider the worst move ECW ever made. You pushed Dreamer as the underdog who can't quite win the big one for six years, and when he finally wins the big one, we don't even get to see the fucking match? Not even on a commercial video?

I think the match you are talking about is on RF Video's ECW Year in Review 2000. I have the tape and remember seeing Tommy Dreamer winning the belt from Taz, then immediately losing it to Justin Credible.

That was toital crap. Dammit, Vince. You own the footage now, let us see the match. It's complete balls that only the people in the arena got to see it.

ECW didn't do any arena releases in 2000 and RipofF video didn't release it.

Just watched the video and it shows Taz hugging Tommy Dreamer, Tommy Dreamer gives a speech, then the locker room congratulates Tommy Dreamer, Raven enters the ring and hugs Tommy Dreamer, then Justin Credible attacks Tommy Dreamer and the match takes place.

I might as well mention Mind Games back in 96. That was fucking crazy. I walked into the Corestates Center that night, took one look around and saw Sandman, Tommy Dreamer and Paul Heyman staring me right in the face. I flipped when I saw them. Unfortunately though, I didn't get an autograph because I was too damn star struck. And of coure, the stuff that went down during the Savio/Bradshaw match was a big markout moment.

i know what you mean, man. once before a houseshow in my hometown (Rochester, NY), i was waiting in line to get in. there were two lines, one for people who had tickets, the other for people buying them there. well, here comes the Sandman, trailed by security, walking in between the lines, mumbling "I need beer, I need to get a case of beer", and my jaw dropped. it was so cool. he was fucking HUGE in person.

my favorite moment was also at a house show. it was after the main event, Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Tommy Dreamer. Bigelow won, and left the ring, but Tommy lingered there for a little while. he could not walk, at all. he literally crawled to the back. the crowd gave him a standing ovation, and started a "Tommy" chant. just so classy, you really had to be there. i get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Ok heres another moment

I had gotten an ECW tape which was nothing but Debut matches of nearly every ECW wrestler stretching back to I think either 92=93

One of the later ones was a fan cam of a house show at a highschool gym. was Credible & Lance I think vs...Jerry Lynn and.... Scott Hall.

When Scott Hall came out the whole Gym exploded. And its loud coming from a fan cam. I remember old highschool pep rallys and how loud they were. Hall just came out to a rush of cheers.

I think it was at Hostile City Showdown 96 - Bruise Brothers vs. Sandman & 2 Cold Scorpio . While most things that happened in ECW are disappointing in retrospect this is so cool to watch. Nothing rules more than the entrances of Scorp and Sandman when they sandwhich Missy Hiyatt.

The Pitbulls vs. Bad Breed feud

Almost everything involving JT Smith

My favorite moment was definently at Heat Wave 99' when the Dudley's were on the mic insulting the crowd he called a guy in the first row "a faggot with a hawaiin shirt" and saw an older lady and her daughter and told the older lady "i bet you taught your daughter how to suck dick" that was cutting edge the crowd was so hot thats classic Dudley material and im still mad that it didnt come out on "ECW:Best of The Dudley Boys"

The "November Rain" music videos they would air every year on the last TV show before the event. I went looking through tapes for some of them this afternoon, but it seems I only have the 1994 one (I used to have them all).

They were all filled with nothing BUT favourite moments.

I saw Dreamer defeat Tazz at the arena.

You didn't miss anything. The match was like a minute long. Tazz had Dreamer down in the "Tazz's head between Dreamer's legs as Tazz holds hands near Dreamer's thighs" for a pin attempt...and Dreamer pushed down Tazz's head, flipping Tazz forward (poorly, I remember) and then Dreamer got his SUNSET FLIP for the pin.

Tazz came out to his WWF theme (the first one). With smoke, orange lights, and a black towel.

He received a "welcome back!" chant at the arena.

Then Credible came out and tried to be Shane Douglas with his lame-ass recycled new heel-turning manager, boring look, boring styles, "brawlz" in the crowd and you know what, fuck ECW 2000.

Heatwave 98 was the first ECW show I ever saw.

Mike Awesome getting powerbombed over the top rope onto a table next to the ring by Tanaka and smacking right into concrete after the table broke was SICK!

And I marked out for Hakushi later on in the show. :D

Yeah, but there's some GREAT Buh-Buh insults on the Dudleyz DVD. The one I quite like is from the Madhouse of Extreme when Buh-Buh goes off on some fat guy and proclaims "You couldn't get laid in a whorehouse with a pocketfull of $50's, motherfucker!" Great stuff.

Brunzell's favourite ECW moments:

Taz's heel turn at November to Remember '95. He just fucking goes off on everyone, including Paul E's dad. I miss the days when Taz was a badass.

Benoit/Snow from Double Tables. Benoit stops in the middle of the shitkicking, looks up and yells "Is this (pointing at a dead Al) the best that the United States has to offer?"

And of course, the chairshot heard 'round the worl. Actually, the entire Raven/Dreamer feud was marvelous.

Novemmber 2 Remember 1996

Styles: "Fans, we've seen the likes of DEAN MALENKO! EDDIE GUERRERO! CHRIS BENOIT! CHRIS JERICHO! In that tradition of saying goodbye...here is...2 Cold Scorpio!"

"Whoop! There it is!" plays, as Scorpio makes his way down, and the smart crowd knows he's debuting for WWF tomorrow at Survivor Series. "Whooop! There he goes!" they chant.

Styles: "I mentioned them...Guerrero...Malenko...Jericho...Benoit, but none were as successful here as you. A Four-time TV champion! Tag Champions with The Sandman!"

::::YOU SOLD OUT~!::: chants erupt.

Scorpio: "I just got one thing to say...tonight I say goodbye and I ain't gonna miss one of you mother-fuckers!"

Smart fans cheer.

Scorpio claims he'll wrestle for both ECW and WWF. Styles says "you can't do that!"

Scorpio says tonight, he isn't supposed to say this, but he has to do a "job" and pass the torch to a new guy.

So he challenges the next guy that comes out to a "loser leaves for 15 days" match.

Devon Storm comes out, all nerd-like with his ridiculous outfit, crowd boo's heavily.

Scorpio: "Buwahahahahaha! I'm supposed to pass the torch to Devon? Ok, let's pass the torch to Devon."

-Scorpio defeats Devon in like 45 seconds.

JT Smith and Little Guido come out.

"Loser leaves ECW for...30 days!"

-Scorpio defeats Smith in 2 minutes.

Hack Myers comes out...

"Loser Leaves ECW for...60 days!"

- Myers gets beat in a few minutes.

Louie Spicolli comes out. Scorpio gets on the mic.

"Now I know everyone wants to know who my mystery partner at WWF (major boos!) Survivor Series is...my mystery partner is...LOUIE SPICOLLI!"

"Come on Louie, you love WWF! Let's go back to WWF!"

Louie shakes his head "No way!"

"Loser Leaves for 1 Year"...Spicolli driver sends Scorpio packing.

Good stuff.

It's the principle of the thing though. That was the moment the entire company had basically been built around for six years. Dreamer's that huge underdog that just can't quite win the big one, and when he finally gets the shot and wins the big one...we don't get to see anything before the celebration.

I know people who watched that episode of ECW on TNN just to see Dreamer win the title...and never watched again when they didn't get to see it.

See, IMO, Dreamer wasn't a main factor in the title scene, and was only being given the belt as a token of appreciation, not because he was gonna be a fixture in the ME scene.

It turned out that way, eventually. They needed a way to get a heel the belt. Having Awesome drop the belt to a name to pop the audience (Tazz) and then give it to Dreamer to help put over Credible was what they chose to do. it pissed on the belt and the company, and ECW never recovered.

There was one match between the Dudleys and Spike and a parter I can't really remember. The Dudleys would basically grab Spike and throw him into the crowd, and he'd bodysurf all the way back, and then they threw him again.

actually, i think Bam Bam Bigelow originated that with Spike...but i do remember the Dudleys doing it to him at least once.
